- How do you design a brush letter logo? How do you perfect the curves of a logo in Adobe Illustrator? How do you perfect the details in your logo designs?
In this logo critique, Chris Do and the team are critiquing this "Childish," hand-drawn logo by Ted Betridge- a talented young artist from the U.K. Chris goes over the techniques to perfect your brush lettering logo designs. In the second half of this video, Chris does a tutorial on how to smooth out your curves, how to align your details to a grid, and how to optically balance the details of this logo.

I love the playfulness of this new editing style.
Featuring Chris Do in Avatar - The Last Typebender :P
xTc Gaming jajajajajajajajaja
lol
wow.. this new montage style is..... unique i guess :) I mean it is very youtubish in geeky way but surprisingly works in very contrasty way
The meme's are strong with this one
It's amazing when you really dive into a hand lettered logo, you can see the inconsistencies more clearer. The "s" was the first thing that stood out to me.
Love these hand lettered videos...oh and your puns were on point 👍😂😂🤣
Cris blew my mind yet again working in a out line mode to fix a problem something I hardly ever consider, but it looks so much easier when he does it.
the education value of these videos is so high, thank you so much for the free book-learnin's
I think the h's need to be a little bit heavier. The lower end of the C should be connected to the loop of the 1st h as it is the more natural way of writing it in cursive. Lastly, I think the s should have a loop connected to the 2nd h. That last letter looks a bit lost since it's the only one separated from the rest.
Love all the changes Chris did on the letters, tho. These small details really brought a huge difference to the entire thing!
thanks for the suggestions
Dang...Watching these makes me miss the old live-streams & long-form videos...
I feel so too
This video should have way more views, seriously! So good and I love the editing.
Thank you. Loved the editing style in this one.
Beautiful. Love the details
This video came at the perfect moment. Thank you!
Great job! It looks so easy when you modify the curves, but they were a big problem when I first start using Illustrator.
Great skills. :D
Thank you Chris a great video, learned a lot 😊
I eat a book about lettering and type, it's a pretty old book though still awesome in the digital age. I think it was the second book I take as new designer. After I watched the video I got a lot of confidence because I could see most of issues Chris pointed even before his talk.
name of the book please ?
Mark is at it again haha 0:36
Love your edit and how you fix it , great one 😍
Y do I love the editing so much!!! Informative and entertaining!!! great Video
Love the sound effects
When you reached the "AHA" moment, you know you have learned something new 😄
Great stuff Mr Chris
It's all about the details, thank you😎👌✨
This is so cool!
The tip about the right anchor on the circle was on point.
agree! gonna show this to the client to see what has to be done for the type to be perfect! :P
Fantastic!!! :P
Erica and Molly, Awww, those were the days!!!
Good!
hey changed my name from bob2build to this in the end :D also cool video and enjoyed how you edited the video.
I'm still learning Illustrator, this is great. And the editing is on point!
Appreciate it
Can I get the link to the original video that you got this footage from? I dig the quick moving style of these new videos from this channel but I favor watching the full live stream.
Hahaha come on guys the type isnt the problem it’s us thats the problem. love it
Dope edits 💥
Thanks
What's the name of the music in the middle during the edit of the logo, the music that play at first time edit of the logo
NICE! I'm a new to Graphic Design~ so am just wondering, how do you make those guides when doing typography designs/logos?
Btw, Love the editing. Keeps me informed but not like a lecture~ (and Memes, spot on)
The upload timing of this video couldn't be better...
That C needed more attention, very good comments still
Love the process and explanation for the reason behind what you are doing. I am looking to purchase your typography 101 and hand lettering course and I was wondering would you recommend one before the other?
they are 2 different animals. typography is about making thoughts visible while lettering is about drawing letters. what's more lacking right now?
@@TheFuturAcademy well I believe I understand typography pretty well, but I feel as if I am possibly missing some aspects that my professor didn't go over. I also have noticed my supervisor has caught specific things that I didn't quite notice but should have. From constantly watching your videos I know by taking your class it will be nice refresher to go back to the basics and touch on other possible things I didn't know and know I am getting educated correctly. Hand Lettering I have tried to learn on my own but I can't quite grasp it and know it is going to take a lot more time and energy to grasp. So I was thinking the typography course would probably be better to go 1st but I wanted to hear your opinion and thoughts. Just to clarify I have been doing graphic design for 5 years full time between print and some web work. I don't know if that means much but just to give you an idea of where I am at currently.
But shouldn't the bottom of the C, angle up towards the loop of the H?
Yes. In some cases. We didn’t resolve that letter.
@@TheFuturAcademy In which cases not? (When you handwrite CH, you draw the stroke from the bottom of the C up to the loop of the H and then down. Is there any other way to write it ? - unless C and H are not connected at all...)
@Lenka Boots
That's precisely the case for cursive, but not brush lettering. The stroke is broken and the upper loop of the following letter is exaggerated.
@@sravyasudha1559 Oh, OK. I realize what you mean! Thanks :)
who is editing the videos ? i dig the style, also Chris giving the bigboi tips, nive vid.
Aaron is editing
When you brought that line to the top of the L did you ever join it to the path or just leave it? It looked like it snapped in there so perfectly
I joined it. Keyboard shortcut.
I like your lesson, you can teach me contest win tips for logo,i am normal logo designer,i can learn form you? Thanks
A link to your facebook in the description would be great :)
Good call
@@TheFuturAcademy :) i only mention it because i am lazy
How to capture your audience? Memes.
hahaha.
Should’ve connected the ‘c’ with the ‘h’ a bit more. Would’ve projected a seamless flow from one letter to the next
But isn't it quite ironic that we're expecting 'childish' to be all grown up?
And to think of it, why not? It'll have to grow up in the futur. XD
Hi bro I'm noobi what should i do
Learn
Does Ted have any online presence?
Yes. He has an IG account and YT channel.
The one thing I did not like was copying the tops of the h's so they were all *exactly* the same, that made it look like a font vs hand-drawn and custom-made, I think a bit of variation adds to a design and too much conformity takes away. Just my 2c
The H would be better off being attaching by a curve to the rest of the letters
I most liked u
Who wouldn't agree with you 🕺🕺
I wonder the same thing. Hehe.
that C definitely doesn't look right yet!
Right. Needs work.
Lefty problems
yeah
the stroke of the C should go up to the h... what about the "d"??? that d is pregnant or what? also the last h needs a stroke up from the s...
my eyes tolds me that... ^^
Where can anyone get energy to disagree with ChrisDo
all problems due to the fact that he used a ready-made font, and added a little from himself, the first letter C, for example.
but review was good
this whole video is a meme
Who ever is doing the editing, chill out on the memes and clips, speaking from a viewers perspective, it isn't done well and takes away from the knowledge being given here.
Such a *_Childish_* video it is.
Please don't say my " *_Childish_* " is inconsistent.
What's with the editing...? Not a fan
No?
@@TheFuturAcademy nope, doesn't feel like 'The futur'
Chris Do - Insanely talented, annoying on purpose.
Not a fan of the memes
