    Fantastic interview. It's always good hearing from people who are vets in the industry. Especially when they are optimistic, kind and still goin strong creating what they love.

    After a time of depression/anger, I attack life in a new direction. As a teacher I usually got students to address failure/rejection as just a fact of life and that there are always alternatives (Spock reference).

      Excellent. Myself as well. It's always nice to be able to point to pop culture references for students to connect with.

    As you can tell, I'm more into creating television than I do for movies. It doesn't matter what genre (whether it be drama, comedy, action, etc.), I always love to create something for TV. I like to try to make all my shows story-driven and cinematic at the same times. Now if I do work for TV, I would truly love to work for Warner Bros.. Seems like a nice to work. For movies? Definitely Universal (and maybe Lionsgate).

      How many tv scripts have you written? Have done any script contest? One of the interesting ones was by Nickelodeon does an apprenticeship for minority writers. They have you write a spec script for something still on the air from any network.

    • @kenrickbautista6141
      @kenrickbautista6141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gutenbird I've only written 1, but soon, I will do five more. If only I wasn't so busy or gotten lazy.
      And no, I haven't been in any script contests. Kinda wish I was though.

    • @gutenbird
      @gutenbird 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenrickbautista6141 I did one contest for spec tv script. Didn’t win but it was a lot of fun. Actually got to talk to one of the writers or staff who read some of the scripts. He was very nice. I’ve written other stuff but no scripts. It was a good excuse. Also was forced to learn some formatting. I used Final Draft which is helpful but I still had to learn script instruction. Do you have a background in writing such as school. I don’t.

      @@gutenbird that's great! And I did join a film club back in high school. It was fun. Let's just say I have a huge imagination, and I been watching llts of TV and movies, which led to my interest in writing.

    • @gutenbird
      @gutenbird 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenrickbautista6141 Hope it works out. Might have to find another contest just for the challenge. I’m pretty confident I won’t win but there is a cool thought that someone out there is reading something you wrote.

      Depends, sometimes try not to fail the same way again, Immediately get back to it or just shelve it on the ripening shelf.

    I don’t know if I could be a television writer. As an unapologetic perfectionist, I can’t just crank out a script week after week. A film writer, on the other hand, can usually take as much time as they need to write a script. A television series also usually has multiple writers working on it, but personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable letting other writers write dialogue for characters that I created, and if I had to write dialogue for characters that I didn’t create, I would feel artistically stifled. The medium of television has certain advantages, but it doesn’t really seem to correspond with how I work.

      More creative freedom in tv than movies these days because...more outlets. Also covid fears as far as going out. And this desire to constantly be woke and appeal to every country. I feel that movie studios have lost their minds in modern times.

    There’s probably never been a character in a movie or TV show who’s just randomly sneezed or coughed while talking.
