I am going to be that guy, uhm actually, even base Kiaser was more harsher in the Dub than the Sub, everyone in the Sub of GX was way nicer. Everyone else in the dub was kinda of dick, my perspective. As in in the Sub he was more respectful toward everyone even though he thought they where trash. Also, just pointing this tidbit in here, Asuka (Alexis) the dub version is a sassy girl trope. Where in the Sub she actually cared about people dying one instance in the dub when they are dueling against Camula from S1 and she says that Dr. Crowler was trash. She says she didn't want anyone else to get hurt in the Subbed.
Kaiser is basically one of the most beloved characters in GX. A lot of people think he should have stayed dead though, which I can't blame them for thinking.
It would be better if he died because they brought him back just to make fun of him...But he needed to best Yubel with limiter removal at the end and save Johan and then die like a hero...That is because everything is about Judai...Yugioh gx is bad because of Judai’s plot armor...Season 4 is literally only based on Judai and all other characters are ruined...If Kaiser dueled more that would steal Judai’s spotlight...Yubel>JudaiS4=Kaiser>Darkness>Fujiwara>Adrian
@@rokocvjetanovic Again; I can understand that perspective - although from a narrative point of view Ryo also had a lot of unfinished business before his 'death' (never finished his first duel with Johan, never had a rematch with Judai, etc). I think the best compromise would have been to indeed kill him off in a blaze of glory in GX, solidifying his character as a legend in that series, and have him reappear in Arc-V along with the other counterpart characters. Hell Kaiser would have been a perfect character for that show in my opinion - a ruthless duelist like him that only cares about victory? He would have been a tremendous powerhouse in Academia, maybe even something like a General above Edo in rank - not to mention he could use new cards in his archetype like Cyber Dragon Nova and Infinity (mirroring his use of the Ura/CyberDark cards in GX, in Arc-V he would strengthen his deck with cards from the other invaded Dimensions, etc). Hell Kaiser's presence alone would have given the Fusion Dimension the much needed sense intimidation and danger it entirely lacked in the actual show, especially with how pathetic Edo and Asuka ended up being. Although admittedly I'm biased because he's also one of my favorite characters; I just want to see more of him XD
He was only brought back to prop up Sho which is insulting to Kaiser. If you are going to bring back Kaiser he should be given a larger role and more development.

That is actually kinda the dub. In that, he really died chasing after the two goals of both helping everyone get jessie back and to go out of a bang. He has all that unfinished business and it is sad and... ;-; Seriously, him just being gone kinda made my teenager years even tho I only watched small parts of yugioh gx as a whole.
It occurs to me that being electrocuted is probably a recurring thing in Yugioh not necessarily because it's the writer's kink, but because it's a way to visibly and even seriously hurt the characters physically without inflicting visible wounds or injuries, so they can show people suffering without having to worry about censoring for blood/ gore etc.
Yeah, it is really prevelant in a lot of young teen media. If you want to see a real obsession with shocking watch pretty much any 2000's/early 2010's DC show. Every Bruce, Terry, & Grayson probably could power the matrix by themselves with all the electricity they have had forcefully inserted into their body.
Kaiser wasn't an asshole to his brother. Well, at least that wasn't his intention. He wanted Shou to understand what it means to respect his opponent, because Shou was the kind of player who talks shit about his opponent before pulling the win, and what's more, he did so in the name of his brother (by using his card). Shou never understood this, thinking the reasoning of his brother was a matter of dueling skills. In the early episodes, Shou even chooses not to wake up Judai so that he loses the chance to take his exam, only to have a better spot in the ranking for that test. Shou had the same mindset that Ryou would later develop as Hell Kaiser: seeing everything in terms of winning or losing. The only difference is that Shou was the one losing, and thus breaking all his self-steem.
Also during Kaisers duel against Camula (which confirmed vampires) he sacrificed himself and his key to save Sho. So even though he's presented as this very withdrawn and emotionless sort of character, in truth he does care for his younger brother so much so that he put his protection above himself and even the potential fate of the world
He also took a 4000 damage attack in a shadow game and BARELY FLINCHED! how powerful were those shock collars he used if they made him scream like that the first time he used them? No wonder he went crazy!

Hell Kaiser is one of my favorite yugioh characters The word kaiser literally means *emperor* in German and that would mean that his name means hell's emperor which is super cool.
Kaiser is his nickname given to him as he was Duel Academy's "king" being the top student and all. The manga goes a step farther and gives Atticus/Fubiki a king title too and call the two of the the Kings of Duel Academy.

So hell kaizer was forced to end his turn for his monster to come back with 16000 ATK , but he didn't say he ended his turn because he was busy summoning his 16000 ATK monster again 😂 ( and he was also sick so maybe he forgot ) , and we viewers didn't pay attention that he did end his turn because the moment was cool , and he got his life points lowered to 0 because of power bond's effect which trigger only during the end phase . A lot of people seem to believe that his heart failed him but as far as rulings go , he lost the duel which make sense because he was soooo worried that his heart will stop before he finish the duel .

And all of this was because they didn't know what cybernetic zone does ( and hell kaizer not saying "end turn" out loud didn't help either ) And to be honest , I was confused when i first saw this scene because i knew what cybernetic zone actually does before watching this episode . Not just me but every single person that knows the effect were probably confused .
Zane (I like calling him by the English name) was such a badass and I enjoyed every minute of it. Aster was freaking bananas, I was shocked when he popped up and beat the shit out of Jaden then jumped out of a plane like a boss for no reason 😂 I know THE CHAZZ is next!

