Blasters is really something else on buried and die rise. This year is interesting as buried was maxed out, origins ee speedrun became sub 37, cotd round 100 is possible. I think motd/die rise could be maxed out next.

I like how the solution to isssuez turning bug was to basically unwind himself by spinning the other direction hundreds of times. What a weird way to code something as simple and turning left and right

It's something thats impossible to fix without rebalancing the game or getting a new engine. And it's not like actvision gives them enough to re program their entire decade long game mode when they have to punp out a game every year. They can barely release a game in playable state none of them care or even know about how buggy their engine is and how dumb their design desions are. You'd have to go through do many bosses and red tape just to even let anyone important know and they wouldn't care because it does affect 99% of people and they still make millions

with the round timer showing that a round 255 has ended and zombies stopping to spawn since all of them being killed from round 255 means that another round 255 has been completed. people could grind how much round 255's you can complete in 1 game and make the one who completed the most 255 on top of the leaderboard. players would have a 255+1 or a 255+2 record and so on

this was once considered for bo3 and a shame that 255 is considered the max round achieved by the community. a 30-50 hour speedrun to 255 is far less impressive than older games where people are grinding 100 hours cracked out of their mind racing reset to beat wr by 1 round

Was so happy to see that issue got the 255. Can’t believe Buried, which was regarded as prob the most boring high round map ever, turned into one of the most exhilarating, stressful, skillful high rounds ever. Your editing and commentary was perfect
Dang, as a game dev this checks out. I have an understanding of parents and children when it comes to code in video games so part of me kind of wants to look into this to see where I can save as many resources as possible while also getting high rounds. Don't expect much but gonna see what I can find.
@@xxxthwagdrakexxx4672Probably not as having that many assets loaded would cuase massive performance issues from what I understand of the game engine, so it's probably something else. It could simply be a counter for assets that were loaded at any one point, but I don't see why they would track that or why they would put a hard cap on it.

I’ve been playing cod zombies for 14 years and I’ve had my fair share of high round games. But this is DIFFERENT. This is insane how simply going for high rounds can deviate to other components of the game like codes and strategies you have to follow like that’s problem solving to a whole new level. I give credit to these guys who didn’t give up and who want to be the best at their game👏👏

Unless I missed it in the video the reason the child max is 65536 is because 65536 (2^16) is the max value of an unsigned integer. Therefore if you try to have an unsigned integer go above this value it will just crash. This makes me wonder why they never had error handling in place for such an incident.

It's known that the original WAW maps up until der riese were meant for round 30 as the max. They changed it in DER riese, and then figured people might hit 40-50 Until Jason blundell, it was still a casual mode with no reason to grind @@Wunderfulx
It's probably tied to animations, zombies jumping up and down is a animation that probably wasn't properly optimized and the subwoofer, perk machines and turbines also all have animations, sounds and assets of their own. To me it seems like all of these are the main issues that we can decipher as being part of the issue but I don't believe it's all of it but most of it is unavoidable, I know in BO1 you can turn off gibs and blood and that extends resets but I'm not sure if that would apply to this though
Isssuez having to literally subtract the integer limit is so funny to me. Like, how someone routes has so many variables and you just have to adapt. Progression and optimization is beautiful c:
I never tried for high rounds or anything when I played Bo2, I started a bit with Bo3 but it was on Bo4 when I started going into the hundreds whenever I was solo because I have a friend who was running the easter eggs on zombie maps but was trying to do them faster and faster. I didn't like resetting if something wasn't optimal every 5 minutes, so I just played solo when he did. For me when I did Hardcore runs I started crashing around the 130 mark. It reached the point where id prestige, start Classified, then around 16-24 hours later my game would crash and id be at Max XP and able to prestige again. The funny thing was my friend had more rounds survived, doors bought, and other things like that because resetting but I had more kills, less downs, and numerous calling cards for doing stupid things on some maps. Honestly I have been wanting to play Bo2 again, may buy it, but paying full price for all that at this point seems crazy.

