i work in the emergency department at a hospital so i’m never home anymore.. watching these make me relax inexplicably, they’re so peaceful to me and i’m deeply grateful for your vlogs!
Hello! I'm from Chile and since 100 years of solitude is a Latin classic it's mandatory reading. I think that one cool aspect of the book which I hadn't really seen before is that Coronel Aureliano Buendia is Márquez's way to represent the solitude of Latin America. At the time, the whole of Latin America was going through many political issues (dictatorships, wars etc) and Aureliano Buendia, as the most politically involved character represents the effects and the solitude that came with all those issues. It's definitely so much fun to try to understand this book even though I'm not an expert :)
I would love to see a video of you talking about your annotations😍 what your colours mean, if you just underline/highlight text or write in the books as well, what you write about (high-brow analytical stuff or stupid little thoughts you may have while reading), what tabs and highlighters and pens you use etc
I finished Wuthering Heights a few days ago and I'm so obsessed! I love it so much so I can't wait for your comments about it. P.S. it's really inspiring to hear that someone loves their university so much. Stay safe
I have spent the evening catching up with your vlogs while knitting a sock and it has been so pleasant. I'm so grateful for your videos during this time. Your voice is so calming and I love how passionate you are about the books you are reading, either loving or hating them.
there was something very heartwarming about seeing you and your brother (I assume?) playing with your dog in the backyard. no phones, no electronics - just being active outside. lovely!
I have only known of this channels existence in the last 3 months but its been such a great time. On that thought I was wondering if after all this you might consider getting a P.O box? Or maybe an amazon wishlist? :) Books in the UK are super cheap, especially classics. Near my university there is a shop called Skoob, despite its name its a haven; too around the rest of bloosmbury there's such great secondhand book shops. I would love to send you some of my favourites to thank you for the entertainment!! P.s the dog is too cute. P.P.s that tumeric tea drink is envious
That is so sweet that you even thought about sending me a book, thank you so much! I do have an amazon book-wish-list, I've just never shared it! I can definitely start putting it in the description of my videos, just felt super shy about leaving it there aha, that is so so kind and wow sounds like you have so many amazing bookstores around you!!
lol the description of the conspiracy board guy meme made me laugh. I'm not colombian, but as a latin american it makes me happy to see people from outside here discovering 100 years of solitude for the first time. :) it's an experience that (imo) is elevated by some knowledge about the continent's history of imperialism and dictatorship, but even without that it's an incredible read.
definitely want to learn so much about everything that surrounds the book and I've been listening to a lot of videos about Márquez as well, but wow yes it was an amazing experience, one of the best books I've ever read!!
I rearranged my shelves on goodreads yesterday too. It takes time and I agree about how I embarrassing it is to see how o rated books back in the days.
I started reading 100 Years of Solitude when I was 12 or 13 and I couldn't finish it, but now that I'm 18 I think it's a good time to try reading it once again. So I think I'll start it soon!
I love your reading vlogs so much it was a blessing this week to have 2 long vlogs :). I read Sappho's fragments yesterday thanks to you and I loved it. Now I really want to read One hundred years of solitude !
i have been enjoying your channel all weekend, i only came across it on Friday and i'm really happy to see you've read and enjoyed one hundred years of solitude!! a little piece of my country's culture ❤️ just watching you talk about it makes me want to re read it. I also now want to read war and peace by Tolstoi, something i thought i'd never say lol, thank you!! love your vids.
Philosophical text recommendations - I like the stoics, Marcus Aurelius in particular. I prefer the works of Ryan Holliday. He makes the stoics more accessible :)
100 años de soledad is an amazing book. The struggle with this book begging with every male family member name is Aureleano Buendía. I’m from Colombia, if you have any questions o want to talk about the book, it would be amazing.
Emmie hi I read a philosophy book called Sophie's world it's a novel about the history of philosophy and it's really get me to think more about history .
Hi Emma, hope you see this but I wanted to ask, 'where in Canada does your family live and whereabouts is your University'? Canada is big and as I am in Australia I was trying to ascertain what part of Canada you are in. It's not Vancouver on the West side is it? Or are you on the East or Middle?
I'm a bit late on vlogs because my life's been literally all over the place but I'm catching up now. AND, 18:00 ... how about arabic literature? I could help with recommendations :D
* e m m i e * okay so do you know The Broken Wings by Gibran Khalil Gibran? Maybe you should start with that. I have the arabic copy sitting unread on my shelf so if you do decide to read, maybe we could buddy read it if you want!
Catching up on your vlogs so you might not see this but for philosophy recommendations, check out Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius :) They’re super interesting, comforting, and engaging
Hi, idk if it’s too late. The book (assuming its 100 Years of Solitude) has many scenes which can be triggering to some people, including violence, sex, incest, etc. Read it cautiously if you think you can be upset by those themes.
Maybe avoid philosophy until a professor includes it in a reading list - it's like a jungle and very political. As for Marquez, his popularity in the USA was underground while he was close friends with Fidel Castro so many of us haven't been able to enjoy his writing. I've always enjoyed that first line about ice - it took me a while to understand it though.
i work in the emergency department at a hospital so i’m never home anymore.. watching these make me relax inexplicably, they’re so peaceful to me and i’m deeply grateful for your vlogs!
that melted my heart, I'm so glad, and wow thank you so much for what you're doing, sending all my love
* e m m i e * you’re so sweet! thank you for social distancing, you too are contributing, in a silent but powerful way, sending even more love back x

I’ve just switched to a new book app. I found goodreads too confusing. How do you categorize books you own but haven’t read?