I was so excited to see you made another GX video because I absolutely loved your previous one (thanks TH-cam algorithm) and it was what made me subscribe! Really love your writing and editing, you've convinced me to watch GX I just need to figure out if I want to watch the dub or sub first
I watched most of GX in the dub as a young child when it first aired and its still very nostalgic for me so forgive me if i sound biased. After rewatching both the dub and watching the sub for the first time these past 2 weeks: Sub first, mainly due to no censorship and in my view, better dialogue in some scenes. I also didn’t find Sho/Syrus as irritating. Dub definitely has a lot of great & funny moments (Chazz it up!, Schmaden Shmuki, the rice ball scene, The Crystal Beasts voices, the terrible British accent for Bastion etc) and shines in its own light but, season 4 was never dubbed into english for whatever reason and everyone in the dub feels a lot meaner than in the sub. If you watch the dub first then watch the un-dubbed season 4, it may feel a bit jarring and odd going into it. Also, don’t judge the series by its first season, there are some great moments in it both in the sub & dub but its very slow and the main plot doesn’t pick up until half way through it. Season 2 was a bit fucked given its main plot elements. Season 3 is where shit hits the fan, get your tissue box ready. Season 4 is only half the length of the other seasons but I felt it was a great send off. All seasons in both sub and dub can be found on Crunchyroll for easy viewing.
i always hear gx and its characters with the german dub since thats what i grew up with. the stupid jokes and gags grew on me. i listened to the english dub once. its kinda fun too. but i absolutely love and recommend the sub first! as far as i know, they never dubbed the last season of gx anyway
Dub if you want a more fun and cheesy time with seasons 1 and 2 as it's lot more entertaining that way but season 3 is more preferable with sub while season 4 only has sub, tho all the dubbed episodes are officially on TH-cam so those are more convenient to watch.
Sad but harsh truth. Bastion became a Simp ever since he dueled that Amazoness Hoe. He even stripped down bare balls ass naked in one ep... I fucking hated Konami & the writers for thwarting him off like that.
You know I always had the same impression, it's like Edo and Kaiser were super badass without intentionally being so and that made the show super appealing, the same with the exchange students from season 3
Personally, I think Zane should not have outright lost his deal with Jesse/Yubel. They should have done something similar to how Joey lost against Marik, where Zane is about to win BUT his heart gave out before he could attack, allowing Yubel to win not because she was better but because Zane physically could not continue. It just works better symbolically. Zane has finally remembered the joy he used to hold for dueling. He has cast aside the hate, the desire to win, and the savagery that overtook him. As such, the story should reward him by showing him to be superior to Yubel. Zane deserves to go out on top because he finally remembered what dueling is all about. That's the metaphysical way of saying that Zane is right and has regained his morality, but have him die anyway because of his heart giving out symbolizes how he still has a price to pay for his past sin. It works better for the plot too because Zane has always been this aspirational figure for Jaden. So when Jaden sees that Zane could have beaten Yubel, it should give him the motivation to face Yubel himself and pick up where Zane left off. Zane's heart given out just before he can declare victory just seem like the better move as it is both unexpected but carries symbolic weight.
I'd imagine that this is how they decided on who is going to be the master and who the servant: Edo: I'm sick of sleeping in the woods, let's go take that guys mansion Kaiser: OK. Edo: One of us should probably play the servant to avoid suspicion. Kaiser: Fine, you do it. Edo: But... Kaiser: Do I need to get the shock corals out? Edo: .... What can this humble servant do for you my liege?
I’m going to gush a little about Season 2 Edo/Aster Phoenix, since he is my favorite boi of GX :^) I love how Edo is literally unbeatable until after he defeats Judai, it establishes an air of “really though shit” and it happens to make Saio seem threatening as well, with it all apparently being predetermined. It’s only later we see this “perfection” start to break down, as Judai interferes with destiny more and more, Saio becomes much more interested in him and started to put his plan into motion, setting up the Society of Light, rising the suspicions of Edo. While he spends with the gang, he softens a little, even offering most of his medals to Kenzan just because he doesn’t need it. But when the hunt for the Ultimate D (hmm) starts again, he is desperate, and he becomes heartbroken when finding out that DD, his guardian, was the one who had Bloo-D all along, murdered his father and took custody of Edo because he wanted to know how the murder investigation was going. After beating DD and getting back Bloo-D, the strongest D-HERO his father designed, he goes to his childhood friend, Saio, to understand whatever the hell he is doing and why he closed off Edo. It’s in the fight against Saio we see the invincibility veil truly cast off, as he compares his best friend helping him in the hour that he needed the most with the monster currently threatening to destroy the world with a satellite laser. He chooses to bet the satellite key, a desperate action just so that Saio accepts the Duel, something even Judai, the carefree one, tells Edo not to do. Throughout the duel, the true soul of Saio goes to Edo’s body, helping him stand up and fight after he did the same to inspire this “good” side of Saio. When he loses to Arcana Force EX - The Light Ruler, the only thing he cares for at this moment is Saio’s “good” soul, even as he is being bleached white with The Light of Destruction. Yeah, it’s Yu-Gi-Oh!, yeah it’s not even the best story of this spinoff, everything is alright at the end and it is badly paced at times, but it is the reason I love Edo, even when his invincible air was slowly teared apart, he remained cool af, he truly fought only for his goal and for his best friend, and he *embodies* Impossible Victory, the best song of the series and one of the best in all of Yu-Gi-Oh!. All of this atop on the fact that he is really fun to watch interacting with anyone, really, since he duels in professional duels, a completely different world from Duel Academia. *also D HEROes are the best HEROes don’t @ me*
@Alexis Drohin I understand that Manjoume needs to be given his spotlight but beating Edo in just 2 episodes feels like a shortcut(same with Shou suddenly being acknowledged by Ryou to be better than him). Not to mention his win against Edo being short lived since he loses to Mr.T(also same with Shou). To me they should have Manjoume have a rematch with Amon and win against him since they already had a rivalry in season 3 and Amon is a really good duelist. It would give both him and Amon more depth. I think Edo and Ryou shouldn't be in season 4 at all if they gonna make them a stepping stone.
The first thing that popped into my head when I watched the scene where Edo and Hell Kaiser were role playing was that Kaiser went up to Phoenix like "Hey, wanna steal that mansion and pretend we're a master and servant living alone together in the middle of nowhere. I'll be your master." and Phoenix was just like "fuck yes."
(Possibly how Kaiser got Edo to be the Servant) Kaiser: Damnit, they're here. Alright, you know the plan. Edo: Yeah. You pretend to be my servant and I'll be ready with a sneak attack- Kaiser: Yeah, no. YOU'RE the servant. Edo: Screw you! YOU'RE the servant! Kaiser: You want ME to play YOUR servant? Edo: Yeah! Kaiser: With what I'm wearing right now? Edo: I don't follow. Kaiser: ... Edo: ... OH. Kaiser: Yeah. NOW GET TO IT!! Well what I think anyway. XD
not gonna lie after rewatching the series and seeing S2 E1 how he interacted with judai I think being the servant was his idea he did say all he wanted was to drink his tea
Aster/Edo Phoenix is my favorite. They should have done more with him, but after season 2, they shafted him. And Zane/Ryou, my second favorite, got it almost just as bad after 2.

