I think my dad had the HALO 2 bundle version of the translucent green XBOX! the crystal one looks super cool, though. (also wouldn't mind having the Japanese Hello Kitty one, haha)
I had a friend in school who had one of those. We got to see how the vibration in the controller functioned because it is seethrough. I'd never even thought about it before then.
I found your channel a few years ago by looking for original Xbox content I really enjoyed your xbox videos i own a crystal a bell Canada blue and a halo edition xbox a original Xbox power arcade that I made a few years ago and I'm in the process of making a cocktail table power by a original Xbox the original Xbox is one of my favorite consoles thanks for the cool video Adam
im from northern ireland and i remember my dad taking me into xtra vision for my birthday or christmas and this xbox was sat behind the counter on a big pedestal. was amazed when i got it and my own little tv to play it on. still have it to this day although i dont think the controller wires held up :D
I have the PAL one, I think it's a really nice looking console, and considering it came out in 2004 I'm really surprised that it hasn't turned yellow yet.
Who knew the crystal Xbox of all consoles had so many international variants? I did manage to get a Canadian one for a fair price a few years ago, just without the controller. It became my 5th different Xbox variant. I have my original black one, the halo green, the crystal, the mtn dew one, and my most rare and expensive one is the green launch team edition. Not trying to self promote here either, but in Nov 2021 I featured my Xbox variants on my channel throughout that month as it was Xbox's 20 year anniversary, so I do have video proof of owning all those for anyone curious. As always thanks for another informative video Adam, and hope you have a good holiday season!
I bought and still have brand new box Halo edition when originally released. Many many years ago I also picked up the crystal variant and the Mountain Dew limited edition. It’s impressive seeing all these different full colors variants of such a massive sized console
It probably was made for the anniversary. There was also a crystal edition with 2 controllers in Europe. The OG Xbox was released March 14th 2002 in Europe.
Mine is also the crystal model. I got it in 2004 and I believe it cost like 140€. I modded it and upgraded the hard drive last year. I use Kaicolabs hdmi adapter and games that support 720p look really good. Love the original Xbox!
If I am not mistaken the hello kitty console was a promo with either Singtel or Starhub, I actually picked one up when i lived there, since Microsoft had a factory there, they have a few exclusive oddities including a bruteforce collectors edition game, which I rarely see around.
We got the crystal xbox here in Australia, I found one last year that also had a mod chip in it too but back in the day my bro had one he bought brand new.
Greetings from the UK. I have 2 crystal Xboxes & 1 joypad, both for around £40. One with the original packaging & in excellent condition can go for a lot more than one without it's box.
This might be just me, but I have only ever bought hardware just released in North America. Hardware released in other regions I am just oh ok. The only OG XBOX I have is the black color console. Did not even know XBOX had other color variants. Adam teaching us console history my favorite class.
I bought a crystal version here in Australia to use as as my Xbox Live connected Xbox after I modded my first one. When I met my wife years later she still had her own crystal Xbox too.
Original XBox was released in Europe in March 2002, so releasing the Crystal one in March 2004 definitely makes sense to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of the European release date of the Original Xbox. I assume the Crystal Xbox release focused on the European market and as Canada has strong ties with France, that is why it was released in Canada as well.
For a special edition it was pretty common in the european market. I picked up one crystal og xbox 3/4 years ago for like 20 euros (the shop owner also gave me two additional logitech wireless controller and a copy of crash nitro kart with it).
woah these went up in value!? Back in 2017 they were around $60cdn while all the black systems were like $20cdn. I ended up with 2 of them, still use them now. I paid $50cdn for one with 2 controllers from a retired guy and my old high school buddy called me up gave me his old crystal xb when he noticed i was into retro games. Very reliable and no clock capacitor to change. However, the 5 capacitors on the MB near the PS connector and below the bigheat sink tend to start bulging. I changed all 5 on both of mine for longevity 3/5 were bulging. Regardless take it apart, and check around the mobo. OG xbox for the most part is like an old car, relatively reliable but doing preventive maintenance and upgrades goes a long way
I quite like Hello Kitty for some reason, the ring binder I mentioned I was going to use for storing loose Hucards, is a Hello Kitty one, I have a Sanrio themed Razer keyboard, mouse and mouse mat, I have a complete, pink Hello Kitty Dreamcast, however, I will NOT be buying what is essentially a crystal Xbox with a Hello Kitty decal on it, ever. Congrats on finally finding a crystal Xbox and thanks for this video.
Adam if you had a choice which disgraced mascot would you save from extinction? Blinx the Time Sweeper or Bubsy Bobcat? I am only asking because I have nothing constructive to add to this edition of rare variants.
Still play my modded OG Xbox on the regular, mainly for outrun 2 and coinops retro arcade. Damn thing does a bunch of older consoles so well it’s kinda replaced my snes mini for older Nintendo stuff. I have a few with the 128mb ram mod and I have three versions of Outrun 2 - arcade, Xbox first release, and Coast 2 Coast. Kinda a fanatic I even have the iTunes soundtracks for it. Never got the hdmi mod but I’m fine with the monster component cables with a low lag converter box. I have a wireless adapter for 360 controllers. It has a firmware hack for using a chat pad with steel battalion, and yes I have a pristine full controller with pedals I bought my son. We never got around to multiplay with them though I could we have all the necessary hardware. One of these days.
Yeah, I"m from Canada and I've got one in storage. I'm currently in a small apartment and don't have the space for retro gaming, but I got it back in '05 probably and I hope to be able to move into a larger place in the future where I can set it up again and play my old games on it. It's unmodded, too. My brother modded his black X Box and I was seriously considering it, but I had a decent media computer at the time, so I didn't bother. I'll probably mod it eventually though, so I can try some ripped images of more rare games I can't find at my local retro games store.
I am in the uk I picked up the transparent green and the crystal for £20 for the pair about 6 years ago even including the controllers and a box for the crystal
Idk why but since I was a kid I just think see-through electronics are cool. And I think all the see-through iterations are pretty neat and something I'd love to own one day. So far I only have the OG Xbox Halo edition
i just picked up a crystal xbox today for $76 NZD, was looking at the underside and seen it has been opened before. when i get home i open it up and discover a Super Aladdin Live chip. just need some cables and controllers and see what treasures are within
I had one of those 2 years ago but sold it. I know it is not a popular opinion but in crystal like this, I personally think that it is one of the most attractive video game console design ever released.
I have to imagine back in the early 2000s some poor marketing director getting a call from the warehouse division telling them "oh no there's too many of the funny colored ones left over. What the hell do we do all these parts?" He puts his hand in his head for a moment, lets out a brief sigh, and then says "I guess we need to do another Halo edition."
I've got a couple of Crystal Xboxes, but one is non-working. I should open it up sometime. So much retro gaming stuff to do! I reckon the variant colours and styles were used to try making the console more attractive, because nobody was buying them - everyone into gaming already had a Dreamcast, PC or PS2, so it was a good way to encourage people to buy one - along with a decent bundled game. If Driver 3 had been a good game, then that bundle would have been a massive hit at the time, as the Crystal Xbox and the S controller were both new just at that point when it was coming along.
Have this one, kind of Frankensteined it together with a regular black Xbox. Looks pretty good actually. Do want to get the blue and smoked black one eventually.
