Wouldn't the spear LT gas system just be related to the barrel? So curious if there is much of a difference since sig manual still states the same valve settings for 556.
But I do run a ventum 762 with a spear lt 11.5 barrel kit on my virtus. After 300 rounds it still has the lube on it after range day amazingly clean. Look forward to your next video.

Such a solid observation, yes, the gas system is only related to the barrel, so you indeed have a spear LT gas system in your Virtus. The valve settings/directions might be the same, but something has been changed on the LT to manage the gas better. I'd guess spring weight, a gas hole or both.
      Thank you for the feedback!

DI is superior in every way to pistons but one (relatively).
The consumer market that doesn’t shoot, is attracted to pistons for 2 reasons; primarily: ak lore, and secondly - SOF adoption.
The reason particular units use them is - number 1: obendorf over engineers their product(longer life cycle shooting on dod dime without the need for armorers to swap gas tubes and rebuild BCGs every 10-20k), and obendorf’s barrel recipe is their secret sauce(longer life cycle without the need for armors to barrel swap every 20k). And 2: piston’s are marginally less dependent on maintainence, particularly lube (tertiarily gas rings). This is a non issue for 99% of Americans, who do not grab their rifle in the morning to go to work in 105 degree heat in a Sandy desert, where lubricant’s attractive properties force you to clean regularly(if not daily) a tool that wasn’t even used, thus taking a large chunk of time out of your life, which affects a paid operator’s ability to perform by removing half an hour of rest time/sleep from his routine.
TLDR: Gun enthusiasts do not benefits from a piston’s benefits because we not only live in the first world, but can spare a few minutes to maintain a DI.

Awesome break down on the gas settings! The 308 Mcx spear has an actual suppressed and unsuppressed setting, not the +/- like the 5.56. You think that is the same as adverse condition in the 556 and 300 b guns? Or it’s an actual suppressor setting.

Thank you for the feedback! And that's hard to say as I've only held one in the store and I didn't notice how the gas settings were marked. That said, since the settings are used differently from the 5.56 variant to the 300 BLK variant, it wouldn't surprise me if the 308 was also its own variant.

I have used my 9"'300blk gas valve in my 11.5" 556 barrel. It worked fine with my high back pressure SiCo SpecWar 556k. There is a small change in gas blow back and function was still normal. One huge advantage of the Piston system in general is that carbon isn't being super heated and deposited on the BCG. So cleaning and field lubing is easier to keep the gun running. The blow back still occurs down the barrel if a high back pressure can is used. My PWS also has blowback with the same cans and it's a long stroke piston. A flow through can will always be the answer if blow back is a problem on any gas operated platform. Also the charging handle is a huge blowback problem, and needs gasketing to solve that. I like the SiCo gdch handle the best. It works. Nice video, and much needed.

Speaking of much needed, thank you for all of that input. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate your feedback. Have a great weekend!