I think it would be more like just getting to round 255 twice cause (I'm a little foggy on my memory on time bombs) do the rounds not go back to being how easy they were on that round or does the difficulty stay at 255 cause if it stays the same then yes it should be 510 but if it doesn't than it should just be doing it twice
Good video, well written and nicely informative. I do wanna say though that the mouse bug in Isssuez's 255 is actually unrelated to the 2.147b signed integer limit. The fact that it's fixable with extremely high sensitivity suggests that it's actually caused by a property of floating point numbers. The precision of floats decreases as the stored value gets further away from 0, which means that eventually there are significant gaps between each number. In the case of zombies, the devs simply didn't keep the player's facing angle capped within a certain range, and at some point that angle reaches float values so coarse that unusually large movements are the only things that can breach back toward 0 in a single input. I probably didn't explain it especially well here, but I'd encourage watching the video "Floats" from UncommentatedPannen if you want to understand further. With a cursory knowledge of how floats work, it should be pretty clear how this phenomenon maps to this glitch in CoD.

You're totally right that I made a mistake in the explanation that it doesn't have anything to do with the 32 bit integer limit (2.147 billion) but just another coding limit instead. I love these kinds of videos and its super fascinating hearing about how players deal with the internal game mechanics and code to push the limit higher and higher. I'm really curious as to what the child_max variable actually refers to and what contributes to it. Also find it kind of funny that the round limit in bo2 is 255 when high rounds in World at War past 10,000 are possible despite being much older of a game

For the most part custom camos in zombies are considered legit. There are some cases where people have made certain walls or foliage invisible, or made the zombies bright neon colors on dark maps like Shi No Numa which aren't considered legit because they give a very obvious advantage, but in Blasters' case most players agree it didn't really give him any advantage
As a Brazilian, i will say: The world is lucky we never got a world-domination craving dictator. Because if we had one, then you bet that the world would've gotten conquered. When a Brazilian sets their sights on an objective, no matter how difficult it is. They reach it. Mas respect for Issues. Bro makes us proud.
I don't know much about this but based on the name, i'm thinking there's a child_count behind the child_max, and child_max just tracks the highscore that child_count has ever reached. Child_count probably tracks like the amount of processes that are running. Removing memory-occupying things by taking a simpler character and removing debris and avoiding particles helps keep child_count lower. Maybe animations take up more memory, and maybe having more concurrent zombies alive takes up more memory. I am also thinking there's some kind of memory leak where a child process never dies and just sticks around forever. But I have no experience dealing with the game or the number, I am just thinking based on computer science.
i remember buried. there were 2 types of zombies players, you either loved buried or you hated it. there is no inbetween. i hated it, i was more of an origins type of guy.
Something about Origins’s layout and atmosphere just gets boring to me after round 20. And then there’s all the setup every time. I played the hell of of Origins and Buried, so they both kinda burnt out on me. I wish BO3 chose to put in Buried or MotD instead of Origins though.
just add your own counter to the 255 counter so, you can hear the round end and see the timer reset, so you could do something like 255 + each round afterwards.
The reason why 255 is the highest round number is because 255 is the 8 bit integer limit, or 11111111 in binary. Really cool stuff. Makes me wonder why it doesn't loop around to round 0 instead of staying on 255...
Theoretically given that there's an obvious check that the engine is doing in order to increase the child_max variable, there should be a possible code based solution that runs a check on something else that occurs that also isn't attached to the child_max check in order to reduce that number. Whether or not the game crashes when doing so is the question. If doable, you could run any strat you'd want to 255 on any map.
I wanted to ask. Is the redacted client actually a reason as well? I'm not sure if it could also be a potential cause, but while playing origins, fps would sit at maximum using the redacted client. It also sometimes causes lag and freezes the game. Whenever I loaded the plutonium client, all those problems disappeared. And fps is always maxed. I'm using the plutonium r372 client btw, not the latest one by plutonium. The other widely accepted client is r2905. And I also remember that plutonium for bo2 is ok on zwr. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Hey wunderful I have 2 questions: It seems there multiple versions of the redacted client. Can you tell me which one you use? If you are to play buried again, are you gonna update the buried guide to have the trample steam saloon strat?
I know there's at least Redacted & Redacted Nightly, I wouldn't use Nightly as it's proven to be unstable in the past And that is a good idea to make a Trample strategy guide, since it's the new meta now! I'll have to learn the ins and outs of it a bit better

