Some more Easter egg lore that I haven’t seen talked about yet, the doctors in the “shock therapy” scene are Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles who were in the Dead Poets Society movie which was also released in 1989. Taylor fondly refers to the dead poets as “colleagues from down the hall”
As a GenX music maniac, and writer/poet....I wept with gratitude for the Dead Poets nod. What a surprising homage to lovers of lyrics/poetry/written word...
SO, here's a quick rundown of the lore, Taylor Swift was with Joe Alwyn (Not who this song is about) for 6 years, not long after they broke up she was with Matty Healy (who the song is about) for a, you guessed it, fortnight, now she was very fresh out of the 6 year relationship and Matty Heally can be seen as the "mirical move on drug" but then that ended pretty ugly, so the song Fortnight was born
@michelekanda703 I don't agree I think fortnight is about Joe and the relationship metaphor about Matty in this song is the miracle move on drug. I totally see why people think it's about that and it's totally up for interpretation of course.
@@Anna-Rose-hiii a bridge is the part in a song when the melody is a bit different and it might be before the last chorus, key change etc. in Fortnight it's Posts part 😎 so not a swiftie term per se but a music thingy
also when she is getting electrocuted, its a reference to Clara bow (the person and the song that is on her new album) because Clara bow got shock therapy
Yes to an entire album reaction, I would literally love nothing more!!!! Advice in advance though, especially for a reaction I highly advise listening in two sittings(or a few songs at a time in order? if you wanted multiple videos and your adhd is better at fixating on a few songs at a time lol)!!! The Original TTPD then The Anthology a separate day... 31 is hard to digest all at once. Oh and also have genius lyrics open (even if you don't want to break down every line and be there for days... it helps a lot and I would love to hear your vocal and lyrical thoughts!!!!)
This song is similar to Snow On The Beach in the role of the feature. While Post’ voice isn’t spotlighted, his tone adds so much depth to the background vocals and ad libs. I’m sure there are fans that are CRAVING some verses from Post (I wouldn’t be mad either), but I’m very happy with the song.
@@sandrajayandranfr like I don’t really think I’ve ever listened to any of his songs really but his voice in this song was amazing I would love to see him on some more songs of hers
This is how Taylor described Fortnight: "This is a song that I think really exhibits a lot of the common themes that run throughout this album, one of which being fatalism, longing, pining away, lost dreams. I think that it's a very fatalistic album in that there are lots of very dramatic lines about, you know, life or death, "I love you, it's ruining my life," these are very hyperbolic, dramatic things to say. But it's that kind of album. It's about a dramatic, artistic, tragic kind of take on love and loss. And Fortnight, I've always imagined that it took place in this American town where the American Dream you thought would happen to you didn't, right? You ended up not with the person that you loved, and now you have to just live with that every day, wondering what would've been, maybe seeing them out, and that's a pretty tragic concept, really. So I was just writing from that perspective."
One of my favourite interpretations of this song is that it's not literally about a two week relationship, but sort of like an imagining of a future long after her breakup with someone she was with for a long time where the six years they spent feels like two weeks compared to the time after their break-up they spent apart, and while I'm not a fan of partenity testing her songs there's some good evidence to support that it's about joe bc the bridge about moving to florida could be a reference to how the breakup was announced right after the arlington shows before she performed in florida, and the time in between the two shows is roughly two weeks or a fortnight
This is my interpretation as well! It feels very much set in the future and how looking back on relationships they can seem so short and yet have such an effect!
Hi! I can explain some things, but honestly, looking ast Genius is the best way to know things! First thing: the first lines of this song are "I was supposed to be sent away but they forgot to come and get me". And the last song on Midnights, Hits Different, ends up with : "I heard your key turn in the door down the hallway Is that your key in the door? Is it okay? Is it you? Or have they come to take me away? To take me away" So you're totally right when you say that it's a continuation of Midnights, and this lyrics show it well! Now, about the lore behind this song, well it's theorized to be about Matty Healy, lead singer of The 1975. They dated briefly, and while it didn't last just a fortnight, it was really short, and it emphasize on that. Also, on the music video, two of the scientists are Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, who played in the movie Dead Poets Society. When Taylor announced the title of the album, this movie was the only thing people could think of! xD And I think that's all I wanted to say. Genius will tell you more if you're interested and I would absolutely love a reaction to the whole album!!
if you do end up doing the whole album, listen to it in parts! you'll get fatigue trying to listen to all 31 songs in one sitting. at least split it in half by standard album/anthology and give yourself AT LEAST a couple hours, if not a full day. it's a very dense album lyrically once you start noticing what she's saying lol
I’m so excited for you to listen to the album due to her vocals 🙌🏻 she has so much fun and really uses all her range in such unique beautiful ways in ways I feel she hasn’t and really using her lower register in such beautiful ways! Ahh chills 🙌🏻
YESSS Thank you! Please do the entire album, I love how seriously you take Taylor's songwriting and I think you would have some great insight into the other songs.
