Great informative video Ross! A must see for all those doom and gloomers who really should be educating themselves with the X's and O's instead of throwing tantrums whenever things don't play out to perfection.
We need to see more pressures and stunts (up front) where 1 player takes out 2 offensive blockers, so 1 defensive player is totally freed up. Similarly, we need to see more simulated pressures, which leave offensive linemen blocking air, combined with an overload (or blitz) on the other side, which brings more guys than the opponent can actually block. Bottom line: We have to free up some players on defense, and at the minimum, get at least 1 guy completely free to get into the backfield and make the tackle. This requires coordination between the linemen, the linebackers, (and sometimes) the defensive backs, working together in a coordinated attack.
and most teams are going with short drop and quick throws. Those wide angles won't get to the qb anyway. To the contrary it opens up view for the qb. I think Day's comments about sacks aren't our goals here.
Even a novice fan can see from the tv coverage that Ohio State line is so wide it leaves huge running lanes. By the time the d ends try and arch around the offensive line they are out of the play and with only one Linebacker there is no one to fill the holes. JT got behind the QB several times and was pancaked at least once.
Good analysis The bad running play hero canu got washed down by a Marshall guard they decided to start him but obviously he’s not ready it appeared 95 and 98 did much better
The fact we got studs all over the field on defense and it's year 3 of Jim Knowles defense, I'm surprised he doesn't be exotic in his play calling. That front 4 HAS to win their one on ones. No way we cat get pressure anytime we want
one the first play, Simon screws up, if he goes to the b-gap like he was supposed and the running back cuts to the a-gap, it's a 5 yard gain instead of 10. Simon soft playing it opened the hole where he was supposed to be.
Arvel was out of position sometimes because he was not patient enough. He did it twice on the goal line when Marshall scored the first 7. He also only plays the Mike. He will continue to play. But it's not as clear as everyone is trying to make it seem.
I feel like we are forever “adjusting” to an opponent’s offensive game plan. Our defense is almost always aimed at what we “expect” the other team to do. When will Knowles ever learn that these teams who have nothing to lose will never come in with a predictable game plan that they use for other games? Why is that? We always seem to have our pants down. He’s up in a booth and he should easily be able to see what they’re doing instantly and react accordingly. Isn’t he a guru who has seen it all? We are not the aggressor on defense and we damn well should be. This is the first time in years we have both the experience and the talent. The way this tape was broken down, I cannot blame the kids entirely for this sorry mess. It was a poor game plan and it took too long to adjust out of it. If I were Day, I’d have had a little meeting with Knowles before I blame these players. Any chance Ross could get a job as an assistant? Knowles needs one. 😡
Why are our blue chip recruits are getting blocked up by Marshall? The biggest problem all day was d linemen standing straight up. Where's our dog like that Marshall d end with that spin move that broke Josh Fryar? Our blue chips aren't talented enough to come off the ball and put a spin move on a freaking Marshall o linemen?

great show...thank you
Can we ask LJ why the d ends are so wide? Especially on non-have-to- pass downs
I've been complaining about this every game for several years. I don't see the pros outweighing the cons with this

@whobdis77 yeah. I can see if we have a lead and are trying to avoid a big play but from a base defense concept, I don't get it.
Wow this is crazy good guys 😮
luv the content
- old school pac fan
given the experience..not sure why things are so vanilla. Maybe waiting for conf play but..
Will the OSU defensive coaches see what the problems are and make the necessary changes so they get much better?

X’s and O’s are important but jimmy and joes makes everything good if our d tackle handles there guard it would have been no or little gain
Yeah, JTT has a tendency to shoot way too far upfield and take himself out of plays. Love him and his effort but he's gotta fix that.
JTT does that because he gets manhandled on the line of scrimmage. He does not seem to have Jack Sawyer’s strength.
Had one good game against Penn State. Not too much more than that.
Nice video.

The defense was vanilla in this game I think you will see the exotic play calling this weekend.
@@ammielcoats9762 🤷🤦
@annarborbuckeye95 lmao 🤣 😂 😆 I'm eating crow right now Knowles didn't blitz and Gabriel was cooking.
More more moreeee! I love film studies

am rooting 4 underdog sparty & see osu winning by 60 or 50. msu is already injury-depleted. imo osu offense will look to make a statement.

LOL
Reese in Simon out
ik Marshall nvr threw over the top vs osu but included it in 1 of the jokes (elsewhere down in the comments) for bit purposes only.
psychologist, holding up the osu pass d' doll in front of @tonyG & @tom: "show me on the [osu pass d'] doll where Marshall touched u or hurt u?" 😂
My grammar is not good
LB’s are weak.
[sketch set up::@tonyG speaking]: "@tom, when marshall threw over ur pass d' how did that make u feel?" 😂
Is there anyway that Ross can go to the press conferences and ask these questions? At some point, these schemes will lose a big game.
