So what would you use instead, i can't really think of anything that would suit. An example of what to use instead would have been helpful, I've just got no ideas for an alternative.

my puppy's breeder named her, but I wanted a different name. So I just said "Millie" dozens of times a day and gave her a treat when she showed up, enthusiastic play and praise sometimes if a treat wasnt handy. Walking around the property I used let's go to mean I'm leaving better hurry along with me. I started training Come at 6 months, using hot dog bits and requiring a front sit and collar grab. The hot dogs really increased her enthusiasm!

I use the touch command. Dog has to come touch my hand. I also kneel and they come to me. Name recognition is a big one. And use the come command also. I’ve trained four dogs this way. I use treat and praise for rewards.

Bad advice. Come means come every time. Whether it's an emergency or during play or just training come means come. Also, I absolutely hate the idea of a "throw away command" again. All bad advice from a source that usually has very good positive reinforcement training.
