That rod stowing trick is really useful when you need to hike between spots in thick brush. Thanks for that MRO!

Every time I have a bad trip - got skunked on the fly this past weekend trip, I always stop and either appreciate the fact I learned something, or learned something else I need to learn more about. At the end of the day outside in the water beats anything else!

You hit the nail on the head! It also makes those epic trips even more enjoyable. Sometimes the hubris kicks in and I start to think that I know what I'm doing. And then mother nature shows up and says, "Not today, bro!"

"That's how salt water fishing goes..." I love that you said. I just spent a week in Belize. 25mph to 30mph winds the entire time. Everything was chopped up. Sargassum everywhere. Barely any tarpon shots. Zero permit seen. I leave, the winds go down and my buddy who showed up the day I left saw dozens of permit. Landed some. Perfect conditions. So it goes.

Great tip on stowing the rod. Thanks! Yeah, I’ve hit windy conditions especially on trips I’ve really looked forward to. At least it wasn’t 25 degrees out!

I was on a business trip between 10 and 15 years ago. It was in the Rio Grande Valley (Texas). I always traveled with my flyrod at the time. I was averaging 200 days a year out of town so all I did was Fly fish on my free time. Long story short, I fished a pier at night after work before one of the hurricanes. The wind was 30-40, I was catching plenty of trout and ladyfish, just having fun. It didn't take a long cast maybe 30-40ft. I ended up hooking myself for the first time ever, in my ear. Last time I fished with a barb. It didn't ruin the fishing trip but the guy that helped pull it almost puked just pushing it through my ear. Good times!

@@JackFalcon871 Hi, So I was referring to not being able to fish due to the weather. Your amped up and ready to go and then it’s called. Instead of complaining you find something else to do. I wasn’t referring to redfish. I am sorry that my comment was confusing to you.

The wind blows 15 to 20 mph every day in October/November when we chase false albacore with fly rods. Never fails!!!
    I feel your pain. Thanks

Good honest video! Definitely been on those trips. We’ve camped on beach every October for 40 years chasing bull reds. Some trips have been tests on our sanity..between 50 mph wind days, or dead calm and unbelievable swarms of mosquitoes. No place I’d rather be though! Thanks Brian and MRO! 👍👌🎣 (first Piggly Wiggly I’ve seen in 50 years..the store, not you Brian.😂🙂).

it’s always a bummer when you plan a trip and you run into this . The only advice I would give is go more often it really increases your odds for a great day , and the rest you just enjoy that your out :-)