I've got your back girl! This song is really confusing at first, but it makes sense when you read what Taylor had to say about it: "This is a song that I think really exhibits a lot of the common themes that run throughout this album, one of which being fatalism, longing, pining away, lost dreams. Honestly I think you hit the mark with what you’re saying about Taylor thinking in song lyrics and making intentional choices in her own music. I appreciate that way more than looking into the lore lol. Would love a full reaction of the album for sure!
Taylor processes through music & storytelling. My unhinged Taylor take is that Folkmore aren’t the only partially fictional albums. Mary’s Song, Love Story, Mine, How You Get the Girl, Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince, The Great War, But Daddy I Love Him - throughout her career, she’s shared powerful stories & not all of them are biographical or literal. A few hours before she announced “The Tortured Poets Department” at the Grammys in February, Swift’s official website had went dark and read the message: Error 321 Backend fetch failed Backend fetch failed hneriergrd That last one is an anagram for red herring. People thought it was because they expected a reputation TV announcement & she announced a new album instead, which is valid. But I think the whole album is a red herring. The names & details were changed to protect her privacy. For example, I don’t think The Black Dog is about the literal bar. She changed the name for good reason. The bar has been reviewing their security footage trying to find when she went & with whom! I expect any business to market Taylor named in her song, but reviewing the footage crosses a line to me. I think A LOT of this album is about the masters heist. Look at the visuals for the Smallest Man on Earth on the Eras Tour. Look at her references to the Lover era. The masters heist rusted her sparkling summer. All that to say, I would love, love, LOVE for you to review the full album. I need to hear you react to loml, The Smallest Man Alive, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?, The Black Dog, & How Did It End? You could do it as a 2 part series: TTPD & the Anthology.
The vocals on his album are actually super interesting, so I would *love* a reaction to the whole thing! Maybe in 2 parts tho, because its a looong album
Hiii I'm such a fan of all your videos!! I was wondering if you've heard of "Epic: the musical" and if you could make a video of it... right now the songs are still coming out (they're being released in sections/sagas) but the most recent one is the end of Act 1. the musical is about the Odyssey, having "The Troy Saga" at the beginning with 5 songs: 1. The horse and the Infant 2. Just a man 3. Full speed ahead 4. Open arms 5. Warrior of the mid It's a GREAT musical and there are many animations made by fans that can help you see the story instead of only hearing it So, please PLEASE react to it!!
Would love a full album review! But also - would love to see a vocal review of her TTPD set in the eras tour if you can find videos, especially for who’s afraid of little old me.
I haven't finished the album yet, but yeah the songs don't feel vocally as showing as her previous songs, but man the vibes? The vibes are so freaking vibing it's insane.
Since I heard this song, I've been listening to it nonstop. I really love the melody. I don't listen to Post Malone but I absolutely love him singing the bridge. His voice goes so well with Taylor's. I would be down to hearing him in more of her songs.
My take on the lore: So in hits different, the last song of midnights, she says have they come to take me away and in fortnight, the first song of TTPD, she’s taken away to a psych ward. She took the move on drug, maybe Matty, but it didn’t work. I think the song is about reflecting about a past love that was hers and isn’t anymore and they are good neighbors now in the future like everyone has moved on and it’s been years but she’s not over him or the fact that he’s living this happy life with a wife without her. And then at the end! She kinda wears a similar dress to what she wore to a New Years party with Travis and people think when Post is in the phone booth his jacket looks a lot like Travis’s so maybe that’s him reaching out and she reaches back out. But ya I think the song is about her being abandoned by men who claim to love her but never commit to her fully.
Btw to answer your question, I believe she was talking about maddie from the 1975 that she spent time with for two weeks! (I think bc my moms like a superfan of the 1975 and said he loved type writers sooo)

oh my gosh Hannah YES do the whole album with the Anthology! The LORE for just this song alone, let alone the album itself is wild. Her and Joe Alwyn were together for 6 years. Once they broke up, Taylor and Matty Healy from The 1975 started dating but it didn't last long (for a fornight) and ended very badly as you will learn with other songs in the album. To prepare you for the whole album, each song is connected to the song prior, you'll notice a pattern of words or places and other things that she will use that were used in the previous song, connecting them all together as if they were chapters of the same exact book, different poems for her anthology. Fortnight is the opener to give us a first glance of this onion she's going to peel the layers back of with each song in this anthology of an album. I'd genuinely argue that this album is her best work and most vulnerable work yet. She holds nothing back and lets it all out for everyone to see as if she is genuinely just handing us her diary and saying "here you go." So excited to see your reactions for the other songs! And vocally, I truly think you're going to like 'Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me', 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived', 'My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys' (A very specific part of the choruses I know you'll probably enjoy), 'The Black Dog', 'Guilty As Sin?', 'But Daddy I Love Him', 'So Long, London', and 'Florida!!! (feat. Florence + The Machine)...basically the whole album but those songs and their vocals are beautiful in so many different ways!
