    Loads of manufacturers of offroad expedition vehicles have crawl through access to the cab including thos who use MAN. Action Mobil, Unicat, Bliss Mobil, Ziegler, Bimobil, EXCAP and there's loads more. You'd really want a crawl through if you're on the Serengetti and there's a load of lions outside your camper.
    Same if there's some bandits hanging around trying to get in.

      Agreed. Exactly the same as I was thinking. It's easy to remedy, though. That small kitchen sink should be moved to the corner at the right and should be a lot bigger--maybe the same size as the farmhouse sink. Then the area should become a full-time counter that can be folded to reveal a door going into the cab, and then unfolded when being used while cooking.
      They sure could improve its next version.
      Another major improvement that they should put in, I think, is the installation of floodlights all over the sides of the roof that could be switched on remotely using a key fob. These are very important, especially at night when there are suspicious individuals poking outside and trying to get in. Another important securiy add-on should be a glass-beak alarm.
      Also, I am not sure if there are seatbelts at the dinette; if not, they could install four seatbelts at the two benches (two for each bench). I really love the roof terrace, which is great for star gazing as well as watching the sunset and sunrise. And I like the mini office, especially its steel cabinet--what a great storage for documents, cameras, and lenses.
      Cheers, everyone.

    Andew Australian Manufacturers are heavily into Off Road. There are about 10 manufacturers of Off Road Motorhomes SLR Motorhomes being similar to the Crawler, 54 Manufacturers of Off Road Caravans and about 15 builders of campertrailers

    Totally utilitarian..i could easily envisage the interior from office cabinets shackled to a man truck going down a storm as the new Chelsea tractor.. London would never look the same!.. but for €300+ thousand you expect a lil more.. luxury/ refinement.. sleeps 6.. but only seats 4 i guess lol.. informative as always cheers!!

    Composting toilets are great in that you don't have to mess with them nearly as often. Well, you have to remove the pee, as we produce a lot of that, but the main compartment can go weeks or a month, depending. And it's just less disgusting, the cassette toilets with mixed fluids and solids are kind of icky. Composting toilets, well, you're just pouring something that looks and smells like soil into a bag. Definitely something I'd get. Unless I was rich, then I'd get the Cinderella incinerator, but that's something like 5 grand in euros.

    If you're going to visit the Australian Outback save your money and buy an expedition caravan when you arrive from one of the 100 local Australian manufacturers whose caravans are immeasurably more practical and robust for half the money. I think Australia and probably Africa have the best testing grounds for creating the best off grid RV's. In my street there must be an off-road caravan at every third house. They're everywhere. It's what we do best

    Thank you for these impressions of the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2020. Although only half an hour away from where we live in the Netherlands, because of corona my wife and I decided not to go this year. Your impressions filled this gap this year. You showed us for instance the Weinsberg and also your enthusiasm for the layout, pointing out that it was typical 'continental'. We have a Sprite Alpine Sport 2016 with exactly the same layout and also without a shower, but further more the English way, what means for us much more quality and eye for detail. Indeed 5000 euro's more expensive, but value for money!! The dealer where we bought our caravan was also dealer of Sterckeman so we saw the differences between Sterckeman and Sprite.... Sprite the same 5000 more expensive, but also so much more value for money..... The explanation in my view? In Great Britain the weather is (was?) much more uncertain then in France with the beautiful summers especially in the south. So you stay more outside then inside the caravan. Caravans build in GB are better equipped for lower temperatures en rainy summers so more comfortable with for instance a shower and also much better furniture, because you stay much more inside your caravan. Is this a crazy theorie? I hope not :-)))

    • @andrewjditton
      @andrewjditton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think your theory is totally correct Jean! But also I think the British like their big front lounges to watch what is going on outside :)

    Crawler has a cool exterior looks plus roof deck but basically that's about it, the interior kind of reminds me of bimobil except for the bunk bed. Personally I still preferred bimobil 480 interior. but if the two can merged it would be the perfect expedition vehicle for me

    Living on the Costa Del Sol I see a few of these military style 4x4s. Some on there way to or from Africa, and some apparently just being used in Europe. I find them quite attractive, but just the thought of the fuel consumption brings me out in a cold sweat. I guess with my budget I am not their target audience.

Great vid Andrew", Good health to ya""

  • @jamesdecross1035
    @jamesdecross1035 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thoughts on the three vehicles. Note: I jest. I only wish I had the excuses, and the funds! They are all mind-blowing.
    1: Aw, I was gonna take three, but you can't get through to the cab from the living space. I'll just have to keep looking!
    Must be like driving around in a filing cabinet - very hot in the sun, very cold in the snow. What's the insulation like?
    2: A composting toilet, hey… the Global Dry Toilet Association of Finland (yes, there really is one) says it takes a year to fill a dry toilet on land, a then another year to set it aside to decompose, whilst you go and dig a new pit to place your third toilet over. Can't imagine how that'd work in a caravan, especially one without windows.
    For a modern vehicle, I'm surprised at the reliance on gas, with a giant gas locker, and not on solar for an electric supply.
    3: It's a Sanky trailer for a British Army Landrover. It'd be Army Surplus Supplies for me, emulating the Bush Tucker Man.
    Definitely, I liked the trailer tent the most. If going off-road, simply living would be good fun. And, brilliantly indestructible.

    Both those companies can take some useful tips from other manufacturers that build expedition vehicles and offroad campers or trailers, from the southern hemisphere, Their build quality with an all-aluminum or stainless steel is a bit questionable.
    Expedition vehicle Krug from Ukraine is more or less $400K and upwards depending on make and size. Some of your EU companies can provide the same - depends on the depth of your pocket or thickness of your cheque book.
