OG Xbox is still fun to play and revisit classic games like Fable, Conker, Halo etc. One of the best (if not the best for modders) console ever, still looks great on modern TVs with proper upscaling.
I got one in summer of 2004 and still have it today. While I can't confirm it, the 200,000 production number is exactly what I was told by a store employee at the time I purchased it. Huh, i didn't know that we got all the interesting variants of the Xbox in Canada. Usually its the other way around where the states gets all the cool stuff and we get the sloppy seconds. But yeah, i was originally like "a green Xbox isn't special i've seen it in the thrift store like 100 times". Thanks for pointing out the regional differences Adam, i never knew.
I'm in the UK & I have a PAL vanilla green console same as the one shown in 8:27. They released 5000 of them over here. Not sure if the 5000 units were only UK or Europe as well.
Same, but mine burst and lost it's HDD key at some point after a few years. It jammed when I was a kid and could never get the tray back open again until I tried repairing it as an adult, which is when I discovered the popped capacitor and dead HDD.
The European green xbox was also plain with nothing on it. We also got a 'crystal' one that was clear white. I had the green one. It had 2x green controllers with it. They did the crystal one first with 2 crystal controllers but it got re released with 1 crystal controller.
I had a Halo Green developer launch console with the text on the orb saying congratulations on the launch of Xbox 2001 and was signed by Bill Gates circa 2003, It was given to me by my brother's friend Ashley Hall who was the CEO of Warthog Games which became part of Tiger Telematics of Gizmondo fame. As for the console it blew up after 2 years as the power connector came loose from constantly moving it from from my house to friends houses. I didn't even realise how rare it was until a couple of years ago! :(
Growing up in Canada my whole life and owning the crystal OG Xbox myself I had no idea all those variants were exclusive to Canada. They’re all super common over here, I’ll see them in retro game stores and thrift shops all the time. I just assumed they existed in the US too… that kinda blew my mind a little 😂

When I was a dumb kid I sold my Xbox for a 360. Wanted to get one back, bought a used Halo Xbox from Gamestop. I actually hate that green, so I gutted all the innards and put it in a standard black Xbox case. Very Exciting story I know. If you fell asleep reading it, I fell asleep while typing this. In fact, I'm sleep typing right now. I have weird talents.
Wow Adam! Great story! I really enjoyed hearing it! So I actually own the Halo green special edition Xbox console too! It's one of three OG Xbox consoles I own. I found and bought mine years ago at a local yard sale. It came with both AC and AV cables (Microsoft brand), and the matching green color Halo wired controller. To tell you the truth I forget what I paid for it, but I'm really glad I own it and still have it today!
I can't explain how much it annoys me, that the large button on the front is the eject button and the small one is power. It should be the opposite! Great video btw.
Amazing timing. I literally just bought this console and it just arrived yesterday in the mail. I got it for both for the aesthetic difference from the normal black but also because I wanted one Xbox with stock firmware.
Evenually Adam's going to post a video talking about how one day, 12 years ago he was walking through the Sahara Desert after a sword fight with 3 clowns and found a pristine copy of Stadium Events in a sand dune, but he simply forgot about it until recently. I've never heard of him paying full price for anything except maybe some Shenmue pre-orders.
Life sorta got in the way of the hobby as of late but I’m still super happy with my modded OG Xbox consoles my son and I worked on together. I stopped at having 3tb custom drive images and I even ended up scoring a trusty modded 1ghz board that I haven’t put together. It has been tested works fine.

I remember my father buying this edition back upon it's original release just so we can have two Xboxes in the house. Good times, unfortunately the controller ended up getting wrecked and the console traded in once the 360 was released. One of my biggest gaming regrets so last year I decided to rectify that hunt one down on eBay. Ended up getting it along with a bunch of games bundled together, was soooo worth it. I remember going to a game store a few years ago and they were using the original Xbox as a door stop. It’s nice to see that at 20 years old people are finally starting to get a little nostalgic for it and it’s starting to have at least some value. That console will always be a bit special to me simply because I got it at like 13 years old and it was the first console I have ever owned. All the others we had growing up were always my older brothers. I sold my Xbox 12 years ago for like 20 bucks and I have regretted it ever since and have refused to get rid of any consoles since then. I still have my 360 s setting on my tv stand even though I don’t think it has been turned on since the Xbox one came out….I really need to get that and my Xbox one stored away.

But compared to today where Playstation releases a "special edition" version and they just slap a sticker or paint the plastic a little and change NOTHING ELSE, this appears like super cool. You got a great deal on that Xbox. I still have the Halo Limited Edition Original Xbox in the box. It's not new but it has everything in the box and is basically new.

