I don't particularly blame Hussie, he wasn't planning on becoming a game developer. While there are plenty of fuck-ups on his part, he's not a game developer and has no experience in the field.
Second worst? What about Mighty Number Nine, or Yogventures? I do agree that more communication would be great, but I'd rather have something delayed but amazing (with supplemental material in the meantime, no less) than something that's a terrible rushed mess.
I thought Act 1 of Hiveswap was a bit lame. But of course, it's the beginning of the story, and it's not like Act 1 of Homestuck was the high point either. Does Hussie have something up his sleeve? Could Hiveswap hit those prime Homestuck levels? Maybe. I would very much like to judge Hiveswap as a complete package, but the fact they're having trouble getting Act 2 funded leaves me with doubt that this thing will ever get finished.
i mean other than the fact that it's missing that the reason the NYC studio got shut down is that one of the managers had a nuclear meltdown, smashed all of the servers , and deleted all the progress and then blamed hussie for everything. it's fine wine with a big chunk of sludge i guess.
Even when playing Mighty No 9, tends to be more frustrating when compared to the point-click adventure game and the Friendsim. They are still high up on reviews compared to MN9. Would say there were more faults from Mighty No 9 that are shown proof and evidence about the staff/creators abusing the money, while Hiveswap is either often by mistake, fault by one person, or speculating a larger company like Viz Media had taken part in it.
oh thank god when i clicked on this video i was afraid it would be by someone who was qualified to say hiveswap was the second worst disaster. luckily its just you. I do understand how frustrating the radio silence is, but as far as hiveswaps development goes i dont think hussie has made as many bad choices as you seem to imply. His professionalism is pretty terrible but there isnt anything to suggest that he isnt putting in the work. Even his occasional silly convention stuff. Andrew Hussie used to be someone who talked to his readers all the time, and that was fine when the reach of his work was small. But his readership and influence are much bigger now and hes a really awkward guy. If roach is the only one sharing development information it may be because hes the only one who feels like he can. The creation of this game has been fraught with roadblock after roadblock and in its early The Odd Gentleman really seemed to have been the thing that really fucked those roads up. Hussie is not legally allowed to publicly disclose the full extent of TOD's behavior but for a guy who's natural work ethic is WRITING A THING THAT GOT LONGER THAN ULYSSES it must have been a real toll. Not all bumps in the road of Hiveswap development are free of hussie culpability im sure. Little knowledge of behind the scene decisions is bad form for a kickstarter at best. Even so, for a guy who cant talk about how the money was stolen, and then thus has so much less of it when he realized he'd have to start an entire development team from scratch, i'd say its a miracle development continues on it at all. Everything theyve pulled together thus far shows how hard theyve been working, and how talented these people are. And if you dont know, regular hiveswap development continues, even after hussie and viz had to lay everyone off. some of them are working off the books now, and there doesnt seem to be any bad blood in this decision. I cant say much about the quality of the game itself aside that im sure we can count on a sort of situation escalation in the story similar to homestuck itself. Aside from that, theres no accounting for taste. if you feel the things that made homestuck Homestuck are missing from hiveswap then you cant be made to enjoy it. But for me the best thing about HS is its characters, and worldbuilding, both of which its well endowed with. So far its a lot less off the walls wacky, but it is supposed to more accessible than homestuck too. if anyone reading this feels burned by the way homestuck ended and what hiveswap seems to doing right now, I suggest you check out Optimistic Duelist's channel, or really any other platforms hes on. It might restore your faith in the story just a little bit.
I don't think there's any question about Hussie's work ethic. I think he's an incredibly talented man. I think the actual devs did a decent job with what they were given too. But all I'm asking is Hussie not to leave us in the dark for years on end. The fans gave him millions, he should at least keep us informed even if it's bad news. That's what makes all of this look bad in my opinion.
That much is completely fair. Still, i dont think that makes the hiveswap kickstarter a disaster second only to pictures for sad children. The games are still going to come out after all.
thinking recently... soul calibur 6? i think?? i could be wrong though i dont rly know. You could have me there tbh. my pool of knowledge surrounding non-handheld titles is really limited, to be sure, so i couldnt really begin to see the negative youre trying to prove. That being said, james roach saying that theyre 'basically on hiatus' doesnt actually sound like work isnt getting done on it at all. and he seems pretty confident in being able to return. So i have little doubt that the rest is gonna come out. is there an official tweet or post declaring hiveswap act 2 to be on indefinite-hiatus-hard-quotations by the way? I may have missed some news. I cant find it through google though.
in all fairness, cohen did emphasize that the writing was fully a collaboration between him and hussie. definitely not as good as homestuck either way though. great video overall though! got me thinking of hiveswap in ways that i hadnt previously.
