I don't know about you, but I was around in the 90s when the Death of Superman story was published. At that time, he was thought of as corny and antiquated, and antiheroes were big in comics. But when the Death story was announced, people came out of the woodwork, flooding DC with calls and letters pleading with them not to kill him because those same people, along with everyone else, recognized how important it is to have a character like Superman around.
Christopher Reeve made you believe a man could fly. The majesty of that first (well the second too) film hasn't been lost even over 40 years later. No one has matched what he did in that role.
His head was actually separated from his spine. Severed spinal cord . That’s why he couldn’t breathe without assistance. Paralysis from the shoulders down. He had to overcome quite a lot. It’s shows us what a hero truly is. ❤
In the beginning they both said “I never really cared and don’t no anything about Superman. He’s just kind of generic” 30 seconds into the trailer Smiles and Goosebumps🙂💙❤️💛
James Gunn says his stlye of filming for Superman is different from how he filmed GOTG. Basically, he won't "Guardians of the Galaxy-fy" Superman because that's not who the character of Superman is.
Those who saw it at the Sundance festival have said it was extremely good & an incredibly moving watch. I'm not sure what the distribution will be here in the UK but I really would like to see it. UPDATE: It will be only in select cinemas in the UK 🇬🇧 & Ireland 🇮🇪 on Nov 1st according to the Official trailer on the WB UK & Ireland channel
I was a kid in the 80s and one of our school trips was to the old BBC studios in White City - think we were in the audience for a children's show (obvs!), and as we walked through the doors to TV centre, this giant of man stood there smiling at us calmly as we all gasped in awe - yep, Christopher Reeve; patient as one of us came forward to ask if he was Superman...can't remember his reply, but remember the smile never left his face and how he made this gaggle of short people all feel noticed and ridiculously happy. He understood - for good or for ill - what a responsibility this role was, and damn he was a giant of a man. Hope this doc does him justice.
We live in dark times with dark themed movies. That's why when the younger generation sees superman they feel he is corny. He's not as cool looking as Batman or unique as Spiderman. Superman wasn't just about his abilities but his character. He stood for hope and believed in the people. Back then being a role model and example of great character meant something. It's unfortunate that now a days Superman is looked at as lame or goofy. I guess it's the changing of the times.
He was so good-looking and fun loving. In one of his first interviews, I think on Larry King Live, after his accident he answered a question about what happened to him with this (paraphrased) "Some people fall out of a window on the sixth floor and only have a few scratches. Others trip over their shoe laces and have a fatal fall." His and Robin Willams' friendship was everything the definition of friendship should be. That was not the actual footage of his near fatal accident. Apparently he fell straight on the top of his head and his first 2 vertebrae were crushed by the weight of his entire body. Basically his injury could be compared to being decapitated because his skull was no longer attached to (the rest of) his spine, but was only attached to the rest of his body by skin, veins, arteries, muscles and nerves. It's a miracle he survived at all.
That was the footage of the accident. Chris simply fell off the horse landing head first, just so simple to do, few seconds & life changed forever. There was a story not long ago of a middle-aged woman who jumped into a pool & broke her neck, she did survive
It may have seemed like such a simple accident, but it was by far one of the worst spinal injuries anyone could’ve ever faced. His skull literally detached from his spinal cord completely. Truly was heartbreaking, but we are forever happy he didn’t let that stop him from being our Superman.
@@dastemplar9681 Just so sad but I remember his fight & campaigning especially watching Smallville in the 2000's. That hero quote of his is like poetry 👏
This is why he will always be THE Superman. On the big screen, he made us believe a man could fly. In a wheelchair, he made us believe he could still fly with that amazing heart of his.
OMG saw the title thought na not for me but for some reason watched and the tears!!!!! OMG I will defo be watching this! Thank you because I might have otherwise missed it! 🙏🏽
Wow! Just the trailer had me in a flood of tears! I can only imagine how I’d feel watching the whole film. I vaguely knew Christopher Reeves story, but the trailer included aspects I didn’t know much about. His contribution to help others like him, is astonishing. 🥰
Yes, he is a super man, and has changed the direction of so many peoples lives, just as he did in the movies. I've watched the trailer three times and have cried that many times, too. I feel the same about Michael J fox... when terrible things happen to people, some of them do amazing things in the aftermath. (Have you seen No Arms No Legs? God, that's an incredibly humbling watch.)
Man this was so sad to watch but looks incredible. What an amazing person christopher reeve was. What's so sad is how his wife died not long after from lung cancer.
How can that moment and theme at 5:11 not give you chills. Even off the screen and even when he could not move at all, Christopher Reeve was still Superman. He changed so many lives
Superman can be hard to do _well_ I think because drama comes from limitations and on paper at least, he has very few (and the one he does have, kryptonite, everybody already knows about). But when done right he's the _quintessential_ superhero IMO because he's _so_ powerful that he can _afford_ effectively infinite compassion, to _always_ do the unalloyed right thing. And that's what Christopher Reeve brought to the role for me, that light touch and just plain uncompromising goodness. So yeah, tl;dr, I was a mess throughout this trailer too :).
Excellent comment, i think he had a unique ability to come across as strong, gentle and charming as Superman but awkward and sweet as Clark Kent. I honestly think, no matter how the first film has dated, he's the only person, with the right script, to have so completely captured both sides so convincingly.
Me and my Son&Daughter loved the Superman films,we'd go to the Cinema to see them when released. The Story of Christopher Reeves looks an emotional story. He really was a Superman..❤❤
Descanse En Paz Gran Actor Christopher Reeve. Vivirá Inmortal en sus Películas. Entrevistas. Extraordinario Actor. En Octubre 2024. Cumple veinte años de su fallecimiento. Ejemplo de vida. Superman.
❤ Christopher Reeve had the strength of Superman and lived life to the the full. He was my hero in childhood and a inspiration in adulthood, and his appearance in the show Smallville was magical. The Man of Steel.
Superman DID HAVE a "facelift" in the form of Henry Cavill's Superman (it is no fault of Henry's). Dark, gloomy, and a stoic Superman, look how that ended up, how that affected the entirety of DC's movie universe. In short, Superman doesn't need a "facelift" he is perfect as he is.
Wow❤This is going to be so moving,I'm sorry but to me the only superman is the lovely Christopher Reeves. Loved the movies when I was a kid. Great review guys, lovely to see the wonderful Robin williams face too❤both gone way too soon.X
It looks really good. Reeve is an icon and a real hero despite what he thought about himself. :) (also I recommend 'Superman & Lois'. Especially as a father. Tyler Hoechlin as 'Superdad' is great)
Was a Domsday, 😢 nobody can be or replace him, either with the new technology, everybody try something almost impossible, SUPERMAN is gone. He left to us, his legacy.
He wasn't the original Superman. George Reeves was, in terms of live action (who also had a tragic life), but Christopher Reeve is the most iconic for sure.
Oh gosh this is forever engrained into our generation. A Juilliard graduate, a bright and beautiful man who was never really given the chance to properly act?
Why does everybody think the only thing James Gunn can do is. GOTG material he worte it specifically that way for that movie and for those characters. Will it have hand print on it of course. Every Good director or writer will. He is both a good writer and a good director
I only like the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, sorry. That's just my era, I love his morals and how he was. Superman himself wasn't exactly immune, he was powerful but could be hurt. His desire to help and love is more impressive thhan blowing up buildings. Superman 1978 could be hurt, but he'd put himself through obstacles that could kill hill him in order to save people. That was what was amazing. He'd sacrifice himself for others. That's amazing.
This is why Superman is an emotion.❤❤😢
Superman is beyond a superhero and thanks to Christopher Reeve👑 for being real life Superman🥲
Well said 👏👏👏👏
Couldn't have put it better myself
Superman hasn’t been stale or corny ever. People change but are coming back around to him