Adam you are forgotten we got three versions of the og XBOX. We got the standard black one, Limited Edition clear green Halo and the Limited Edition Mountain Dew Xbox. The Limited Edition Mountain Dew Xbox was a limited edition variant of the Xbox created by Microsoft and Mountain Dew, it was given away in a competition ran by the two companies. If I remember correctly you had to go to a 7-11 here in the US, get a special labeled Mountain Dew and follow the instructions on the label on how to enter. So we got 3 limited edition XBOX consoles in the US. Yes I know you only counted the ones you can buy it retail. But I count that contest one cause the like other two contest ones were too limited.
I lived in a high rise apartment building for six years (2011 to 2017). In that time I would regularly find original Xboxes beside or in the garbage room. I amassed a large collection of perfectly working Xboxes. Nobody wanted them, I couldn't sell them, I couldn't even give them away.
My main og Xbox in my setup with all types of mods my latest addition has been the Ogx360 which allows you to use a ton of modern wireless controllers with your og Xbox.
The entire life of that particular Xbox console is sad tale of being forgotten and unwanted 😄. I bought a Xbox the week after Halo 2 came out and I remember considering this model (they were seemingly everywhere at that time) but opted for the regular black model as I felt the green behemoth might just be a bit of an eyesore.
The Same OG Crystal green edition withouth the logo is also in Europe, we also got the Crystal Clear, but not the beatiful Skull Smoke and the Kasumi Blu. Life is suffering.

Its also the 1.6 revision of the system , which means a couple of games (mostly Sega ones) , have issues in 480p if you mod the system (standard , unmodded PAL systems have 480p taken out in software)
As someone who regretting giving away their Xbox and has been looking for one ever since, this $25 for 2 Xbox’s story is brutally cathartic! There was just an assumption that they’d do full backwards compatibility and it just never materialized. Also it’s odd that the Halo Xbox is more valuable than the crystal xbox, you’d think the crystal would be higher demand.
They're not an exceedingly rare console, I've seen two here in Colorado Springs, but Halo was the first game I ever played and I grew up on the original Xbox so I just had to have one. Now it and Silent Hill are my two prized gaming possessions. It would be a dream to have the orange Halo Xbox 'cause it just looks so damn cool, but that's never happening. I'd really encourage people to check out the OG Xbox if they hadn't. To this day it has the cheapest library of games on the market (including the Wii) and everything looks and runs a lot better than the PS2, not to mention having more content oftentimes. If you get a proper setup the games still look gorgeous. And it's also one of if not the best console to mod if you're into that. It's an emulation juggernaut. At the end of the day, it'll probably be my favorite console of all-time (mostly because I think the library's slightly stronger than the 360). Thanks for the video, Adam.
My older brother modded our green Xbox so we’d download any game we wanted. We actually got Star Wars battlefront 2 almost 2 weeks before it was released.
There was a TV show called Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which on a side note is the only thing Terminator related after T2 I recommend watching. It has some (thankfully they didn't go crazy with it) alternate timelines in it based off of actions taken in the movies (the two movies because there are no others!) and the show. In one of them a guy hooks up multiple Xboxes together to make a super Xbox and it creates the program that becomes Skynet. So, in hindsight, it's probably a really good thing you and your buddy didn't make a super Xbox.
I have one. Clock cap removed before it started leaking. Also had to do a full board recap due to glitching video and cap bulging. Installed xecuter 2 mod chip and 2tb hard drive. I have a few that need dvd drives. Those Toshiba Samsung SDG-605 drives are trash. The eprom dies on them for no reason.

Halo is my favorite franchise and the OG Xbox is my favorite console, so as much as I'd LOVE to get one of these... I ain't paying over $200 for one. I already have 4 normal OG Xbox's so like... nah. I recently got a working Halo 3 Edition 360 for like $80 which was a steal, but man this one is just a whole different story now. Also knowing that it's just a Halo label slapped onto a green Xbox shell from the Debug Kit gets me feeling even more like it's not worth it. Idk
I have one of those, but unfortunately the disk drive does not work properly. Most of the time, it does not open unless its forced with a pin. I already cleaned and lubricated the belts and gears, but no improvement. Would taking it to a repair shop and opening (thus breaking the seal) would significantly reduce its value?
You can try, but it you want a cheap fix, try this. Leave a disc in there. Could be anything, CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, blank disc, even one of those clear plastic discs that come with CD-R/DVD-R/BD-R spindles. If that's in there when you turn on the console, the eject mechanism should work. Just make sure to put it back in each time you turn the console off.

