Nobody shut her down, she just missed her outside shots and she still ran the court like the floor general she is, leading both teams in assists and setting a new rookie record plus getting blocked shots and steals. She would have broken Sue Bird’s record of 11 assists too if self-aggrandizing Metoo could make a freaking layup. When Miller wanted to sub her back in for Arike, Caitlin said no, knowing that Arike was hot and she chose to sit out for the team. Clearly they’re cashing in on her popularity. Easy formula: Plaster her face everywhere, mention her in every article and input her in every conversation. However, I don’t think the industry was counting on Angel throwing a monkey wrench in Caitlin’s “historic debut”.
Angel Reese is why Clark is even relevant. Nothing known about clark until she faced Angel. Both angel, Clark, and Arike are a perfect fit. They work well together. Clark is the perfect facilitator.
Skip got it spot on on this one. Caitlin is just missing too much. The game Ogumbuwale had is what everybody was expecting from Caitlin coming into the WNBA. But credit to Caitlin because she is so smart. Outside of the court, in the press conferences, and stuff, she really has not put a foot wrong. She always says the right things every single time and has taken a pretty dismal scoring season in stride, which is incredibly difficult to do, crafted that playmaker role and storyline for herself, with the help of the media, which understandably loves her, and has kept people interested in her. If she has people excited while shooting a paltry 24% from the 3-pt range, imagine if she gets that up to above 40%. But, once again, I cannot stress this enough, credit to her that she is so damn likable that any decent person ought to feel like a villain being harshly critical of her. But if we are being objective, Skip is right, she ought to bring up her scoring efficiency. We'll see what happens after the break. Everyone including herself has made the excuse that she is tired from shooting a lot for the past year. And for her sake, I hope that when they resume, it all works out, and she has shaken off the yips because I love her as well, and I would like to see people guard her the entire court length again like they were in the beginning of the season because she was such a threat.
Caitlin Clarks scoring ability is what was supposed to her main attraction. Now everyone has pivoted to assists which is not a stat that people in the NBA cares about let alone the WNBA. But it's the only stat that they can lean on to proper her up.

I'm sorry, but while what Angel did is not easy how is what Caitlin did easy? Do you realize that Coach Reeve wanted to send different looks and put Caitlin under constant pressure to stop her from getting assists? Getting assists is not that easy. And did you see how difficult at least 3 of the assists were? The ball had to be precisely placed between defender or away from a defender on a break and Caitlin put it there. There was nothing easy about at least some of her assists or that the opposing coach made it a priority to stop them.
At the game and it was off the chain!!!! Craziest half I have ever seen watching Arike just going to another planet!!! That step back 3 was unbelievable . Seeing the Reese affect was something I did not see coming. That girl flat out wants the ball more than anyone and you can just feel an energy when she was in. When Caitlin wins ROTY as we said before the szn started, we have soooo many clips of evidence of how it was forced despite her play. Look at the captions and thumbnails of these articles/vids. If anything, Arike is the only one deserving mention. Then, Rachel keeps hammering that Caitlin is so great and has had to jump on this bandwagon narrative as an elite passer because she can't shoot. The first couple of games, people were mad that Caitlin should've had more assists because her teammates were missing, but ignored that Caitlin clanks it up, too. AB, Kelsey, and NaLyssa obviously showed they helped carry after a few rough games. Now, it's more obvious that her team is scoring more, while she still has the freedom to clank with no judgment this late in the szn and in front of millions, along w the players, at the All Star game. We saw this effect in college and, like then, it simply shows these millions of "random" overnight fans paid for a narrative. They saw her make a couple of 30 footers and ran w a narrative that she was Steph Jr and could be the greatest ever. Mind you, these are the millions that boycotted Nike and sports with the BLM protests. So you know that they will shell out millions in dollars and spend all the time in the world to prove people wrong. She always says the right things every single time and has taken a pretty dismal scoring season in stride, which is incredibly difficult to do, crafted that playmaker role and storyline for herself, with the help of the media, which understandably loves her, and has kept people interested in her. If she has people excited while shooting a paltry 24% from the 3-pt range, imagine if she gets that up to above 40%. But, once again, I cannot stress this enough, credit to her that she is so damn likable that any decent person ought to feel like a villain being harshly critical of her.
But if we are being objective, Skip is right, she ought to bring up her scoring efficiency. We'll see what happens after the break. Everyone including herself has made the excuse that she is tired from shooting a lot for the past year. And for her sake, I hope that when they resume, it all works out, and she has shaken off the yips because I love her as well, and I would like to see people guard her the entire court length again like they were in the beginning of the season because she was such a threat.

Caitlin Clarks scoring ability is what was supposed to her main attraction. Now everyone has pivoted to assists which is not a stat that people in the NBA cares about let alone the WNBA. But it's the only stat that they can lean on to proper her up.

How hard is it to have multiple assists when you're passing the ball to All Stars? Not taking nothing away from her put on passing the ball to the best players in the league I'm going to have a whole lot of assist... I think it's harder for Angel Reese to have a double-double because she's going against the best rebounders in defensive players
I'm sorry, but while what Angel did is not easy how is what Caitlin did easy? Do you realize that Coach Reeve wanted to send different looks and put Caitlin under constant pressure to stop her from getting assists? Getting assists is not that easy. And did you see how difficult at least 3 of the assists were? The ball had to be precisely placed between defender or away from a defender on a break and Caitlin put it there. There was nothing easy about at least some of her assists or that the opposing coach made it a priority to stop them.

At the game and it was off the chain!!!! Craziest half I have ever seen watching Arike just going to another planet!!! That step back 3 was unbelievable . Seeing the Reese affect was something I did not see coming. That girl flat out wants the ball more than anyone and you can just feel an energy when she was in. CC just flows and Pierce said it best that she orchestrated that game. The court opens up differently when she on the court and she takes advantage of that. Fun watching all battles on and off the ball. Best game I have been to!!
When Caitlin wins ROTY as we said before the szn started, we have soooo many clips of evidence of how it was forced despite her play. Look at the captions and thumbnails of these articles/vids. If anything, Arike is the only one deserving mention. Then, Rachel keeps hammering that Caitlin is so great and has had to jump on this bandwagon narrative as an elite passer because she can't shoot. The first couple of games, people were mad that Caitlin should've had more assists because her teammates were missing, but ignored that Caitlin clanks it up, too. AB, Kelsey, and NaLyssa obviously showed they helped carry after a few rough games. Now, it's more obvious that her team is scoring more, while she still has the freedom to clank with no judgment this late in the szn and in front of millions, along w the players, at the All Star game. Here, Rachel has become so desperate, she's had to copy the same weak argument of the CCC-she led votes and has increased viewership exponentially. We saw this effect in college and, like then, it simply shows these millions of "random" overnight fans paid for a narrative. Skips analyses about assists in an All star game is very insightful. Previous games were run and gun style so assists levels would've been low. From 2015 thru 2023 (with the exception of 2021), the games were inconsequential and played like a Globetrotter event.