@@joshuahermanson341being thought of as corny or boring and actually being corny or boring are two separate things

Nicely put

Christopher Reeve is the perfect definition of SUPERMAN, he is SUPERMAN, he always will be, the best superhero of all time ♥️
Amen ❤
When that music kicks in!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That Krypton theme remix got me all 😭😭😭

My Superman ... this is going to be a hard watch
Wow that looks incredible. I got goosebumps watching that and urs and maddie’s reaction. Really hope we get to see that over here on streaming x

My first time watching this trailer. I’m now a puddle. He was my childhood and he never stopped being my hero.

What a life. Thanks is for highlighting this . I will definitely watch it 🥹
Oh Wow, so Beautiful, so Amazing, so Tragic.

Poignant is the word…
He was superman not in the character but in his resilience determination and bravery.
Simply a colossus of a man….

Superman is iconic. The most needed hero nowadays. Chris was Superman, off screen and on.

George Reed was the original Superman in the 1950's.

There is nothing to laugh about, Superman! You don't know, Superman! Be respectful!
Sad sad what’ happened to him 😞
Wow that Superman track
Small correction, he became a quadriplegic.
That was so emotional
Is this on tv or cinema??

And then his poor wife died of lung cancer and at quite a young age not that long after and i dont think she ever smoked. So cruel .
Well technically not the original Superman, George Reeves is closer to thay
😢

So sad he was a super man xx
Superman hasn’t been relevant since Christopher Reeves
Not the original superman
