I actually think redoing the cabin, gave it a glass cockpit, and maybe fit it with a new engines could bring this plane back

Some 20plus years ago I flew TAP Lisbon to Heathrow on a A310-300 on a return flight for a Company Business trip.
I remember a complimentary bottle of Mateus Rose from the TAP lounge, a half full aircraft and one of the best flights ever.

My memories to the A310 go way back to the early nineties when I flew them with Singapore Airlines a few times. Mostly on the Singapore-Brunei route. And if my memory serves me right, I once flew one domestically in Thailand with Thai Airways.

You've taken me down memory lane, Paul. Thank you! I regularly flew on Air Niugini's A310 in the first half of the 90's. They also had the A300, and as a kid I loved both types equally, although I flew on the A310 more often. Before airbus planes, they had the legendary 707 which I still have vague but happy memories of flying in the early 80s.

Thank you Paul for recording this piece of aviation history. I'm fortunate in that I've enjoyed many A310 flights from YYZ to Manchester and Glasgow. Even on my final flight last year, I was surprised by both the comfort and how well AIr Transat kept these old aircraft maintained and modernized as much as possible. When normalcy returns, perhaps a Trans-Atlantic flight on one of their new A321LR single isle aircraft for comparison?

Hi Paul, I flew Cyprus Airways Heathrow to Larnaca on one of their A310 - in the mid '90s . . . . . .nice smooth flight until it came to the landing, after two attempts, one from each end of Larnaca's single runway we powered up and made the short hop to Paphos in the East of the island. After a perfect landing and a two hour wait we were bussed to Larnaca just in time to see our A310 - landing !!!!! WE were then bussed to Paphos as that is where our hotel was located . . . . .package holidays, don't you just love them !

"We won it 6 times" flashing up as you touched the fuselage upon boarding was an amusing touch! Flying the A310 looks like a very interesting experience, I flew with Air Transat in 2015 (LGW-YVR & YYC-LGW) but both legs were on their A330s, which were admittedly fairly nice - great video as always!

Nigeria Airways was probably the only airline in Africa in the 80's to operate the Airbus A310, operating routes between Nigeria, Europe and other African countries. I remember what a lovely aircraft it was, and onboard entertainment in those days were the projector screens in front of each class. Good times!

It was a nice trip one really had the chance to see the differences of the Soviet-era airlanes versus much modern aircraft.

I flew on a Czech Airlines flight from Dubai to Prague on 25 May 2006. Early morning departure from Dubai, flight was fine, not full. Was making my way back to Darlington UK and this was the first leg. Waited 5 or 6 hours for connection to Manchester, then used TransPenine to get to Darlo. Weird itinerary due to a work project having a contract problem and our manager said 'don't unpack' - we'd arrived the night before. So had to find quickest/ cheapest way back.

I have flown with club class, and it was awesome. I actually loved the dinner I received, perfect portion and on real silverware and plates. Pretty tasty as well. Second breakfast just before landing so you’re fed and in a good mood. Seats are spacious and roomy, and it doesn’t feel so chaotic. Club class have their own flight attendant and bathroom as well. You get priority lines at the airport and get to board first. I can’t reccomend it enough!

I flew Air Transat A310 from Glasgow to Toronto in 2002. I seem to remember we sat at the back of the aircraft and the seats narrowed from 3 to 2 as you got to the back. I had a window seat and the seat next to me was the aisle which my wife had. Great if just two of you travelling and you want some privacy.

Your early boarding comment reminds me of my flight in 2012 from Newark to Norway. Arrived in Oslo had to x-fer to a flight to Trondheim. After a long line at the immigration point and to check in to the next flight, I had to be the brash American(hate resorting to that) & jump ahead of everyone at the security line after explaining my situation to the attendant. Luckily she understood my time constraint, not to mention if I didn’t show up to my training class the next day there went 8000 euros down the tube. Hope to go back there someday soon.

This brings me back souvenirs. It was on a A310 that I went to Paris on 2010. I was in economy, sitting in the aisle seat. The space under the seat in front to put my bag was pretty bad. Other than that, what you showed of economy looks exactly like it was in 2010.
As a canadian, I like Air Canada but my wallet prefers Air Transat. When they fly to the same place as Air Canada, Air Transat is often a lot cheaper. Last time I took Air Transat was in 2018 to go to Portugal and all seats in economy had a personal entertainment system.

Glad the rudder had been replaced !! Phew !!! The food did not look good..strange when you are flying OUT of Paris !! Not up to snuff I would say in this class !! In Rain Man they left in the quote about Qantas and it's safety record !!! So you can imagine when flying with QF they were quite happy to leave it in the movie !! Great review mate and great to see you back.An ok trip except for the bland food...nothing like a Baileys coffee to lift the spirits (pardon the awful pun ) !! Hope you are well and safe and we are all itching to get flying somewhere soon...in fact any bloody where !! Thanks again Paul...really enjoyed it !!

