This looks awesome, can't wait to see the diamond in it. I've been playing around with ideas for a build for my own diamond and this has definitely given me some inspiration and motivation!
Yeah me too. Unfortunately though due to Covid lockdown I can’t get the mesh for the top for a while 😢 if you jump on my Facebook page I have put up a photo of the fake plants I have put in it now.

Does the pointing also waterproof and seal the background/cage? I was thinking to use drylok for a few coast then add the pointing or would that just be a waste? Awesome job though man! Wonderful build. I’ve watched all your videos in the last few days lol
Yeah mate it’s waterproof enough that you don’t need to seal it. It will eventually absorb water when under water constantly. It’s only available in Australia also, we don’t have dryloc here but I have used waterproofing as first lets over the foam for constant water areas then coat with pointing.
In this video there’s nothing holding it in but now I have the top mesh in place I have screwed it through the mesh at the top and skewed screws in the bottom also
For cutting the expanding foam yes. I find it cuts quicker than the hot wire cutter. For the green insulation foam I use the hot wire because the knife tends to tear it’s way through leaving rough cuts
No it’s 16mm mdf. But 16mm form ply will work better. I had all intentions of waterproofing the entire inside so I wasn’t concerned with which product I used and I had better buying power for mdf. If it wasn’t my own enclosure I’d use form or marine ply for sure.

I can do without the music, it hits you in the ears link a train whistle. turn it down a lot because i have to turn up your Voise then mash the mute as soon as the music comes on. it is very distracting to the tutorials
Did you use Dunlop slate grey tile pointing? My slate grey looks and feels gritty/also flakes after it dries, is that normal? This is my first time doing a background hence sorry for the silly question. Also would you seal the background eventually with pond sealer?
Yeah mate in the first coat it was slate grey with water, second coat was also slate grey but I added some oxides to change the colour and third coat was half sand pointing and half slate grey to lighten the colour a bit more. Never heard or seen the pointing flaking off send me a message through my Facebook page and I can assist you more.

Hi Cam, when you are adding the oxide to weather the rock and add depth are you adding it dry or doing another thin wet coat with the oxide in it?
I mix it with water to make it more runny so it’s more of a paint than hard coating

Do you prefer a regular knife to a hot knife? If so, why?

What's the blue Styrofoam called???
It’s an insulation foam panel. Not sure on the technical term for it. Company that makes it is “Bastion”
