Good video, Tifo. Now just need to update that old video of yours explaining De Gea and near post myth, which I thought was bs. It was clear for many years that De Gea was poor in protecting his near post. And by the way, I said this many times. De Gea loves making 'Hollywood' saves. There are many times he could have just saved by just standing and palm away the way. There were no need for spectacular dives - which made him look like he made incredible saves.
Deep down he always wanted his dream move to Madrid. Once Courtois went there, he knew it was never going to happen. Just happy chilling on those huge wages now
Why is it every English sport media outlet is trying to push a rhetoric to force de gea out? Honestly, when he leaves and we're stuck with sub-par goalies titles will read "why did mufc let de gea leave". Its a joke lol.
its whole basis is to make money. That immediately discards it as a blunder as it does nothing, absolutely nothing to improve football. yes it would make the competition competitive, but only in the short term. There won't be team struggling for survival, teams in poor form genuinely being punished, and there won't be another leicester. The teams would become complacent, lazy, but rich, and richer, until their richness turn them into Orwellian pigs, and the inherent quality of football that we love, i.e. showing your quality and determination on the pitch, and the hunger to win, eventually fades away, until we are left with billionaires plump, and football pallid
The timing of this video is weird because De Gea has had a solid season, people turning on him now because of Dean and their English bias is strange but expected. One keeper plays against top 6 teams and keeps the team afloat, the other keeps clean sheets playing domestic cups against considerably weaker teams but is praised more. Do a deep dive on Man United's terrible CB pairing because they are just as to blame as De Gea.
I mean they explain his decline very well in the video… not sure what you mean by the timing when they proved he has been far below average in comparison to other EPL keepers
Can still remember him being amazing against Spurs after they had just appointed Mourinho - believe it was their first loss under him. Rashford got one goal and then Spurs had the ball for the rest of the game - Kane had so many shots on target and it was like the old ddg was back
I still remember De Gea struggled in his early career against corner kicks. The guy can make good saves but at the same time he does not have a commanding presence in the box.
Not gonna wait h this video because although he was poor then he's returned to his best. He's underrated now but I guess that will always come when you aren't apart of a winning team.
It has been a hard time for all of us and especially for David. He has been such a outstanding player in the past, saving enormous games for MU. Let's not forget the credits that he made and keep supporting him!!
I dont care about his mistakes in the last 3 years, for me he will always be a club legend, he carried us for 5 years, if he wants to leave he can do whatever he wants, he will always be welcomed back and will always be a club legend and one of the best goalkeepers in our clubs history
Is that really the case though? For a team competing in multiple competitions like Manchester Utd, having goalkeepers that can play in different competitions is ideal to reduce fatigue. Also, if your No. 1 gets injured, you want a high quality replacement, given how integral shot stoppers are to a modern defence. Look at how Liverpool have struggled whenever Alison has been injured. Having two solid goalkeepers also places more pressure on the starting GK, with the idea being that his focus and motivation is increased.

As a United fan I'm not blind to the issues with DDG. He is still a very serviceable keeper. My issue with the De Gea situation is incompetence of United is on full display and they have disrespected a legend of the club in the process. Move him on if that was the priority dont move him on cuz of Arnold and Murtough's stupidity and inability to land a striker, centerback and CDM.
Further on my last point, comparison against Deano, Ederson, Mendy, Alisson, and Schmeichel this season: 2nd worst goals against per 90, with 3rd least shots on target against per 90 - the two below him both got the best and second best GA90 respectively; 2nd lowest save%, Dean Henderson got the best; second lowest wins per 90 - Deano is highest, highest draws per 90 - Deano is 2nd lowest, 0.12 more losses per 90 than Deano - who has the least losses per 90; tied lowest PSxG+/-, both in the negatives, the other was Eduoard Mendy; 2nd worst distribution stats (Deano is admittedly worst); only goalkeeper attempt no pressures on attackers in the box all season - Dean Henderson has second most attempted and the highest percentage of successful pressures; lowest percentage of crosses stopped, Dean Henderson is 2nd highest; lowest outside penalty area actions per 90, Dean is 2nd highest with 3 times as many as De Gea per 90; lowest average distance travelled for defensive action, Dean Henderson is 3rd highest. I can go back a season and find similar stats, probably even go back as far as 2 seasons ago At this point I can't believe anyone is defending De Gea any more, he was a brilliant servant to the club - but he's lost his edge and we can't keep overrating a player so much in such an important position just because he carried us for 5 years. It's time to move him on and give Deano and actual chance, based on his statistics for the past 2 seasons in the premier league, he deserves it.
It's just the United fans who can't accept De Gea isn't what he used to be and haven't realized that the first season Deano wasn't at Sheffield United they went from mid table with 4th least goals against to relegation with 4th most goals against who don't want Deano to be #1

