Not once did I hear the mother discipline her kid. That is exactly why he is the way he is. No accountability and these kids think they rule the world.
To be fair, she doesn't want her kid to be taken away, or arrested, I get it. I think in situations like this the parent will often defend the kid right away, and discipline later, her goal is to attempt to reverse the arrest, even if it isn't a plausible goal.

Classic "my child is an angel" situation. My mother's friends have all managed to screw that up. I was repeatedly bitten punched and spat on as a child because of parents like this. And when I fought back and got angry it was my fault.
This kid from New York City moved to my small town in Texas. He egged one of my friend's cars. I dropped by on a Saturday so his parents were home. I might have said some things that shouldnt have been said. BUT he didnt egg anymore cars AND everyone in school knew where he lived after. He was probably 16-17. I was 16-17. But shoot up a school? That is so whacko. I wouldnt have even waited after school for a teacher, you have crossed the line even thinking it as a joke.

The moment the mom said she did have a gun. I was like, motive, weapon, target. All we need is opportunity (the next school day), and we got murder bingo. I think the mom's overly emotional and the kid can't show any emotion without upsetting her. So he can't deal with his feelings.

If this video made me realize anything is that I have to have a real talk with my son. I need him to understand that even if this kid was joking that the threat is real and will be dealt with in a very real way. My son is a great kid. But it's my responsibility to guide him and make sure he knows that even though mistakes can be made that consequences are very real. I see this as a chance to teach an important lesson. Especially where time's are so different than when we were kids.

i'm a school bus driver, and these kids get on the bus then say and do the dumbest things thinking that i'm distracted with driving to the extent that i don't hear what they're doing. the language of my fifth and sixth graders is just appalling, when i hear them talk nasty i ask them if they talk that way around their parents. they'll say no, so i tell them not to talk that way around me. of course, we did the same thing at that age, too. you're right, we have a set of standards depending on who we're around.
I agree with your statement to an extent. I’d say it depends on how involved you were in their life before they were teenagers. Too little involvement or too much can absolutely lead to a parent not knowing what’s going on with their teen at all because either the teen thinks they don’t care anyway or the teen’s afraid of getting in trouble so they sneak around. This situation seems more like two strangers cohabiting instead of a parent and a child imo.

That exact thought went through my mind when she said that. Dylan Klebold's mom thought she knew her son well enough that even after he and Eric went on their murdering spree and then carried out their own murder/suicide pact she couldn't believe her son was capable of such horrific violence. How would the mother in this video react if her "little boy" was a victim of a school massacre and the shooter had made the same threats but was never arrested for them. She would be all up in the FBI's arses and demanding tougher laws against "little kids" who make terrorist threats. She needs to flip the script and look at this from a different perspective!
I think there must be a few more steps between making a comment online and actually going out and doing that horrendous act. So the mom is right that he should not be grouped with people who have actually done it. I was in special needs classes in elementary school. I was 9 and threatened to shoot my teachers and everybody at the school and I had the police called on me. I was terrified, I just had an outburt,, which i have grown out of for going on a decade. and I don't think I needed to go thru that.

When I was 17 in high school, my friends and I made a stupid prank phone call to a girl who had a reputation in high school and made some stupid, not so nice jokes. When my dad found out, he threw me in the car, drove me to this girls house and made me apologize to her in front of her parents. I was petrified and extremely embarrassed(as I should have been). It was well deserved and I learned my lesson after that about making jokes or comments. Thank you dad for doing some real parenting
That's great parenting right there. I've had similar mistakes in my past too and had my parents introduce me to the consequences of those actions. It really changes your world view and I now regret most of the things I've done and said :/ thankfully I was able to mend those broken relationships

But secondly these things should NOT be taken lightly. A responsible parent and teachers would have drilled into you to take what you post seriously, the delete button doesn't always save you. In particular the rate of gun violence in the US is also quite the meme, and it's similar to an engine. You can have millions of safety systems around a feature, but if the component is not there in the first place it won't go wrong. But understandably guns are kinda here to stay, so it's prudent we contain the risk, so that it remains safe to live in a gun society, even if it means arresting teens for being careless/callous with their words online. The US is a laughingsotck in many areas, thankfully not this time. I actually think the officers handled this so well and I’m glad they took it so seriously. If this video made me realize anything is that I have to have a real talk with my son. I need him to understand that even if this kid was joking that the threat is real and will be dealt with in a very real way. My son is a great kid. But it's my responsibility to guide him and make sure he knows that even though mistakes can be made that consequences are very real. I see this as a chance to teach an important lesson. Especially where time's are so different than when we were kids.

