Silverstone is holding out on you lol. This is why you have to come to Taiwan for Computex this year! You get to see all the cases you didn't know existed.
During COVID, I built my first hardline watercooled gaming rig with a 10900K and a 3080. Since then my wife and I have welcomed our first child and I really don't have the time or desire to play games anymore, yet I can't bring myself to sell the system or part it out. Been looking into homelab stuff recently instead, and this video might've given me the motivation I need to turn it into a liquid-cooled home server.
As long as I get to see rack mounted content, I'm ok with what ever you build. All my systems are rack mounted too. So far in my rack is a 4U threadripper workstation, a 4U 20 bay media server, and a 2U R720 for my blue iris and home automation. This is all in a 25U startech so I have plenty of room for each system to have its own UPS, a 3U parts drawer, and space left over.
Fantastic video. Love a functional system. Rack mount cases are the ticket. No bling, all horsepower. New Threadripper in the other RM52 would be awesome. Keep up the great videos.
Reminds me of all those HP blade servers I used to install back in the days. Lucky we had a metal workshop as I had to modify the metal card support bracket to fit a massive custom built 24 output Matrox Video Card. 😁😁
I got the RM41-H08 4U, which houses my TR 3960 with 128GB DDR4 3200, 1000W Thor, EVGA 3090 FTW, and all Noctua fans in my rack. Uses the same rails, and yes, they are fantastic.
Epic stuff bro! I just built a shiny new 7800X3D/7800XT gaming rig, and I'm about to transplant my dusty old 8700k system into a Silverstone RM41-H08 chassis. I went with that chassis because I'm actually fitting it to a network rack, not a full-depth server rack. So unfortunately I had to omit the rails, and instead, I've fabricated a box-steel bracket with some adhesive foam and bolted that across the back inside of the rack for the back of the chassis to rest on, right above my nifty 1U draw 😁👍
That's actually a legitimately cool idea! The Startech rack I'm using has adjustable depth and I'm using it at almost the shortest depth at around 64cm. I also didn't want a full depth rack and the RM52 is a short depth case as well. I have an older Silverstone RM316 which is full depth that I'm glad I didn't decide to put in this rack. It's in another one elsewhere.
I'd love a Startech but they are pricey. The network rack I got is an APC 13RU for $200 off marketplace, it has a backdoor that can mount to a wall and the whole chassis can swing to the side. Great saving there, now I just need to save up for the 5-drives I intend to chuck into it 😁👍
shout out MWAVE!! they where the people I chose to get my 4060ti 16gb card from and when I placed the order they fixed the shipping address issue the moment I called them about it despite always only buying at UMART and they are gonna be my go to retailer for all my PC hardware
Another excellent video! I've been considering a 1/2 rack for my WAH office to include all my tech and clean up my workspace(s). Spicey price but justifiable, will be ordering tonight!
"FINALLY!" there is a proper video on this case. I looked at this quite a while to built a workstation. Not even rack mounting it. But it seems to have zero BS design to me. Like airflow is just a single direction and you can fit dual 360 radiators. As I plan to have one GPU and accelerator(s) in my next workstation built and might end up with some of them water cooled. one question: do both orientations (upside down) also work in the desktop/standing orientation? Only to see that SilverStone now announced 6U chassis... And they almost cost the same. It's not cheap at all - but all steel so it should last 2 decades.
"Oh, that's a nice case. Lemme check how much it costs." "Ok, nevermind." I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a PC case when it's going in the basement.
Super duper dope 4U server rack case. I honestly prefer 3U but 4U will no doubt accept way more easily any large GPU 🔥🚀 Price is indeed quite high though sadly.
I have really been looking at purchasing two of these cases for my own set up. Trying to consolidate and move both my gaming and work/editing/encoding system into rack mount chassis and this might be just what I need. I am curious about the custom loop support for this case, particularly for mounting a pump/res combo perpendicular to the mobo. Worst case scenario I can get DIY with the drill, but If I can utilize predrilled holes that would be ideal. Maybe those unused drive sled holes? Thanks for inspiring me further on this project. Love the insight as always.
@@GearSeekers That might be a good option. I will have to measure the current height of my corsair pump/res combo and determine whether that clears the Z axis height you mentioned for air coolers. It's not the tallest unit, but certainly not the shortest either. Ideally I'd like to have the pump mounted in it's normal orientation to A. avoid leaks B. make filling the loop much easier without trapped air. Thanks again for the suggestion and showing off this awesome piece of hardware.
Not necessarily a server thing, but I'd like to see a new HTPC style case that can fit a high-end PC (the usual contents: EATX mobo, RTX 4090, 360mm AIO, multiple drives, lotsa front I/O ports, etc.) I use an O11D Evo XL now but back then I really preferred HTPCs for my personal rig. Nearly all HTPC cases now are missing features here and there which keeps me from moving my desktop build into one, which is a shame.
Could you stress test the GPU in a higher slot and compare it to where you have it installed right now? Would be interesting to see how much air intake is being compromised by having it so close to the chassis wall
"But wait, there's more!" Silverstone Tech has always made superior quality PC chassis and they create new unique concepts instead of just copy-cat other manufacturers like most companies do and the specifications they list are correct, just be prepared to pay commercial prices for commercial products not consumer priced. They used to design CPU air coolers to specifically fit into their PC cases also.
super curious and really want one of those workstations. although i know i don't have any particular use for it. hahahaha glad you made time to make a video about this. so that we would know the feel of building into one of these behemoth systems! curious about what you use that for? like maybe when i get the budget, can i actually utilize one? i mean i'm not a programmer, heavy creatives, or animator.
I've been considering something like this, in the hopes that the Dell R240 I picked up from work (that is only 1RU and has 40mm fans) could be transplanted into a larger case that fits larger fans... 🤔
Build the ultimate cloud gaming PC in the new case! Water cooled CPU and maybe even GPU (can use AIOs for ease of use) and then ANYTIME you want to game you can just stream the high end rig to a TV, handheld, chromebook, steam link, or anything else EITHER using moonlight or maybe Parsec. You could ALSO do that build in your OLD case if you want to put a Threadripper in the other RM52. The advantage to the rack mounted gaming PC? It can act as a steam cache for your benchmarks and games for new builds to speed up downloads or transfers, it will centralize your save files for games so that they are always their no matter what service you ae using the save will be there. And you can stream that rig to almost ANY device and have full access... even over the internet away from home. Parsec will give FULL access to the host machines desktop WITH low latency either on a local network OR remote.
Could probably also just add a GPU to the threadripper or Xeon and spin up a virtual machine for gaming... but it won't be the same as a bare metal rig. Not to mention anti-cheat for some games doesn't like VMs
I've been looking for a rack mount case for my next PC for a while. Nothing has felt like it would fit the bill until I came across this video. Would you know if any other cases that can compete with Silverstone's offerings? They seem to be somewhat unique right now.
I use the Sliger Designs CX4150a 4U chassis for my HTPC in my A/V rack. Also holds a 360mm radiator, looks great and is a bit cheaper in price than the Silverstone offerings.
Build with the current threadripper hardware you have. Promote re-using hardware that you already have and getting the most out of it compared to buying new and new. As long as it suits your needs though.
I ended up transplanting my Threadripper Pro editing system into the other RM52 to fill out the rack. I think I might try upgrade to TR7000. I have a few TRX50 boards I just need a CPU :)
Looks like RM51 is more optimised for air cooling and custom water cooling. Using 2 fractal design 180mm fans in front of the case with alphacool 180x2 radiator.