Zane Truesdale and Aster Phoenix are two of my favorite characters in the Yu-Gi-Oh GX series. I'm just waiting for you to do a video on their father figure a.k.a. Seto Kaiba. By the way, I loved the video.
My favorite part of Phoenix is this whole theme of him being scared of not having actually grown since his father died and that the two people he treasured as mentors both used and manipulated him, just like very compelling stuff.
Guess thats why the Kaiser match up works? Like now he has a person whos not taking advantage of him and doesnt have this mentor dynamic who manipulates him, he just has this gay bdsm goth guy to hang with its fun.
@Andor. I was with you until your second paragraph. No offense, but I can't stand it when they are just turned into caricatures of themselves as "gay emo bdsm femboys" like fanfiction usually does to them. They made a good team in season three, but that felt more about survival, especially since Ryo/Zane was pretty cold towards Edo/Aster and didn't even really seem to care when he "died" in his duel against Amon/Adrian.

Honestly your GX analysis videos are really helping me in my re-write of the series. I'm only in Season 1 of the rewrite and I have made a few story altering changes while keeping some things the same. It's a little hard to keep track and make sure I actually honour these characters, but also making them believable for the roles I put them in.

Zane is the first character in the anime who used graveyard effects and acutally wanted cards in the gy to use with overload fusion and his power bond cybernetic fusion support combo I love the gy who is with me I love anime power wall and its animation in the anime
Edo is just my favourite character in this franchise. His story is great from someone who thinks he better than everyone which he then proves by beating the main character and the big rival (who Jaden never defeats) back to back. To by season 3 sacrificing himself for his friends something that he dismisses Jaden for having in season 2. Hes the perfect antihero and he achieves his goal of finding his fathers killer without the main character.
Yeah. I have always loved how he is more independent with not needing a "friendship group". And he never let his duel losses defeat himself. He had some character development, but imo Edo seemed like one of the more initially and overall mature characters in GX.
I love how he is basically batman XD , seriously, he has that sad backstory and is onsessed with vengence and is over the top and snarky, but it fits him domehow because he is fun.
Three years late to this, but I absolutely LOVED and still love Kaiser to this day. Man basically went through my entire life arc. Born a “gifted kid” in school and placed into the “gifted and talented” program in primary school. Constantly being told I should aspire to be the best and find a cure for cancer or some other crazy shit. Never actually learning how to tackle basic problems like, “how do I apply myself when something academically doesn’t come naturally to me?” that other kids are learning their whole lives. Like my wife who isn’t the smartest on the block and literally has dyslexia but has worked her ass off to overcome her shortcomings because that’s how she has always lived her life. She saw adversity and tackled it whereas I was told I was special and smart so if I ever ran into something that didn’t come naturally to me, I didn’t know what to do. I just thought i was a failure or not as smart or talented as these teachers had been telling me my whole life. I completely shattered and fell into a deep depression my senior year of high school because I wasn’t finding college level work to be free anymore. Kinda parallels the fall of Ryo into Hell Kaiser where he doesn’t handle losing well. He’s never faced adversity in the dueling academy, so he doesn’t know how to adapt and overcome this. Then he goes full emo for a bit and makes a massive return to form when he realizes his entire life is tenuous at best, and he wants to go out on his own terms with a blaze of glory instead of just resigning himself to a slow death. He finds the passion in something again and finds his way of winning AND I DUNNO MAN I HAVE ALWAYS PLAYED CYBER DRAGONS SINCE THEY CAME OUT. Every time a new card is released, I buy three copies of everything- good or bad. I love this man and his journey and his cards and he should have stayed dead :(
All these GX videos give me life. And a whole video from Edo and Ryo *chef’s kiss* Wall of text coming I think Ryo and Edo were such interesting characters, they probably got more development than most of the original cast. I adored Edo because he starts out as an antagonist, easily beating Judai and Ryo (who both went through existential crisis because of it) and he wasn’t even fazed. He was a rich boy, too busy in his pro duel agenda to even go to Duel Academy. But then as S2 progressed and his friendship with Judai developed, we get to know his tragic background regarding his dad and DD, and you can’t help but love him. The Dark Dimension arc just made him even more likeable, after him and Ryo find out Judai is the Supreme King, they get their hands dirty and start recruiting people and he is the only genius who questions if Brron wasn’t lying and Johan wasn’t really dead since no one saw him actually die (THANKS EDO). And we went from this arrogant lil