I agree with your statement to an extent. I’d say it depends on how involved you were in their life before they were teenagers. Too little involvement or too much can absolutely lead to a parent not knowing what’s going on with their teen at all because either the teen thinks they don’t care anyway or the teen’s afraid of getting in trouble so they sneak around. This situation seems more like two strangers cohabiting instead of a parent and a child imo.

Like his full name, where he'll shoot up, how many people he'll kill, where he'll get the weapon, exact model of weapon etc. Someone reported him to his local police and the police found out his parents do actually have that weapon so they took the detailed threat seriously as they should.

I'm from the Philippines, and I moved here to the US and I'm surprised by how soft Americans are and how crap the parents are here. Of course it's taken seriously, because all of the kids that have shot up schools have posted similar stuff to what he posted, or have talked about doing those things, they are the first red flags, it's the same when people comment on hurting themselves, for mental health professionals say such comments/posteting should never be taken as a joke, but should be see as a possible red flag!

How would the mother in this video react if her "little boy" was a victim of a school massacre and the shooter had made the same threats but was never arrested for them. I think there must be a few more steps between making a comment online and actually going out and doing that horrendous act. So the mom is right that he should not be grouped with people who have actually done it. I was in special needs classes in elementary school. I was 9 and threatened to shoot my teachers and everybody at the school and I had the police called on me. I was terrified, I just had an outburt,, which i have grown out of for going on a decade. and I don't think I needed to go thru that.

When I was 17 in high school, my friends and I made a stupid prank phone call to a girl who had a reputation in high school and made some stupid, not so nice jokes. When my dad found out, he threw me in the car, drove me to this girls house and made me apologize to her in front of her parents. I was petrified and extremely embarrassed(as I should have been). It was well deserved and I learned my lesson after that about making jokes or comments. Thank you dad for doing some real parenting

That's great parenting right there. I've had similar mistakes in my past too and had my parents introduce me to the consequences of those actions. It really changes your world view and I now regret most of the things I've done and said :/ thankfully I was able to mend those broken relationships

If we need to arrest these kids then so be it but we should do it while realizing that 99.9% of these kids won’t ever hurt anyone.
@@iamamish Maybe I do t understand the context, but imo it goes both ways. Firstly we have the admittedly excessive arrests in the US, it's a world meme tbh. But secondly these things should NOT be taken lightly. A responsible parent and teachers would have drilled into you to take what you post seriously, the delete button doesn't always save you. In particular the rate of gun violence in the US is also quite the meme, and it's similar to an engine. You can have millions of safety systems around a feature, but if the component is not there in the first place it won't go wrong. But understandably guns are kinda here to stay, so it's prudent we contain the risk, so that it remains safe to live in a gun society, even if it means arresting teens for being careless/callous with their words online. The US is a laughingsotck in many areas, thankfully not this time. Such an arrest won't leave a criminal record as far as I'm aware, it won't impact anyone long term, but it will teach the child to be serious before he goes round boasting about sussier stuff like ahem ahem orange man who somehow became president does. All of this discounting the obvious security threat in the event he goes forth with his plan.

He’s a 15-year-old. He is my age. In all of these mass school shooting, the majority age of the attackers/shooters has been 15-17. The police cannot take any risks. They handled it well. I love how quickly they shut the mom up at the end.
Edit: I know some people think that this is crazy because people on video games say stuff like this all the time. Before you share your opinion, look at the toll of school shooters that gave a warning to people before hand and they did nothing about it because they thought it was a joke.

I actually think the officers handled this so well and I’m glad they took it so seriously. I feel like a lot of the mass shootings begin with a comment or post online that goes unnoticed and then escalates to something much worse, so they should be tough on comments such as his as there is literally no guarantee he wouldn’t go through with it.

If that was my kid I’d be putting him in cuffs myself. That is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. The last time the state of Florida ingnored online threats as “he’s just a kid joking around” there WAS a school shooting, that’s why they now pick up kids for making threats
