My dealer sells both and likes both but told me the E-tec motors seem to last forever and the Polaris 800's are good for about 1500 miles. Easy decision.
The ski doo is 10 pounds heavier then the polaris, and the ski doo has more power all through the powerband according to dynotech, 850 vs 850 that is. And it has a better track OEM, it is less nose heavy, 25 pounds less nose heavy according to a swedish magazine. It has perfect 50/50 weight distribution between the skies and it has the most advanced 2 stroke engine and clutch in the industry. The new 850 patriot resembles the engines polaris used back in 2005 with slight upgrade, hence the bad powerband
My real life experience is I see Polaris 800's burning down at around 1500 miles. There are some after market kits with longer pistons and a cylinder spacer that fixes that problem. but stock, Polaris 800's are unreliable.
Kyle, I think, maybe U should talk to someone who makes a living rebuilding BRP motors! Specifically their shitty crank shafts, good money to be made because after 5000km the cranks begin to self destruct! Polaris has had issues with the 2012 and 2013 piston reliability but more recent engines seem to be free from previous glitches. The most reliable 800 engine is actually the Arctic Cat which is never mentioned in any of these write ups. Yes the Cat burns more fuel and oil but unlike the BRP it isn't like riding a hand grenade with the pin pulled! I hope the new 850 is better, but realistically it would be hard to be any worst than the 800 from the early 2000's to the latest Etec 800 with greased crank bearings! Fingers crossed for BRP's latest offerings as they have finally realized that 12,000km is not reasonable life expectancy!
Todd Grant but then the polaris crank doesnt even have time to self destruct cause those engines blow every 1000kms if you get one of the lucky polarises that are out there
Mostly all of my friends have an 850, but the problem is that they have to change the drive belt for every trip they are on, they just blows up.. Same with the sks 146, same problem there. I don't know about the 155, there is not many people here that have sks 155. Hopefully they both fix this problem, because it can't be fun to own a snowmobile who eats belts for every time you go for a ride.

This is coming from a Polaris owner and just testing even the old XM chassis for 10 minuets in the mountains. Cause I really don’t feel like putting another $3,600 into my sled with only 1,100 miles on it.

Polaris products, top to bottom are better. My personal experience. I've owned multiple products by both. Polaris will always win in my opinion. Ski-don't=garbage. Polaris=quality, dependability, and value. I will never pay $14,000 for a sled I can use 2-3 months maybe per year. I am thankful to be able to ride, and thankful for the competition between these two ORV makers.
I bought 2 snow check machines, a VR1 and a Switchback in 2020, shortly later the machines were recalled, the sleds could blow-up. I took the sleds in for repair, fast forward 2 years, I received a "do not ride" notice. Now, 4 years later Polaris has not resolved the issue. I have asked for a refund or a safe replacement sled (s). Stay away, read everything on the web, lawsuits are coming, Polaris cannot handle the engineering.
Same two sleds reviewed in the U.S. by Americans.........Polaris wins. I understand I would do the same thing if I lived in Canada. I wouldn’t want a Molson bottle cracked over my head.
What they failed to mention is prices! Nice review without mentioning $. The Polaris wins hands down, way better value for your money coming in at over 3k cheaper
take a skidoo side hilling on the side of a mountain you can stop there and the sled will stay where it is do it with Polaris you better have insurance cause that sled is not staying there and I bet if you take the 2015 skidoo iron dog up against any kind of Polaris skidoo will win

God damn those things are trains lol
Any of these sleds are a million times more capable than I am of riding it. You gotta be real good to fully exploit the ‘pros’ of each one (pun intended 🤪lol)
I’m surprised they picked skidoo since they are so Polaris biased Skidoo in my opinion has always been better then Polaris.
Ski-doo all the way
Same
Jayden Falk oh hell no
Polaris products, top to bottom are better. My personal experience. I've owned multiple products by both. Polaris will always win in my opinion. Ski-don't=garbage. Polaris=quality, dependability, and value. I will never pay $14,000 for a sled I can use 2-3 months maybe per year. I am thankful to be able to ride, and thankful for the competition between these two ORV makers.
hell yeah Polaris for the win finally
Soo 162s arent mountain sleds anymore?
Jag har fel
Yeah, I'm waiting until they're over 200"! 😁
Dan Buddy that would be kinda hard to ride in the trees.
Jag har fel
Alright. 220s then...
No, 300s.
Yosemite Sam actually they're Canadian
Bombardier. Is the best. After all. They invented the snow Mobile
Ford invented cars.... your point was?
that must be why they'll stop producing most car models
Doesn’t matter how good of a sled or bike u give them or they get “Polaris” (trash) is btter
ski doo is the real garbage
brp rider forever
Ski doo is way batter
Bombardier any day
What they failed to mention is prices!
I'll take a Polaris
Half these comments are from guys that done even know how to use either.