shit who though he was too good for them all, to him lecturing Ryo on how he could not care about what happened to Judai and his friends in this dimension (since Ryo was just after the ultimate opponent) and sacrificing himself for Echo and his friends. With Ryo I just loved how they trolled us all into thinking he became evil when he didn’t. He just used ‘evil’ cards to win because he realized that’s what he wanted. But even in his victory obsessed mind, he cared about his friends. He kept Darkness at bay in the duel vs Fubuki, he dueled Johan in the first arc of S3 to bring everyone back. He saved Sho from that insect monster, recruited duelists from the concentration camps to stand against the Supreme King. He showed Judai he couldn’t possibly face Yubel without coming to terms with what he had done as the Supreme King and overcome his fear of Polymerization. And even when he had just said he didn’t care about what happened to anyone and just wanted to duel, he still tried to separate Yubel from Johan so he wouldn’t die (Yubel then said it wasn’t possible but we didn’t know that). In the end I think I am fond of these two not only because of their starting personalities being all high and mighty and badass and bitchy (looking at Edo), but because they also got developed in s3 and even sacrificed themselves to help others.
@@raina1848 I agree, like Ryo at least played a part in Sho finally surpassing him. But like how on Earth is it that the last we see of Edo is him being slapped in the face by Ojama Yellow. Like I get it, they both had previous seasons to shine more, but they were such beloved characters they could have been given some better treatment in S4.

I don't know how the heck Manjome just suddenly became invincible after doing so little for so long, but that duel was a joke. I wanted to see destiny end dragoon tear things up, not a silly ojama punch. And with all that stuff with Saio in season 4, they don't even mention Edo's name.

Kaiba was my favourite character in the original series. He was fucking hilarious and beautifully overtop. The blue eyes white dragon jet is sheer perfection.
8:57 Don't gloss over this scene. He told Judai a valuable lesson of never dueling for power, and never being obsessed with power. Hell Kaiser's demise came from that. It's a powerful message that few understand.
This is definitely the best video I've seen because I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR THE LONGEST TIME Edo is my all time most favourite Yugioh, GX and just character of all time (if you couldn't guess). I literally wrote an entire character essay on his character explaining his character development and how much he means to me. He is a little bitch, but he has a heart and in Season 3 he becomes Hell Kaisers emotional support boyfriend (don't @ me, they're dating, the servant/master rp proves it). This is such a great and entertaining video about my top 2 favourite GX characters. All Hail, Shmaden Shmuki.

Guys, interesting question. Do you think Sho surpassed kaiser? In s4, zane clearly mentions that sho surpassed him, when sho could control the cyberdarks and combine them with his deck and win against the Jinzo player. Many people seem to not agree that sho in s4 is actually better than zane. Im not sure either. The anime clearly states so, but just the fact its Cyrus...the weak guy we were all used to see..... makes this hard to accept, but we cant deny it, can we?
Promis Nwekenta Even as far back as season 1, Sho proves through his dueling that he’s better than he lets on. Though, season 2 is really where he gets to shine. He starts the season by defeating an apparently well-known obelisk blue student, and moving up to Ra yellow himself. I forget the order of the next couple of duels, but next he goes on to duel Kenzan and win (Kenzan chose not to use his trap which would’ve tied the game), we see him beat a random obelisk blue student at the beginning of the episode where he duels his brother as well. As for his losses that season, I think he only loses to Ryo and the Monarch tag team. However I’d argue in both duels he did great (even if he literally cheated in the tag duel). It’s understandable why people would think he hasn’t surpassed Ryo, and that’s because he had no focus in season 3 except being a damsel in distress early on, and then becoming Judai’s overseer or whatever. And they completely brushed over the fact that he moved up to obelisk blue. In conclusion, I find it believable that he surpassed Ryo, but only because I’m filling in the gaps the anime left because I THINK he had the potential, idk I’m doing a lot of guessing here. So to wrap up...TLDR; I think Sho surpassed his brother, because I don’t think he spent season 3 twiddling his thumbs doing nothing. Just because he wasn’t focused on doesn’t mean he wasn’t improving
Vehicroid I agree it’s possible he supassed Zane/Ryo. Story wise it makes a tone of sense, he starts out incredibly weak and unconfident and slowly climbs his way to Blue, (the only character in the series to do so) and is constantly said he’s on par with Chazz/Manjoume and Alexis/Asuka by season 4. Not to mention his deck becomes effectively Hell Kaiser deck but better. But the show rarely shows him do anything cool or note worth and a lot of growth is stated instead of shown which is why I think a lot of people don’t give a lot of credit.