From my knowledge of computer programming, this feels like a memory leak and a few at that. If you know people checking the code, check the item death code block to see if they free the memory properly

Went out drinking one night, didnt remember the walk home or the bo3 game I started, woke up the next day on round 80 flawless xD

The precision of floats decreases as the stored value gets further away from 0, which means that eventually there are significant gaps between each number. In the case of zombies, the devs simply didn't keep the player's facing angle capped within a certain range, and at some point that angle reaches float values so coarse that unusually large movements are the only things that can breach back toward 0 in a single input.
I probably didn't explain it especially well here, but I'd encourage watching the video "Floats" from UncommentatedPannen if you want to understand further. With a cursory knowledge of how floats work, it should be pretty clear how this phenomenon maps to this glitch in CoD.

I love these kinds of videos and its super fascinating hearing about how players deal with the internal game mechanics and code to push the limit higher and higher. I'm really curious as to what the child_max variable actually refers to and what contributes to it. Also find it kind of funny that the round limit in bo2 is 255 when high rounds in World at War past 10,000 are possible despite being much older of a game

For the most part custom camos in zombies are considered legit. There are some cases where people have made certain walls or foliage invisible, or made the zombies bright neon colors on dark maps like Shi No Numa which aren't considered legit because they give a very obvious advantage, but in Blasters' case most players agree it didn't really give him any advantage

I don't know much about this but based on the name, i'm thinking there's a child_count behind the child_max, and child_max just tracks the highscore that child_count has ever reached. Child_count probably tracks like the amount of processes that are running. Removing memory-occupying things by taking a simpler character and removing debris and avoiding particles helps keep child_count lower. Maybe animations take up more memory, and maybe having more concurrent zombies alive takes up more memory. I am also thinking there's some kind of memory leak where a child process never dies and just sticks around forever. But I have no experience dealing with the game or the number, I am just thinking based on computer science.
I think the rounds should be counted past 255. It can easily be tracked even when the round counter doesn't increase.

i remember buried. there were 2 types of zombies players, you either loved buried or you hated it. there is no inbetween. i hated it, i was more of an origins type of guy.
Something about Origins’s layout and atmosphere just gets boring to me after round 20. And then there’s all the setup every time. I played the hell of of Origins and Buried, so they both kinda burnt out on me. I wish BO3 chose to put in Buried or MotD instead of Origins though.

just add your own counter to the 255 counter so, you can hear the round end and see the timer reset, so you could do something like 255 + each round afterwards.

The reason why 255 is the highest round number is because 255 is the 8 bit integer limit, or 11111111 in binary. Really cool stuff. Makes me wonder why it doesn't loop around to round 0 instead of staying on 255...
I assume once they hit 255 they just repeat the round and stop incrementing so it doesn’t go to 0
After 255 might be -0, (distinct from 0) or other overflow checks, but I don’t know enough about how mindern warfare is designed

Theoretically given that there's an obvious check that the engine is doing in order to increase the child_max variable, there should be a possible code based solution that runs a check on something else that occurs that also isn't attached to the child_max check in order to reduce that number. Whether or not the game crashes when doing so is the question. If doable, you could run any strat you'd want to 255 on any map.

you can technically use cheat engine to reduce both the reset variable and the child_max one but that's considered cheating

I remember playing buried as a kid and somehow the game glitched out and i had an unlimited green vulture aid mist to stay in
I wanted to ask. Is the redacted client actually a reason as well? I'm not sure if it could also be a potential cause, but while playing origins, fps would sit at maximum using the redacted client. It also sometimes causes lag and freezes the game. Whenever I loaded the plutonium client, all those problems disappeared. And fps is always maxed. I'm using the plutonium r372 client btw, not the latest one by plutonium. The other widely accepted client is r2905. And I also remember that plutonium for bo2 is ok on zwr. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think Isssuez used to play on an old build of plutonium called ancient Pluto and still errored, but I’ll have to ask him

I know there's at least Redacted & Redacted Nightly, I wouldn't use Nightly as it's proven to be unstable in the past

Ok here’s why the count may go up- it’s because all three zombie spawners for the entire map are right where people camp with jug. Here’s glitching queen’s video on zombie spawner locations. Towards the end of the video shows where the spawners are for buried.