Goalkeeping positioning is so often overlooked in football, the post shot xg doesn't take it into account and so it is very hard to quantify, but for example, Rashford's goal against Granada was extremely bad goalkeeping, but was barely commented on from what I saw, Rashford ran from the half way line and didn't have enough control to shoot until he reached the penalty spot. From watching De Gea, his positioning is very good and I think this is a hugely underrated attribute.
We Spaniards know the inside story of the decline of De Gea. As Tifo said, it starts in the World Cup, and it starts weeks before the tournament, with our Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, the idiocy personified, accusing De Gea and Atletic Bilbao's Iker Muniain, of being part of a prostitution ring. A claim, of course, debunked short afterwards. I'll try to restrain myself of writing what I think, because Spain's internet gestapo would fine me, but pause for a second and put yourself in De Gea shoe's. The press, those mercenaries paid by the politicians, tore him apart. Imagine what it was being overtly called rapist by the Prime Minister. Newspapers calling for him to be removed of the national squad, prime time shows with a circle of feminist saying he should be put in jail, his girlfriend harrased in the streets by the paparazzi, calls for her to be removed of her TV show (she was a judge on Spain's talent show), and so on. Of course a fucking politician wouldn't lose sleep with all that, but a professional athlete? One week Spain had the best goalkeeper in the world, and the next one we had a player that wasn't able to perform at all. His confidence never came back. The best goalkeeper in the world never came back. Today's De Gea has just got his first child, maybe he doesn't even has his mind on football. I hope it's not the case. I hope her daughter gives him the mental stability to recover and be great again. And if he doesn't , I'll support him just the same.
To think this fast have this video aged xD De Gea having a tremendous 21-22 season, meanwhile not anywhere close to what he was potentially thought to be, but having a 0.27 PSxG-GA per game in premier league and -0.26 in UCL(yeah it's bad but the team is not helping him at all)
i think it is down to his personality. most goalkeepers are outspoken, brave and manly. de gea has always been having a timid, quiet and introvert personality.
Nah bro, i know the truth is hard to take but he's been an inconsisten player since that Ronaldo hattrick.... 17/18 De Gea was one of the best gk of all team, but suddenly after that game against portugal everything changed.... made many fatal errors and barely made any world class save (except maybe the game against roma), and i don't remember the last time he saved a penalty. He's become mediocre.... i really hope he finds his prime back
He's been almost flawless this season. The roma 2nd leg showed us why he is still our best keeper and that it's too soon for henderson to become our number 1
I also think that his decline coincides with his goalkeeping coach at the time, around 2018, when De Gea signed a new contract. Since then, his goalkeeping hasn't been at par with what's expected of him

'Form is temporary, class is permanent'... I think this holds true for Dave.

I would love to see one about Kepa and Edou Mendy in this format
I dont care about his mistakes in the last 3 years, for me he will always be a club legend, he carried us for 5 years, if he wants to leave he can do whatever he wants, he will always be welcomed back and will always be a club legend and one of the best goalkeepers in our clubs history
Saw this after his incredible performance vs Roma
The real issue is having two good GKs in our ranks... There's no reason to have two GKs that could start
Except if one is injured the other can step up to the plate easily instead of gambling on someone that is questionable?

Are you having a laugh plastic fan??? De Gea is getting worse every season.
5:07 - 6:32 I'd be really interested to learn about other GK stances from another video if there is not one yet.
Further on my last point, comparison against Deano, Ederson, Mendy, Alisson, and Schmeichel this season:
2nd worst goals against per 90, with 3rd least shots on target against per 90 - the two below him both got the best and second best GA90 respectively; 2nd lowest save%, Dean Henderson got the best; second lowest wins per 90 - Deano is highest, highest draws per 90 - Deano is 2nd lowest, 0.12 more losses per 90 than Deano - who has the least losses per 90; tied lowest PSxG+/-, both in the negatives, the other was Eduoard Mendy; 2nd worst distribution stats (Deano is admittedly worst); only goalkeeper attempt no pressures on attackers in the box all season - Dean Henderson has second most attempted and the highest percentage of successful pressures; lowest percentage of crosses stopped, Dean Henderson is 2nd highest; lowest outside penalty area actions per 90, Dean is 2nd highest with 3 times as many as De Gea per 90; lowest average distance travelled for defensive action, Dean Henderson is 3rd highest.
I can go back a season and find similar stats, probably even go back as far as 2 seasons ago
At this point I can't believe anyone is defending De Gea any more, he was a brilliant servant to the club - but he's lost his edge and we can't keep overrating a player so much in such an important position just because he carried us for 5 years. It's time to move him on and give Deano and actual chance, based on his statistics for the past 2 seasons in the premier league, he deserves it.
Yup.

Thank you for this very interesting comment