I was gonna comment about Kaiser losing to the effect of power bond but I guess you already addressed that lol. In any case, another great video on gx and I'm super glad you covered Edo too since a lot of the fanbase doesn't give the guy the love he deserves. I especially enjoyed the fact you addressed the development Edo went through since a lot of people just gloss over that. Though I do think he also developed some in season 2 after losing to Judai in their 3rd duel and realizing that Judai is right and he probably shouldn't just be treating dueling as a tool for his revenge. Other than that I agree that Kaiser probably should have just died at the end of S3 for a multitude of reasons and I wish Edo got more screentime in S4 outside of just educating Manjoume on how to get gud.

I am going to be that guy, uhm actually, even base Kiaser was more harsher in the Dub than the Sub, everyone in the Sub of GX was way nicer. Everyone else in the dub was kinda of dick, my perspective. As in in the Sub he was more respectful toward everyone even though he thought they where trash. Also, just pointing this tidbit in here, Asuka (Alexis) the dub version is a sassy girl trope. Where in the Sub she actually cared about people dying one instance in the dub when they are dueling against Camula from S1 and she says that Dr. Crowler was trash. She says she didn't want anyone else to get hurt in the Subbed.

@@rokocvjetanovic Again; I can understand that perspective - although from a narrative point of view Ryo also had a lot of unfinished business before his 'death' (never finished his first duel with Johan, never had a rematch with Judai, etc). I think the best compromise would have been to indeed kill him off in a blaze of glory in GX, solidifying his character as a legend in that series, and have him reappear in Arc-V along with the other counterpart characters.
Hell Kaiser would have been a perfect character for that show in my opinion - a ruthless duelist like him that only cares about victory? He would have been a tremendous powerhouse in Academia, maybe even something like a General above Edo in rank - not to mention he could use new cards in his archetype like Cyber Dragon Nova and Infinity (mirroring his use of the Ura/CyberDark cards in GX, in Arc-V he would strengthen his deck with cards from the other invaded Dimensions, etc). Hell Kaiser's presence alone would have given the Fusion Dimension the much needed sense intimidation and danger it entirely lacked in the actual show, especially with how pathetic Edo and Asuka ended up being.

That is actually kinda the dub. In that, he really died chasing after the two goals of both helping everyone get jessie back and to go out of a bang. He has all that unfinished business and it is sad and... ;-; Seriously, him just being gone kinda made my teenager years even tho I only watched small parts of yugioh gx as a whole.
It occurs to me that being electrocuted is probably a recurring thing in Yugioh not necessarily because it's the writer's kink, but because it's a way to visibly and even seriously hurt the characters physically without inflicting visible wounds or injuries, so they can show people suffering without having to worry about censoring for blood/ gore etc.

Kaiser wasn't an asshole to his brother. Well, at least that wasn't his intention. He wanted Shou to understand what it means to respect his opponent, because Shou was the kind of player who talks shit about his opponent before pulling the win, and what's more, he did so in the name of his brother (by using his card). Shou never understood this, thinking the reasoning of his brother was a matter of dueling skills. In the early episodes, Shou even chooses not to wake up Judai so that he loses the chance to take his exam, only to have a better spot in the ranking for that test.
Shou had the same mindset that Ryou would later develop as Hell Kaiser: seeing everything in terms of winning or losing. The only difference is that Shou was the one losing, and thus breaking all his self-steem.

He also took a 4000 damage attack in a shadow game and BARELY FLINCHED! how powerful were those shock collars he used if they made him scream like that the first time he used them? No wonder he went crazy!

The word kaiser literally means *emperor* in German and that would mean that his name means hell's emperor which is super cool.
Kaiser is his nickname given to him as he was Duel Academy's "king" being the top student and all. The manga goes a step farther and gives Atticus/Fubiki a king title too and call the two of the the Kings of Duel Academy.
For some reason, the japanese just love german and english and they also love to mix them.

So hell kaizer was forced to end his turn for his monster to come back with 16000 ATK , but he didn't say he ended his turn because he was busy summoning his 16000 ATK monster again 😂 ( and he was also sick so maybe he forgot ) , and we viewers didn't pay attention that he did end his turn because the moment was cool , and he got his life points lowered to 0 because of power bond's effect which trigger only during the end phase .
A lot of people seem to believe that his heart failed him but as far as rulings go , he lost the duel which make sense because he was soooo worried that his heart will stop before he finish the duel .