I've decided If I'm ever buying an OG Xbox, I'm getting the mountain dew one. and modding the heck out of it, just because. Ok not just because, but because I want to have the ultimate console in the ultimate color variant, which for me it's the mountain dew one. I did this with my Blue Hello kitty dreamcast and I love that thing, it has every mod under the sun, except the DC HDMI, which I have the kit for, I'm just too chicken to try and make it happen. But soon I'll get it done, I just ordered the right tip for my soldering Iron, heck yeah.
I have one sitting in a closet... bought it used early in the 360's life. Don't remember what I payed, but being the cheap guy that I am, probably not much over a regular black console. I did end up getting the Halo 3 360 as well (when it launched).
Dang... id have kept the original console with that box and traded in the non boxed one. Then again the boxes dont have any system specific numbers on them like we see now. So matching SN# wasnt a thing back then. Ive made deals on empty boxes to make my systems more complete. So yeah... it can / does happen.

The green ones without the halo labeling were also released in Australia.

To this day it has the cheapest library of games on the market (including the Wii) and everything looks and runs a lot better than the PS2, not to mention having more content oftentimes. If you get a proper setup the games still look gorgeous. And it's also one of if not the best console to mod if you're into that. It's an emulation juggernaut. At the end of the day, it'll probably be my favorite console of all-time (mostly because I think the library's slightly stronger than the 360). Thanks for the video, Adam.

My older brother modded our green Xbox so we’d download any game we wanted. We actually got Star Wars battlefront 2 almost 2 weeks before it was released.

There was a TV show called Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which on a side note is the only thing Terminator related after T2 I recommend watching. It has some (thankfully they didn't go crazy with it) alternate timelines in it based off of actions taken in the movies (the two movies because there are no others!) and the show. In one of them a guy hooks up multiple Xboxes together to make a super Xbox and it creates the program that becomes Skynet. So, in hindsight, it's probably a really good thing you and your buddy didn't make a super Xbox.
A friend of mine had the crystal edition apparently it’s very rare and he sold it for a pretty penny or it could of been a orange xbox if I recall
The clear one is super common in Europe and Canada. The orange one, only one was ever made.

I have one. Clock cap removed before it started leaking. Also had to do a full board recap due to glitching video and cap bulging. Installed xecuter 2 mod chip and 2tb hard drive.
I have a few that need dvd drives. Those Toshiba Samsung SDG-605 drives are trash. The eprom dies on them for no reason.

Halo is my favorite franchise and the OG Xbox is my favorite console, so as much as I'd LOVE to get one of these... I ain't paying over $200 for one. I already have 4 normal OG Xbox's so like... nah. I recently got a working Halo 3 Edition 360 for like $80 which was a steal, but man this one is just a whole different story now. Also knowing that it's just a Halo label slapped onto a green Xbox shell from the Debug Kit gets me feeling even more like it's not worth it. Idk

I have one of those, but unfortunately the disk drive does not work properly. Most of the time, it does not open unless its forced with a pin. I already cleaned and lubricated the belts and gears, but no improvement. Would taking it to a repair shop and opening (thus breaking the seal) would significantly reduce its value?
You can try, but it you want a cheap fix, try this.
Leave a disc in there. Could be anything, CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, blank disc, even one of those clear plastic discs that come with CD-R/DVD-R/BD-R spindles. If that's in there when you turn on the console, the eject mechanism should work. Just make sure to put it back in each time you turn the console off.
had to laugh at 'dude, brah!' LOL! I remember seeing the devkit in another video, I can imagine they used the same color scheme for these HALO editions. I think my brother still has his? might have to find out.
The original Xbox green normal is prevalent in the uk. I had one. They are more common in the uk than the halo edition.

Don't take what people say about seriously, half the time they're not even insults. They don't need to be interested in well... first of all-A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER! I've decided If I'm ever buying an OG Xbox, I'm getting the mountain dew one. and modding the heck out of it, just because. Ok not just because, but because I want to have the ultimate console in the ultimate color variant, which for me it's the mountain dew one. I did this with my Blue Hello kitty dreamcast and I love that thing, it has every mod under the sun, except the DC HDMI, which I have the kit for, I'm just too chicken to try and make it happen. But soon I'll get it done, I just ordered the right tip for my soldering Iron, heck yeah.

I have one sitting in a closet... bought it used early in the 360's life. Don't remember what I payed, but being the cheap guy that I am, probably not much over a regular black console. I did end up getting the Halo 3 360 as well (when it launched).
Dang... id have kept the original console with that box and traded in the non boxed one. Then again the boxes dont have any system specific numbers on them like we see now. So matching SN# wasnt a thing back then.
Ive made deals on empty boxes to make my systems more complete. So yeah... it can / does happen.
