My question is... didnt realize these were brush motors, is it worth/easy to upgrade it to brushless ???
Brushless motors are heavy which is why a drone with large brushless motors usually also has a large battery. It would be difficult to place brushless motors on this drone because brushless motors require plenty of power and ESCs to control the power.
Did you have any issue with recording video on to sd? Mines doesnt seem to record to sd, but it is able to take pictures. I wonder if i ended up with a deffective one. Is there a trick to getting it to record to sd?
Most drones that have a micro SD default to the App, which means you put the Micro SD card in, connect the App, hit record on the App and not the controller, and all should work.

Was this the 2Mp camera version or the 5MP version? I'm currently waiting for delivery of my 5MP version, I preordered it 6 weeks ago and at long last its on its way. I think this one is the 2Mp. It has the ability to remove the camera (which I discovered after the review) and insert a micro SD card to capture higher quality 1080p video.... so maybe it is the 5mp? Toy drones get that label from the manufacturer (usually identified on the web site). Usually drones under $100 get the title Toy Drones or disposable drones or fun drones. Hi Captain Drone! Nice review of Visuo XS812. Btw, can you please make a review of the SMRC S20 with GPS? That's an entry level drone. A good one for a beginner like me. Thanks!
I used to do that but then TH-cam analytics showed me that 90% of people either stopped watching or skipped through the unboxing. I think the only people who watch the unboxing are those who are considering buying it, so I place it at the end.
CAPTAIN DRONE hmmmm so it’s just for me and the rest of the 10% ahah. But you go ahead and trust the analytics, that’s a smart thing to do, whatever’s better for the channel and the viewers. Great job!

I can't get my android phone to find the WiFi. Its works with our 5g router but won't find this. And my missus I-phone finds it no problem. Its a Samsung note 3 with the correct WiFi but android 5 OS I think
BE WARNED!!! Do not fly these more than 2 battery changes in a row without letting them cool down. The very weak plastic motor supports distort and cause all kinds of problems. Found out the hard way after this happening twice to me. easy enough to change out the arm housings, but its easier still to just let them cool off a bit. Other than that they are a fun, fast, and cheap little GPS quad.
That was my fault. I left the camera pointing straight forward, so when the drone tilts forward to fly forward, you get the props. If I would have tilted the camera down slightly, on flown higher, all would have been ok.
and they just keep updating the original 809. first it got alt hold. then it got an increased flying time with a better battery and cool shark paint job. and now it has gps. I wouldnt be surprised if they shoehorned brushless in there next.
During the whole video you seemed like you were expecting the worst, trying to make it fail, knocking / doubting it's features before even trying them. You know a lot about drones so the acting dumb about the features was a bit off putting. I was impressed by the drone and it's performance. I was not impressed by your review. Seemed a little biased.
I found out after I created the video that you can pull the camera module straight out of the drone and insert a Micro SD card. Once you do that, video improves massively. The video show in this review was recorded at 720p on my cell phone. If you use a Micro SD card, it goes up to a clear 1080p.
Of course, this provides that you actually buy the SKU including the 1080p/5MP camera module - and not the 720p/2MP one. Hopefully, the 5MP camera module becomes available for purchase separately soon - as the bastards of Banggood.com shipped to me the 2MP edition of my XS812, and not the 5MP I pre-ordered from them 😠
When you do PiP it would be much better to have the drone footage large. There is really no benefit to see your head cam view and all of the herky jerky motion is annoying. People are more interested in how the camera on the drone looks. Also, I know you have a lot of experience with drones, but it might be worth taking a few minutes to read the instructions for each instead of wondering out loud how to operate it.
Thanks Mark. I usually make the drone image large if it is a 1080p or higher image, because my reviews are in 4K. This drone was shipped to me with a 720p camera. 720p stretched to 4K does not look that great so I leave it in its 720p size on the screen. You are 100% correct. I've been flying drones for way too long that I never read the instructions anymore. Everything should be intuitive, but sometimes (as in this video... perhaps not so much). I find if I make videos from a first impressions point of view, learning as I go, it becomes more entertaining and I appear less business/robotic. Also, when something impresses me, it is genuine.
Mark, I just had a look at the instructions for this drone and they are very limited when it comes to the features of the drone and the features of the App (I wanted to see if I had missed anything). One person commented that the camera can pop off and you can add a micro SD card. That is nowhere in the instructions and is not something you'd notice on the drone itself. I just tried it and you can indeed pry the camera module off the drone and insert a micro SD Card to obtain 1080p video. The quality shown in my review is 720p which is sent to your phone.
CAPTAIN DRONE Sorry if my original comment sounded too strong or critical. I enjoy watching your videos. I just wanted to share my thoughts to try to help you make them even better. I'm curious why you (and many other TH-camrs) feel the need to max out vids at 4K. Are that many people watching them on big screen TVs (in the U.S.)? I would think the vast majority are still either using their mobile phones or computers, but of course I may be wrong. And regards to instructions, just like with unboxings, I think there's a benefit to us the viewers to know how detailed and effective the instructions are. Chances are that anyone interested in a drone such as this one (entry level) are novices. Anyway, keep up the great work. I look forward to your next review. :)
The 4K is just a future proof method. For those that can view a video above 1080p (and there are many resolutions between 1080p and 4k), it gives them a more detailed video (the audio may even be improved, but not sure). My unboxings are present but super fast due to the many complaints regarding unboxing videos. Most instructions received with the under $200 US drones (made in China as most are) are either written in less than poor English or in a language that is incomprehensible leaving out many features, especially in Apps.
CAPTAIN DRONE I agree that unboxing videos, on their own, are a bit boring. But I think doing them quickly, as you now do, is helpful and maybe including a few comments on the instructions at that time would also be beneficial. As far as 4K, I assumed that's why you upload them that way. However, I doubt you (or any reviewer) will get many views outside of 6 months time and definitely not after a year or more. I think most of us want to know 2 things from drone reviews right now - a. ease of use and functionality of the unit, and b. video quality. How it's going to look on my viewing device. A small PiP window isn't helpful in that regard. Again, just my 2 cents though. ;)
Sir..sorry I asked, if it is difficult to get spare parts such as four arms along with four motors and gears for this visuo xs812, are the spare parts of visuo xs809 and visuo xs816 compatible with visuo xs812?
I look forward to your uploads, you are by far my favorite drone reviewer.