I was so excited to see you made another GX video because I absolutely loved your previous one (thanks TH-cam algorithm) and it was what made me subscribe! Really love your writing and editing, you've convinced me to watch GX I just need to figure out if I want to watch the dub or sub first
Sub first.
I watched most of GX in the dub as a young child when it first aired and its still very nostalgic for me so forgive me if i sound biased.
After rewatching both the dub and watching the sub for the first time these past 2 weeks:
Sub first, mainly due to no censorship and in my view, better dialogue in some scenes. I also didn’t find Sho/Syrus as irritating.
Dub definitely has a lot of great & funny moments (Chazz it up!, Schmaden Shmuki, the rice ball scene, The Crystal Beasts voices, the terrible British accent for Bastion etc) and shines in its own light but, season 4 was never dubbed into english for whatever reason and everyone in the dub feels a lot meaner than in the sub. If you watch the dub first then watch the un-dubbed season 4, it may feel a bit jarring and odd going into it.
Also, don’t judge the series by its first season, there are some great moments in it both in the sub & dub but its very slow and the main plot doesn’t pick up until half way through it. Season 2 was a bit fucked given its main plot elements. Season 3 is where shit hits the fan, get your tissue box ready. Season 4 is only half the length of the other seasons but I felt it was a great send off.
All seasons in both sub and dub can be found on Crunchyroll for easy viewing.

i always hear gx and its characters with the german dub since thats what i grew up with. the stupid jokes and gags grew on me. i listened to the english dub once. its kinda fun too.

Dub if you want a more fun and cheesy time with seasons 1 and 2 as it's lot more entertaining that way but season 3 is more preferable with sub while season 4 only has sub, tho all the dubbed episodes are officially on TH-cam so those are more convenient to watch.

You know I always had the same impression, it's like Edo and Kaiser were super badass without intentionally being so and that made the show super appealing, the same with the exchange students from season 3
Personally, I think Zane should not have outright lost his deal with Jesse/Yubel. They should have done something similar to how Joey lost against Marik, where Zane is about to win BUT his heart gave out before he could attack, allowing Yubel to win not because she was better but because Zane physically could not continue.
It just works better symbolically. Zane has finally remembered the joy he used to hold for dueling. He has cast aside the hate, the desire to win, and the savagery that overtook him. As such, the story should reward him by showing him to be superior to Yubel. Zane deserves to go out on top because he finally remembered what dueling is all about. That's the metaphysical way of saying that Zane is right and has regained his morality, but have him die anyway because of his heart giving out symbolizes how he still has a price to pay for his past sin.
It works better for the plot too because Zane has always been this aspirational figure for Jaden. So when Jaden sees that Zane could have beaten Yubel, it should give him the motivation to face Yubel himself and pick up where Zane left off. Zane's heart given out just before he can declare victory just seem like the better move as it is both unexpected but carries symbolic weight.
I'd imagine that this is how they decided on who is going to be the master and who the servant:
Edo: I'm sick of sleeping in the woods, let's go take that guys mansion
Kaiser: OK.
Edo: One of us should probably play the servant to avoid suspicion.
Kaiser: Fine, you do it.
Edo: But...
Kaiser: Do I need to get the shock corals out?
Edo: .... What can this humble servant do for you my liege?

I’m going to gush a little about Season 2 Edo/Aster Phoenix, since he is my favorite boi of GX :^)
I love how Edo is literally unbeatable until after he defeats Judai, it establishes an air of “really though shit” and it happens to make Saio seem threatening as well, with it all apparently being predetermined. It’s only later we see this “perfection” start to break down, as Judai interferes with destiny more and more, Saio becomes much more interested in him and started to put his plan into motion, setting up the Society of Light, rising the suspicions of Edo.
While he spends with the gang, he softens a little, even offering most of his medals to Kenzan just because he doesn’t need it. But when the hunt for the Ultimate D (hmm) starts again, he is desperate, and he becomes heartbroken when finding out that DD, his guardian, was the one who had Bloo-D all along, murdered his father and took custody of Edo because he wanted to know how the murder investigation was going. After beating DD and getting back Bloo-D, the strongest D-HERO his father designed, he goes to his childhood friend, Saio, to understand whatever the hell he is doing and why he closed off Edo.
It’s in the fight against Saio we see the invincibility veil truly cast off, as he compares his best friend helping him in the hour that he needed the most with the monster currently threatening to destroy the world with a satellite laser. He chooses to bet the satellite key, a desperate action just so that Saio accepts the Duel, something even Judai, the carefree one, tells Edo not to do. Throughout the duel, the true soul of Saio goes to Edo’s body, helping him stand up and fight after he did the same to inspire this “good” side of Saio. When he loses to Arcana Force EX - The Light Ruler, the only thing he cares for at this moment is Saio’s “good” soul, even as he is being bleached white with The Light of Destruction.
Yeah, it’s Yu-Gi-Oh!, yeah it’s not even the best story of this spinoff, everything is alright at the end and it is badly paced at times, but it is the reason I love Edo, even when his invincible air was slowly teared apart, he remained cool af, he truly fought only for his goal and for his best friend, and he *embodies* Impossible Victory, the best song of the series and one of the best in all of Yu-Gi-Oh!. All of this atop on the fact that he is really fun to watch interacting with anyone, really, since he duels in professional duels, a completely different world from Duel Academia.

My main gripe is that Edo loses to Manjoume. They could have made it a draw and the GX world would still think highly of Manjoume for it.