Definitely enjoyed this video. Do they make a generic NAS type option where it's little more than external hard drives for the server? I've had to change out my NAS twice now because they no longer support it and always run into problems since I'm trying to run Plex through the NAS. After this video I'm really close to wanting to make a server, but would need some way to come up with a NAS alternative. Would love to see you go through the whole build process including deploying software for this once you get that far!

Epic case and something I've been interested in a while. I'd love to build something like this and tuck it away into the basement with all the other network and cabling in the house. But, any idea on how I would go about connecting to something like that? Or was your use case in this build having it tucked inside of a server case but still in the same room as the user.
For my use case the 12U Rack sits next to my desk. It ends up saving space in my office rather than having to PCs on the floor. It also allows me to put my 10GbE switches that I use in the rack as well as the M.2 10GbE/TB4 NAS I use for editing as well. You can put it in the basement and run fiber up to where you want to use the machine with a Thunderbolt dock. That would do all your USB, Display etc. If you're interested I could do a video about it. I'd have to get my hands on some gear but might be an interesting video :)
@@GearSeekers , I'm absolutely interested but don't know if it makes a lot of sense. I haven't built a PC in years so the idea of sticking it down in the basement ensured that my home office was silent and free of fan / pump noises. Linus did something on this years ago where he ran like a 50ft TB2 cable between the server case and his office.
If I'm running 1 360mm radiator for my cpu, and then have another 360mm of fans (no rad) for more more intake to get to my GPU and NICs, would it be a good idea to have the CPU rad on the upper scoop or is that a bad idea?
Does this case accept hard 3.5 hard drive cage or other accessories like dvd drive? Is there a way to install it. I'm looking for a rack mountable workstation for home but not many videos on this case.