CAPTAIN DRONE hmmmm so it’s just for me and the rest of the 10% ahah. But you go ahead and trust the analytics, that’s a smart thing to do, whatever’s better for the channel and the viewers. Great job!
What was the actual flight time?
That was awhile ago now. Don't recall exact time, but it was certainly longer than 15mins because the entire video was shot on one battery.
Good Video. Thanks. When these $100 drones add a really good camera the $1000 drones may be in trouble.
$1000 drones cost so much partly because they have a gimbal & a really good camera. These two things are expensive, at least for now.
Hubsan Zino is here. Three axis gimbal. Amazing 4K UHD 30fps camera. All for less than $600.
after flying 5 or 6 min the controller starts to warn by bi bi bi sound then drone stop flying. what is it about?
Sounds like a low battery issue. Either the battery is not getting a full charge, or the battery is not holding the full charge.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 which battery ? remote's or drone's because the drone battery is %80 and the remote has 4 full duracell
HiHope you can help, will my Huawei J7 wifi 802.11, b/g/n work this drone. Thanks
you probably know by now but no it won't
my transmitter for the sx812 beeps four times and flashes the red light fast and the drone lands itself automatically i cant see anything about this on the manual can someone help me??
Not sure what the issue is. Usually red light flashing is low battery or a problem (i.e., Compass/GPS).
CAPTAIN DRONE Thanks, I was using old batteries; I’ll buy some new ones and update you soon.
Very nice quad, its a little light but nonetheless a very good performer for sure.👍 Thanks for sharing. ✌
Hallo from greece you have review for xiaomi mi drone 4k thank you
Hello. I have not reviewed that drone yet.
Dji Tello or this???
Visuo why, the tello not have gps
NFLGAMING _180 Get this. Looks great. Flies great. It got gps
The batery is better and the cam too
Think I could mount a GoPro on this?
Might be too heavy.
I have 4G connection on Android S9 will it work?
Cool drone
Good video. How’s your drone racing flying going by the way? :)
It could be better if I had more flying time. Too busy filming other videos. I do have a video this week coming up regarding FPV.
Cool guy nice drone.
For 126 bucks seems great. Better bang for buck than the tello you think?
Plenty more features than the Tello, and this one can fly in the wind.
I would spend a little more and get a bugs 5W
Thanks for the very entertaining review. Really interesting. Can't remember whether you mentioned price.
Under $100 US.
No brushless motors, no buying. It's that simple.
When this video was made, brushless motors were very expensive. Now they are inexpensive.
I can't get my android phone to find the WiFi. Its works with our 5g router but won't find this. And my missus I-phone finds it no problem. Its a Samsung note 3 with the correct WiFi but android 5 OS I think
It could be the old Note 3 is the problem, especially if newer phones connect.
Check if your phone has 802.11 Ac 5g WiFi. Not all phones has that wifi
It ’s cool, drone.
I think Thats better Than The Tello
only thing i dint like was you could see the propeller
BE WARNED!!! Do not fly these more than 2 battery changes in a row without letting them cool down. The very weak plastic motor supports distort and cause all kinds of problems. Found out the hard way after this happening twice to me. easy enough to change out the arm housings, but its easier still to just let them cool off a bit. Other than that they are a fun, fast, and cheap little GPS quad.
Very good review my freind
Poppers visible in video. That sucks
That was my fault. I left the camera pointing straight forward, so when the drone tilts forward to fly forward, you get the props. If I would have tilted the camera down slightly, on flown higher, all would have been ok.
Nice.....
Not bad for the price
ผมซื้อจากร้านAynshop กากครับเอาของพังมาขายกล้องใช้ไม่ได้No Wi-Fi บินได้ไม่กี่วันมอเตอร์พัง
Well it seem very silent
less than $100, that is pretty impressive.
and they just keep updating the original 809. first it got alt hold. then it got an increased flying time with a better battery and cool shark paint job. and now it has gps. I wouldnt be surprised if they shoehorned brushless in there next.
Yet it landed closer too the landing pad than your first try with the Mavic 2 pro. Lol
This is true... so sad.
PLEASE HELP DRONE NOT WORKING WITH ANDROID (9.0
During the whole video you seemed like you were expecting the worst, trying to make it fail, knocking / doubting it's features before even trying them. You know a lot about drones so the acting dumb about the features was a bit off putting.
I was impressed by the drone and it's performance. I was not impressed by your review. Seemed a little biased.
That beeping is the sound of a drone telling you not to watch small children with drones.
These cheap drones are interesting but man the camera quality is always awful. 2004 camera phone awful. I guess people buy them for kids.
I found out after I created the video that you can pull the camera module straight out of the drone and insert a Micro SD card. Once you do that, video improves massively. The video show in this review was recorded at 720p on my cell phone. If you use a Micro SD card, it goes up to a clear 1080p.
Priceless information
Again, just my 2 cents though. ;)
:)
Sir..sorry I asked, if it is difficult to get spare parts such as four arms along with four motors and gears
for this visuo xs812, are the spare parts of visuo xs809 and visuo xs816 compatible with visuo xs812?