Hello Paul, I have flown a handful of times on an A310 ( Polaris CC-150). This is what the Canadian Military use for its service flights, transporting its members to locations around the world. I have flown from Dubai to Cyprus, Cyprus to Winnipeg, Ottawa to Lille, France and back all on the CC-150 . The amenities in economy are very minimal, but on a free flight who can complain... lol
It’s great to see another excellent video, I hope all is well.

I worked that aircraft 30 years ago with Wardair, such a pleasure to see it still flying. The plane was delivered to Wardair in the 80s, it felt pretty new at the time, lol. I was a flight attendant with them between 88 and 91and I was doing mainly Montreal to Paris and London with it. It was my best aircraft to work on, mainly because it was a rather small widebody. As you said, it's cozy and at the same time feels spacious. But Wardair had a better configuration in the back, I think it was 2-3-2 or maybe 2-4-2, definitely not 9 across! Times have changed for sure, not for the better, at least in passenger comfort.
Wardair was merged with Canadian Airlines in 1991 and Canadian sold the entire A310 fleet to mostly Air Transat but also to our Prime Minister who I think was still using it last year.

At CSA Czech Airlines, the A310 routes will be replaced by A321XLR. I remember CSA Czech Airlines used to operate A310s from Prague to North America until the service was discontinued a couple years ago. I think those had a 2-4-2 layout in economy. Now apparently they are planning to use the A321XLR for the same routes. Interesting.

Not sure about the Paris/to Quebec route, but I know that Air Transat is big into the double catering. meaning the return leg of food is also loaded, and travels in the cargo hold. Once arrived at its destination, it gets swapped for the return leg. saves on the catering costs at foreign airports, but at the expense of the food being "bland". an example would be Vancouver to Mexico. Load the food for both the fight to Mexico (in the galley) and the return leg (in the LD3 containers)

Ah, a trip down memory lane. I flew Qatar's A310's plenty times before they upgraded to A330's. Their business class was not a million miles away from what you showed on Air Transat in terms of configuration, although there was a bit more space and much better food and drink. Thanks for the Video, Paul.

Congrats with soon 200k sub.! Great vlog as always! The air vents have been changed. The orginal was white plastic. I am many yrs older than you, so I flew these aircraft almost brand new in the late 80s and early 90s. First I flew them with Pan Am and then I flew them with Delta. Less than 10 years ago PIA flew them to/from Pakistan- Europe. Then they were banned from flying in Europe due to some lack of maintenance or paperwork that they had done so, so overnight all A310 flight became B777 flights. Personaly I perfer the B767. Be safe and stay safe!

I flew on an A310 in 1989. Pan-am San Francisco to New York on my way home to the Netherlands. My only Airbus experience! (not flown that much alas!) It was much more comfortable than the Boeing 727-200 and the 747-200 (or maybe 747-100) I also flew on then.

I flew on an Air Transat A310 a few years ago between Brussels and Montreal in economy. Although I was initially impressed by the thickness of the seats they appeared to be quite uncomfortable after 2 hours and we were cramped due to lack of space. It had to be done and it is done but next time I will look for other options.

Flew on an Air Transat A310 way back in Sept. 2004, between Toronto and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Didn't think it would be the only round trip I'd ever take on an A310 (or sole round trip with Air Transat thus far, for that matter), but it was a solid ride each way.
Glad you got to fly it before they were retired from the fleet, especially since COVID struck. EDIT: Just a quick note that the flight map shown halfway through the video's not the correct one, as it shows YUL as the destination instead of YQB.
Additionally, there used to be another option to fly the A310 - with Sata International between Lisbon (or the Azores) and Toronto, though those aircraft were retired in the past couple of years.

Oh the tales I could tell you about Air Transat. In the 90s I was a manager at a Manchester hotel and air transat had several dozen crew based at the hotel on a long term contract. Their head of station set fire to the public bar, flight crew trying to drink all night and then fly in the morning, tragically one of the crew died when he fell onto the highspeed railway. Eventually the hotel kicked them out after months of outrageous behaviour.

Three months ago I was in your place for the same flight . Air Transat is a good value for money I think , the only fault is the seat which tended to move very slightly. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Wonderful flight review of the Air Transat A310! The one and only time that I have flown on an A310 was back in 1990 when I flew a Canadian Airlines A310 between Toronto and Vancouver before a transpacific flight on a DC10 to Hong Kong. As an aside, the A310 did not last long in Canadian's fleet and they were soon sold to the Royal Canadian Air Force where they remain in service to this day either as air tanker or VIP transport (Prime Minister's aircraft).

@@Paul_Lucas Yes, Canada does get lots of snow! And if you really want to see the winter weather in comfort, you might want to do Via Rail's Canadian run (Toronto-Vancouver) in Winter. That one's on my bucket list. :) (Plus, it's a bit cheaper in Winter, too).