@Alexis Drohin I understand that Manjoume needs to be given his spotlight but beating Edo in just 2 episodes feels like a shortcut(same with Shou suddenly being acknowledged by Ryou to be better than him). Not to mention his win against Edo being short lived since he loses to Mr.T(also same with Shou). To me they should have Manjoume have a rematch with Amon and win against him since they already had a rivalry in season 3 and Amon is a really good duelist. It would give both him and Amon more depth. I think Edo and Ryou shouldn't be in season 4 at all if they gonna make them a stepping stone.
The first thing that popped into my head when I watched the scene where Edo and Hell Kaiser were role playing was that Kaiser went up to Phoenix like "Hey, wanna steal that mansion and pretend we're a master and servant living alone together in the middle of nowhere. I'll be your master." and Phoenix was just like "fuck yes."

Zane Truesdale and Aster Phoenix are two of my favorite characters in the Yu-Gi-Oh GX series. I'm just waiting for you to do a video on their father figure a.k.a. Seto Kaiba. By the way, I loved the video.
My favorite part of Phoenix is this whole theme of him being scared of not having actually grown since his father died and that the two people he treasured as mentors both used and manipulated him, just like very compelling stuff.
Guess thats why the Kaiser match up works? Like now he has a person whos not taking advantage of him and doesnt have this mentor dynamic who manipulates him, he just has this gay bdsm goth guy to hang with its fun.

No offense, but I can't stand it when they are just turned into caricatures of themselves as "gay emo bdsm femboys" like fanfiction usually does to them. They made a good team in season three, but that felt more about survival, especially since Ryo/Zane was pretty cold towards Edo/Aster and didn't even really seem to care when he "died" in his duel against Amon/Adrian.

Honestly your GX analysis videos are really helping me in my re-write of the series. I'm only in Season 1 of the rewrite and I have made a few story altering changes while keeping some things the same. It's a little hard to keep track and make sure I actually honour these characters, but also making them believable for the roles I put them in.

Zane is the first character in the anime who used graveyard effects and acutally wanted cards in the gy to use with overload fusion and his power bond cybernetic fusion support combo I love the gy who is with me I love anime power wall and its animation in the anime

Edo is just my favourite character in this franchise. His story is great from someone who thinks he better than everyone which he then proves by beating the main character and the big rival (who Jaden never defeats) back to back. To by season 3 sacrificing himself for his friends something that he dismisses Jaden for having in season 2. Hes the perfect antihero and he achieves his goal of finding his fathers killer without the main character.
Yeah. I have always loved how he is more independent with not needing a "friendship group". And he never let his duel losses defeat himself. He had some character development, but imo Edo seemed like one of the more initially and overall mature characters in GX.
I love how he is basically batman XD , seriously, he has that sad backstory and is onsessed with vengence and is over the top and snarky, but it fits him domehow because he is fun.
Three years late to this, but I absolutely LOVED and still love Kaiser to this day.
Man basically went through my entire life arc. Born a “gifted kid” in school and placed into the “gifted and talented” program in primary school. Constantly being told I should aspire to be the best and find a cure for cancer or some other crazy shit. Never actually learning how to tackle basic problems like, “how do I apply myself when something academically doesn’t come naturally to me?” that other kids are learning their whole lives. Like my wife who isn’t the smartest on the block and literally has dyslexia but has worked her ass off to overcome her shortcomings because that’s how she has always lived her life. She saw adversity and tackled it whereas I was told I was special and smart so if I ever ran into something that didn’t come naturally to me, I didn’t know what to do. I just thought i was a failure or not as smart or talented as these teachers had been telling me my whole life.
I completely shattered and fell into a deep depression my senior year of high school because I wasn’t finding college level work to be free anymore.
Kinda parallels the fall of Ryo into Hell Kaiser where he doesn’t handle losing well. He’s never faced adversity in the dueling academy, so he doesn’t know how to adapt and overcome this. Then he goes full emo for a bit and makes a massive return to form when he realizes his entire life is tenuous at best, and he wants to go out on his own terms with a blaze of glory instead of just resigning himself to a slow death. He finds the passion in something again and finds his way of winning AND I DUNNO MAN I HAVE ALWAYS PLAYED CYBER DRAGONS SINCE THEY CAME OUT. Every time a new card is released, I buy three copies of everything- good or bad. I love this man and his journey and his cards and he should have stayed dead :(

