    Hey mate. I worked for eBay for a while as a customer service rep and I worked directly with sellers, and I have a lot of experience with this. Often, stuff through the GSP would arrived damaged to customers.
    This doesn't matter if it's the US or the UK as Pitney Bowes are the ones who have the contract for both, but one thing I know for sure is that the UK staff got in a lot of trouble for awful man-handling of packages, and for a while it calmed down, before they got reckless again.
    eBay know, but eBay really don't care. People are still going to use the GSP for simplicity's sake and because of cost. For a lot of people, the GSP is a lot cheaper for them to use than to ship themselves.

    • @kbhasi
      @kbhasi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +210

      (EDIT: It was mentioned later in the video that Pitney-Bowes has ONE facility per country for eBay GSP)
      I have a feeling those who are inspecting the packages aren't being paid enough, get unrealistic expectations set on them (a la Amazon), and/or don't actually get to see the original eBay listing and/or information about the and/or handling it.

    When I was selling stuff on eBay as a full time job (Blank Cassettes, VHS, etc.) and I had a buyer ask to use GSP, I told them no. I’d just sit down and do the 14 page paperwork (if I remember correctly) and send it out. I remember seeing on the forums that this was a common issue and just never wanted to run the risk. Plus, I’d always get positive feedback from my buyers for how fast I was able to get it there. Sure, I’d ask for more money for “handling” but it never was outrageous, and plus, the buyers were more than happy to pay just a little bit more so their item arrives faster and in the condition they bought it in.

    Seeing this is now making me panic about the vinyl records I brought a couple of days ago that are coming from the USA to the uk, I'm hoping they leave it alone as one of them is 50year old new old stock(still in it wrapping) and rare as rocking horse poo
    Edit: it turned up a couple of days ago and it didn't look promising. The packaging had obviously been opened and poorly taped back together, with a nice slip mark of a box cutter, thankfully the seller had packed it well and the blade didn't make it through the second layer and my records thankfuly remained unharmed.
    But I must admit this has really put me off buying anything from American sellers in the future

      It does limit risk to sellers, in that it prevents the foreign buyer "it didn't arrive" keep the item and get a full refund scam. It is their responsibility for the foreign part of the delivery. It doesn't make the sale completely scam-proof of course.

I suggested the GSP. They said If I wanted to use it, they would not buy my item, because this crap going on is just that awful. I cannot really blame them, this is some poop. Sure enough he bought it and it arrived in like 14 days in literally pristine condition, minus some scuffs. He had even sent me a picture of the box along side another from the GSP. One from me looked like someone dragged it on some pavement for a few feet. The other looks like it had hit pavement at terminal velocity, then been promptly sat on, as the god of thunder proceeded to have intercourse with the box. There was literally a huge hole in the side of the box and what looks like the front end of a VW golf that was hit by a train. Wtf eBay how does that even happen.

(Denmark has very high taxes) but ever since 2019 The Global Shipping Program has been a pain in the a** because now they use Bring as carrier and Bring do not delivery to peoples homes but random stores long away from the buyers so we have to waste money on gas or bus tickets to go to these stores to get the items and Bring lies on the phone if calling them and claims ebay/PBI has ordered them to delivery packages to random stores long away... this has made me starting to avoid the Global Shipping Program. I live in the city where UPS has their airport based, I worked for them multiple times in the summer as a package handler.
    UPS package handlers are flipping a coin every day they walk in regarding whether it’ll be a decent consistency of work, nothing too bad yk or ABSOLUTE FUCKING OVERDRIVE DON’T STOP OR ELSE YOU’RE MARKED. Shit’s CRAZY BUSY during the winter month too, the pay was 1,5x ($15 USD which actually ain’t too bad for Kentucky). It’s exercise and you get 15 minutes for lunch. They hire pretty much anyone with a beating pulse that can lift boxes, you’ll find everyone from sleep deprived college students to tweaking junkies working there. I’ve worked on several teams in each “sector” (it’s so big it’s like a small city) where I met all kinds of people. There was even a black dude who lived in Russia for 15 years working there, knew more Spanish than English since he was from Cuba. UPS don’t treat you special but if you stick with it they take care of you decently well (full health insurance, unions, sick/vacation days, etc) considering you’ll probably never move up the ladder. Also yeah sorry about the packages, I tried my best to treat boxes carefully but when you got 15 full trucks (in your small zone team of like 10 people, this place employs thousands) who MUST be on the road at a certain time or else YOU’RE GONEZO...you’re gonna start throwing some things here and there in order to keep your job since Kentucky is one of the poorest states in the union and you probably don’t have a better gig if you’re a package handler for years on end at a young age