Have myself 4U rackmounted case for my gaming pc. This silverstone model looks cool and seems perfect only issue with it is that it is damn expensive. almost 600 euros at europe. You can get proper 4U case for less than 100€. These gaming rack cases are cool but way too expensive. You are better to buy budget 4U case and save the money. Even the case would be long term
@@djvincon basically unbranded model of RSV-L4500U Rosewill 4U case. Technically the same case with different cheaper branding with minor differences. Bought it before covid when prices were normal. Got it like 80 something euros. Only issue is that you cannot fit full height cpu cooler like NH-D15 to it. Its bit too short. Thou NH-D12L fits its nicely and gives about similar cooling performance compared to NH-U12A example.
Hello, can you please explain how your windows 11 booted like that? it's like your taskbar icons bounced or loaded one at a time at a fast pace. Is this like a wallpaper engine thing or what?
@@GearSeekers No it does not. That was an animation of some sort. Go on 20:51 the taskbar flashed and went from left to right in a split second. Mine comes up as it is without any flashing or movement..

I vote for a new TR7000 pro system with U.2 NVMe please :-)
Nice build.
Hi Nick, Great Video. I have been wanting to build a system like yours. How can I communicate with you offline. Thanks, Ric
Rack mount = awesome!
That server chassis is amazing. I should’ve waited to buy this one instead. SMH
Look useful if I want to install both cpu aio and gpu aio (like msi 3090)
Looks cool
Thunderbolt integration with Threadripper please
Do you regret not using a high end AIO, such as Silverstone’s XE360-4677?
Not at all. I did ask Silverstone for one but they are out of stock at the moment. I may swap it out if it becomes available
@@GearSeekersI’m curious about that cooler/case/cpu combo…
show us it all!!
It's cool but too expensive for me :(
I love this case, but can it fit 2x 4090 non liquid cooled? Someone please do this build
cant wait your next video
please make video also with rm52 with threadripper!
But wait. There's more!
how the hell is this metal box £500
do both but keep the newer hardware in the case.
What case do you use?
@@djvincon basically unbranded model of RSV-L4500U Rosewill 4U case.
Technically the same case with different cheaper branding with minor differences. Bought it before covid when prices were normal. Got it like 80 something euros.
Only issue is that you cannot fit full height cpu cooler like NH-D15 to it. Its bit too short. Thou NH-D12L fits its nicely and gives about similar cooling performance compared to NH-U12A example.
I made Dante's words mine: What a hell is that?
But does Bindi approve?
What a ton of fun! :D
Hello, can you please explain how your windows 11 booted like that? it's like your taskbar icons bounced or loaded one at a time at a fast pace. Is this like a wallpaper engine thing or what?
Thats just how Windows 11's desktop comes up.
@@GearSeekers No it does not. That was an animation of some sort. Go on 20:51 the taskbar flashed and went from left to right in a split second. Mine comes up as it is without any flashing or movement..
@@Ladioz It absolutely does. It does it on all my Windows 11 machines.
Water cooling build :)
put an overclocked threadripper inside
"Thanks for the video! I really appreciate the design of server cases. As someone with a mobile DJ side hustle, I prefer rack-mounted setups. I'm currently searching for a case for my next flight simulator project. The RM52 has everything I need, but it's a bit too pricey and large for my liking. Can anyone recommend other server or rack-mountable cases that can fit an ATX motherboard, a 280 or 360 AIO cooler, and a large 4080 GPU? Thanks, everyone! - Gear Seekers
How would we power 4 blower style GPUs? There is not space for two PSUs
Yes there is. You can run a dual redundant server PSU or a regular PSU and an SFX PSU
still trying to find something like that, but 4u
They do have the RM44 which we covered last year.

how long until rack mount are the new mainstream PC building meta.
make a video transferring the old stuff, then make one when you get new stuff
She's a beauty!