except that is literalyl the beginning of the game. and the writing is a lot better than what he is portraying. because they are using the background as the narrative here as well. for example the deer and lion head puzzples. they are reference to two deities, one of wisdom and one of wrath. while use to represent calliop and caliborn in homestuck, they could honestly be used to represent cherub duality. more so, the deer dominates the lion here, giving the blind beast sight. in addition we have smaller clues to the cherub duality. for example there is tlierally a green castle with a skull on it with one of its teeth gold colored. yet while that should be a pretty blatant reference to lord english, it has one eye winking with femine eyelashes on it. put simply there is an influence of cherubs here, but not necessarily of lrod english himself. as he focused on his billioard blal and gambling theme rather than the duality that is inherent of his species. so much is forshadowed here.
I LOVE HOMESTUCK and I'm like 11 once my sister was talking about it and she was like haha I wish you knew what I was talking about so I read/watched it in fact I am reading it currently IT IS AMAZING
Glad to see that I am not the only voice of dissent here Act 1 of Hiveswap wasn't the greatest thing ever, it was *the greatest thing ever*. Everything about my life now is a little more grey knowing that I won't ever get to experience anything so good again. The amount of detail is absolutely insane, and I find it hilarious that we received a mentally handicapped protagonist to go with the mentally handicapped internet Several months ago I managed to break the silence on one corner of the internet with just a few forum posts. I must say that the fanbase is a really good source of writing ideas once you get them talking. Eventually a very dedicated troll shut down discussion with his meteors and pet monster Gl'bgolyb. Quite obviously this was some sort of request for those two things to be combined into a 90's JRPG cliche Last but not least everyone is assuming that Act 1 will have the same style of act 1, as opposed to say a corrupted kid's storybook or a young adult novel. The fandom's behavior makes no sense whatsoever, so they deserve an act 2 that makes no sense whatsoever because apparently the puzzles in act 1 were too easy. I don't feel sorry for them at all.
honestly this entire thing is just more or less negative opinions over facts. jame roach's own statement is too vague to take at face value as 'its on hiatus' because he was talking about himself a setence beforehand.
Every twist and turn in the development I state has a source to back it up. The rest is of course my own opinions. I just wanted to share my thoughts and tried to be as honest as I could. I don't think Hiveswap is a bad game (it's okay) and I find Jude really entertaining. If you love Hiveswap as much as I loved Homestuck, then go ahead! But for me persobally, it just hasn't been worth it. The hiatus thing is pretty clear to me: the entire team is currently looking for other work, including Cohen. Either the game is straight up cancelled, production is on hiatus (like Roach said), or Viz brought in another team to complete the game. None of this would be in question if they updated the backers more than once a year of course.
Andrew? Andrew Hussie? Is that you? i.imgur.com/JL25vlp.png Andrew, I can't and won't make this any simpler for you. You failed at life. You failed. When one thinks of what man is capable of, pushing himself to the limits physically, mentally and emotionally to achieve heights of success never before mentioned, your name will not be whispered in the same, reverent fashion that others have. Nobody will remember Andrew Hussie. You aren't even a header or a footer in the career of someone else. You are nobody. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. In short, you are an enormous failure. Andrew, being that you're about 35 years old and your brain has probably hard-wired itself to accept such failures by now and write off such criticism by being "flippant", really suggests that you've passed beyond the proverbial breaking-point. There's no turning back. This is your career, this is what defines you and this is what you'll defend to the end. The abhorrent failure that is MS Paint Comics, Andrew Hussie, that is your legacy. Maybe I'm over-reaching, however. Who knows? People CAN change. Maybe you'll read this, Andrew, and think long and hard about what a wasteful life you've led. Maybe you'll think, "wow. It's incredible just how abysmal and pathetic I really AM!" Maybe you'll lift some weights in the morning. Maybe you'll take a self-help class. Maybe in a couple of years, Andrew, you'll have learned from this failure. I doubt it, though. I genuinely doubt it. Now excuse me, I have to work on Undertale 2. My accountant estimates over sixty million dollars in sales.
cool vid on this disaster, informative
I don't particularly blame Hussie, he wasn't planning on becoming a game developer. While there are plenty of fuck-ups on his part, he's not a game developer and has no experience in the field.
It's still completely his fault he got almost 3 million dollars for a single game and he already some talented people with (toby fox etc.)

well i didn’t know that. now i’m pretty sad.
I dunno...I think Mighty No 9 is still up top there. Way worse than what's going on with Hiveswap.
At the very least you can boot up Mighty Number 9 right now and play the whole thing. Hiveswap is still incomplete.

Fair enough.
I came to the fandom from Hiveswap. I can’t imagine what it must have been like experiencing this shit show. :
Well it was a great way of developing near-infinite patience that's for sure.
So we'll just wait. Again.