      Do RC I sell on eBay, unless I am totally convinced it is my fault, I contact eBay to review the details. Only once have I not had eBay side in my favor. In that case, they were nice enough to give me a credit equal to the amount of my loss. I had to issue the refund, but the credit covered that month’s bill.
      When you do create a case with eBay, and they side with you, they will remove any negative feedback you might get.
      I made a guy furious who bought a DVD player from me. He claimed it didn’t work, asked for a refund and offered to recycle it. I told him I needed the item returned before I issued a refund. He insisted on recycling it, so I got eBay involved. He told eBay he couldn’t return it because he tried to take it apart to fix it, but his screwdriver slipped and damaged the circuit board. He said that shouldn’t matter because it was already broken. eBay closed the case in my favor. He then wrote me a nasty message saying he was going to leave me negative feedback. Ebay blocked him from leaving feedback, Then I blocked him from buying from me.
      If you are in the right, ebay will side with you. If you are in the wrong, but had the right intentions, they are often sympathetic and will work with you to minimize the loss.

    • @xnetpc
      @xnetpc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do RC my best recommendation is to have thoroughly discussed the issue with the buyer before contacting eBay. They will review your messages, and if you’ve done what you are supposed to do, they should side with you. The only time I lost a case was because I sold
      a used item with a comment in the item description saying it may or may not work depending on what the buyer planned o doing with it. I lost because eBay felt my description was ambiguous and they told me to list an item like that as is. Listing an item as is gives the seller protection from buyers saying something doesn’t work like they expected.
      I should also mention that I told eBay I disagreed with their decision, I will respect it and issue a refund. They said they understood why I felt that way, and agreed that their terms of service on the matter could be interpreted differently depending on the circumstances. They offered me a credit toward my next invoice equal to the amount of my loss.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xnetpc here's an example. I sold something listed both in the description as parts and as parts in the condition. The buyer got it and said it didn't work (which obviously it didn't). eBay forced me to accept the return. When I got it back it was physically damaged from the way the buyer packed it. eBay refunded them and made me eat the cost of shipping both ways. Throughout this I took pictures of everything and was in constant communication with both eBay and the buyer. I appealed as far as eBay would allow with the same decision. During this time I wasted hours on hold and trying to speak with people who barely spoke English (yes I asked to speak to other people). This is just one example of several.
      I've been in professional IT MGMT for years and have a pretty good understanding of how to handle stuff like this and get the hoped for outcome. I'm glad you've been fortunate but it's just not always like that.

    Well said mate. Big corporations always know their shitty practices being shitty but they won’t lift a finger if people still use those rubbish services. It has always been us, the consumers and sellers who let it slide for years. I myself stop dealing with Ebay years ago because of other issues they gave me. Moral of the story: if you’re lazy, don’t sell internationally.

I just don't want things damaged to hell and back. Seeing boxes slashed like that hurts since those aren't something people keep for things that matter more than a apple product. Hell somehow for recent games that you're better off leaving in the case when not in use people still manage to lose the case which means the disc is usually fucked

    I have only ever had 1 experience with the global shipping program. I tried to buy some powerbanks from the US. I was after this specific model because they had 5 USB ports out and a hard switch to lock them on. Unlike most powerbanks that will turn off after a period of time which no power used. I was using them for Arduino and other low power stuff that regular ones always would turn off. Anyway the seller sent them to the GSP and they got rejected. Stating batteries were prohibited or something. Was so stupid.

    I used to drive the city bus that serves the PB warehouse. I'm not surprised but not for the quality of the workers. Those people have to do so many packages in an hour or they lose the job. In this part of Kentucky it is a job that pays relatively well. Corners get cut because they don't have time to be careful. The people processing the physical packages are good people, they have just been put under massive loads from PB

    i live in the U.K. and having had 5 international parcels with issues sent thru' ROYAL MAIL the tracking is atrocious
    i've had no problems with the GSP system until recently but the issue was our couriers losing the item before it got to the U.K.gsp address.
    i also watch australian "border control" programs on sky tv and its an insight, i'm surprised the pistons i sent were ok on arrival seeing the state of your deliveries.
    but i do pack some what better than your packages were. as its not ebay you need to have a go at, its the customs ! in your country !

    Start asking the sellers to add a thick layer of cardboard or something along the box cut lines so when they decide to open them with a katana with all the grace and finesse of someone eating a mc-donalds, it will hopefully just dig into the cardboard protectors rather than the boxes (If they insist on using Ebay Global Shipping Program which I thought seemed like a decent service but I'll be avoiding this like the plague in the future it seems).