I think Ryo and Edo were such interesting characters, they probably got more development than most of the original cast. I adored Edo because he starts out as an antagonist, easily beating Judai and Ryo (who both went through existential crisis because of it) and he wasn’t even fazed. He was a rich boy, too busy in his pro duel agenda to even go to Duel Academy. But then as S2 progressed and his friendship with Judai developed, we get to know his tragic background regarding his dad and DD, and you can’t help but love him.
The Dark Dimension arc just made him even more likeable, after him and Ryo find out Judai is the Supreme King, they get their hands dirty and start recruiting people and he is the only genius who questions if Brron wasn’t lying and Johan wasn’t really dead since no one saw him actually die (THANKS EDO). And we went from this arrogant lil shit who though he was too good for them all, to him lecturing Ryo on how he could not care about what happened to Judai and his friends in this dimension (since Ryo was just after the ultimate opponent) and sacrificing himself for Echo and his friends.
With Ryo I just loved how they trolled us all into thinking he became evil when he didn’t. He just used ‘evil’ cards to win because he realized that’s what he wanted. But even in his victory obsessed mind, he cared about his friends. He kept Darkness at bay in the duel vs Fubuki, he dueled Johan in the first arc of S3 to bring everyone back. He saved Sho from that insect monster, recruited duelists from the concentration camps to stand against the Supreme King. He showed Judai he couldn’t possibly face Yubel without coming to terms with what he had done as the Supreme King and overcome his fear of Polymerization. And even when he had just said he didn’t care about what happened to anyone and just wanted to duel, he still tried to separate Yubel from Johan so he wouldn’t die (Yubel then said it wasn’t possible but we didn’t know that).
In the end I think I am fond of these two not only because of their starting personalities being all high and mighty and badass and bitchy (looking at Edo), but because they also got developed in s3 and even sacrificed themselves to help others.
It was all very good until season 4 where they got treated as afterthoughts, especially Edo.
@@raina1848 I agree, like Ryo at least played a part in Sho finally surpassing him. But like how on Earth is it that the last we see of Edo is him being slapped in the face by Ojama Yellow. Like I get it, they both had previous seasons to shine more, but they were such beloved characters they could have been given some better treatment in S4.
@@XimenaSu1609 Apparently, we were supposed to like Manjome better than Edo. I always hated that loss. Edo was only in those two episodes of season 4 and not even the star of them. I don't know how the heck Manjome just suddenly became invincible after doing so little for so long, but that duel was a joke. I wanted to see destiny end dragoon tear things up, not a silly ojama punch. And with all that stuff with Saio in season 4, they don't even mention Edo's name.
Im so glad I got this channel recommended. Finally Im around my people of GX lovers. I enjoyed it as kid on the dub and rewatched the sub a few years ago it blew me away how good it is
Kaiba was my favourite character in the original series. He was fucking hilarious and beautifully overtop. The blue eyes white dragon jet is sheer perfection.
8:57 Don't gloss over this scene. He told Judai a valuable lesson of never dueling for power, and never being obsessed with power. Hell Kaiser's demise came from that.

Edo is my all time most favourite Yugioh, GX and just character of all time (if you couldn't guess). I literally wrote an entire character essay on his character explaining his character development and how much he means to me. He is a little bitch, but he has a heart and in Season 3 he becomes Hell Kaisers emotional support boyfriend (don't @ me, they're dating, the servant/master rp proves it).

Guys, interesting question. Do you think Sho surpassed kaiser? In s4, zane clearly mentions that sho surpassed him, when sho could control the cyberdarks and combine them with his deck and win against the Jinzo player. Many people seem to not agree that sho in s4 is actually better than zane. Im not sure either. The anime clearly states so, but just the fact its Cyrus...the weak guy we were all used to see..... makes this hard to accept, but we cant deny it, can we?
Promis Nwekenta Even as far back as season 1, Sho proves through his dueling that he’s better than he lets on. Though, season 2 is really where he gets to shine. He starts the season by defeating an apparently well-known obelisk blue student, and moving up to Ra yellow himself. I forget the order of the next couple of duels, but next he goes on to duel Kenzan and win (Kenzan chose not to use his trap which would’ve tied the game), we see him beat a random obelisk blue student at the beginning of the episode where he duels his brother as well. As for his losses that season, I think he only loses to Ryo and the Monarch tag team. However I’d argue in both duels he did great (even if he literally cheated in the tag duel). It’s understandable why people would think he hasn’t surpassed Ryo, and that’s because he had no focus in season 3 except being a damsel in distress early on, and then becoming Judai’s overseer or whatever. And they completely brushed over the fact that he moved up to obelisk blue. In conclusion, I find it believable that he surpassed Ryo, but only because I’m filling in the gaps the anime left because I THINK he had the potential, idk I’m doing a lot of guessing here. Anyways sorry for the paragraph and a half, If you can’t tell I kinda like Sho. So to wrap up...TLDR; I think Sho surpassed his brother, because I don’t think he spent season 3 twiddling his thumbs doing nothing. Just because he wasn’t focused on doesn’t mean he wasn’t improving
Vehicroid I agree it’s possible he supassed Zane/Ryo. Story wise it makes a tone of sense, he starts out incredibly weak and unconfident and slowly climbs his way to Blue, (the only character in the series to do so) and is constantly said he’s on par with Chazz/Manjoume and Alexis/Asuka by season 4. Not to mention his deck becomes effectively Hell Kaiser deck but better. But the show rarely shows him do anything cool or note worth and a lot of growth is stated instead of shown which is why I think a lot of people don’t give a lot of credit.

We the viewers have to imagine and fill in the gaps that sho surpassed kaiser and became a very strong duelist. the anime did a very poor job in visualizing. Im still unsure whenever he did it or not (surpassing zane). And certainly many people dont even think he is strong even if they watched s4. Oh well....

I was gonna comment about Kaiser losing to the effect of power bond but I guess you already addressed that lol. In any case, another great video on gx and I'm super glad you covered Edo too since a lot of the fanbase doesn't give the guy the love he deserves.
I especially enjoyed the fact you addressed the development Edo went through since a lot of people just gloss over that. Though I do think he also developed some in season 2 after losing to Judai in their 3rd duel and realizing that Judai is right and he probably shouldn't just be treating dueling as a tool for his revenge.
Other than that I agree that Kaiser probably should have just died at the end of S3 for a multitude of reasons and I wish Edo got more screentime in S4 outside of just educating Manjoume on how to get gud.
