    Part 1: • Darryl Strawberry on G...
    --------
    Former professional baseball player Darryl Strawberry said he stands by his comments on athletes mixing politics with sports. He had previously told athlete Colin Kaepernick to "leave the politics alone as far as your job" and "do your job and play sports." Strawberry has faced backlash for perceived attempts to silence athletes speaking out on social and political issues. However, he explained his comments stemmed from understanding sports careers are short and political stances can impact those careers. He cited Kaepernick's absence from football after his public protest as evidence. Strawberry also shared his pride in his children's professional sports and college careers, stating he didn't want them "to get lost" in the lifestyle. Despite his children's successes, he was most proud of them for obtaining college degrees, something he did not achieve.

    Being from the Bay Area, there is a big misconception regarding Colin Kapernick. There were already whispers within the organization about wanting Kapernick out. The fans also wanted him out they no longer stood behind him. There really wasn't any love lost when Colin left among 49ers fan or the organization. What Colin didn't realize was how to play the game with the very people holding the bag, mainly the owners. Once Colin started causing trouble, his career was essentially over. Colin was trying to be on a level of 2pac Mutulu Shakur, Afeni Shakur, Huey Newton, George Jackson, Mario Savio, Malcom X , Martin, and various others leader ( but he lacked insight into the fight of civil rights and knew nothing of what those before us fought for). Had Colin did his research, he would have understood he was way out his league. He lacked the for sight, charisma, social awareness, and ability to lead. Everyone can run for president, but only one person can win. In order to win, you have to be able to connect with and read the room. Colin miss read the room and never understood the assignment.

We didn't care whether he stayed or not. To be clear, his on the field antics were a distraction. All black peopledont look alike or agree. Colin was out of his damn mind with that BS on the field. Colin would have been more effective had he talked about being given up for adoptionand being raised in a good middle class family with white parents. Colin had a place to stay, a good education, was never hungry, and by all accounts had a great life. So what did Colin know about the stuggle of the inner city. He knew absolutely nothing.

      I think he thought the majority would be on board with his thoughts, only to find out that the majority were against him. And once the majority realized how numerous they were, it became acceptable to speak against Kaepernick's stance. Basically agreeing with police brutality. I also think Kaepernick thought he would have more support from owners and management in general. I think the owners saw what he was saying as being bad for business, because the majority didn't agree. The people who didn't agree or like what he was doing/saying are the same people who buy tickets to games. "Ticket purchasing fans" voiced their feelings and it was a wrap. Ownership is not going to allow a player's opinion, stance on a political subject affect ticket sales, aka their pockets... I personally agreed with his position on police brutality, just though his efforts were misguided and misunderstood...

      Muhammad Ali and Jim Brown won with their politics, that's their thing, they don't want black people in charge of passing policy because it goes against their interests to control them, they have laws that protect gay people, Asians, trans, no anti lynching laws, hell, they voted to keep Harriet Tubman off the $20 bill.

    Kaepernick arguably has made more money after protest than he would have otherwise, if money is the only measurement of success, which it isn't. Also Kaepernick's name and legend has grown exponentially even if you don't like him. Personally I agree with his protest and I think he should have went to play CFL. Oh well, I wish I had Kaep's bag tho.

    If you're gonna springboard off sports to make a social message, you better be good. And if you look at Kaepernick's stats in games close to the end of his career, they were some of the worst stats I ever saw from an NFL starting QB ever. I agree his mouth stopped him from getting looks from other teams, which isn't right. If not for that, he'd likely have gotten a 2nd, 3rd, and even a 4th chance.

    • @user-jg5ez8wn5l
      @user-jg5ez8wn5l 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @bennylevine387
      @bennylevine387 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-jg5ez8wn5l I'll grant you that is a nice TD-to-INT ratio. I didn't realize it was that good. And like I said, he was robbed of a chance to land with another team. But averaging 200 yards a game isn't gonna work, nor is launching protests when you win 4 of your last 24 starts with the team. But I hear you. I'm just saying if you go look at some individual games in between his little spike-weeks, there were a large handful of putrid games in there.

      The fact that you comment does not have 1000 likes shows that people are so uneducated and will accept anything as the truth. The song never represented us as a people and never will. And there is one line in that song that proves it. The line that states “In the land of the free”. The song was created in 1815 from a poem, and the United States did not free slaves until 1865. And that fact is always lost in these type of discussions. Fact are facts!!! The only way that I would truly rally around something would be that it was originally meant for me.

However, similar to Muhammad Ali, Kapernick knew that there is a price to pay for standing up to the powers that be! And in regards to the National Anthem, it was written by a racist slave owner, and the 3rd stanza refers to slaves being killed if they choose to fight on the side of the British!
