I ALMOST FALL OFF | GOPRO RIDING LESSON

- Hi friends! 😍 In today's lesson I get to ride the beautiful Miss Daisy again! ❤️ Lately I've been assigned to ride her almost every lesson and I'm really starting to feel comfortable riding her and the way that she moves and works, especially in her canter.
In this lesson we focus on canter circles and I have a moment where I lose my stirrup (of course) and almost fall off 🙈 Thank goodness Daisy is such a good girl and immediately stopped moving. She is such an angel 😇
All the action is captured on my trusty GoPro, so you can feel like you're right in the saddle with me. So grab your helmet, saddle up, and let's hit the arena together!

first! a little tip for your leg is to make your stirrups longer by one or two holes because then you get more room to stretch your leg out, if youre jumping keep it that length but just for practicing the canter make it longer and really stretch into your heel. try not to swing your leg back as well. also try to lean back more and try not to lean forward while anticipating the two point, itll be difficult to jump that way later on. try to go up into the two point about a step away from the pole, otherwise lean back. and yes, i always lost my stirrups in the beginning i feel like its difficult to keep balanced and stretched out, its def not just you! also to keep your horse cantering while steering try to use your opposite leg to push and use less rein. (ex. to turn left use your right leg against the horse and loosen up your left leg, use only a little rein. vice versa!) sorry this was so long its so hard to explain lol! also for saddlepads, ik you talked about this in an other video but it wont let me comment i think hunter/forest green, white, black, grey, maroon/burgundy, blue (light or navy), or dark orange matches any coat! heres a link to a pretty affordable saddlepad, these colors match any coat! www.smartpakequine.com/pt/smartpak-classic-medium-diamond-ap-saddle-pad-9496
anyways youre doing SO good love the video keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for the tips!!!! Yes I’ve been trying slightly longer stirrups and I think it’s been helping so much! I’m actually keeping my stirrups now when I canter (fingers crossed it stays that way), thanks for the link!! I’m gonna buy my first saddle pad this weekend 🥰
@@RidewithClara of course! im so glad that your canter is improving and youre improving as a rider so much! and i cant wait to see the new saddlepad!
Daisy is sooo gorgeous! 🩷 i actually fell off at my 1st lesson so I’m like so unbothered about falling now lol! And I have the same exact problem with my left foot/heel, what I usually do is shorten my left stirrup and then try to put extra weight in my left foot and then I adjust it once I can stop it! :)
Omg you’re soo brave for coming back after falling off in your first lesson!! Aha and thanks so much for the tip 🥰
I used to loose my stirrups all the time! I learned it was because I was pinching in the knee and my lower leg was swinging causing my foot to come out of the stirrup!
My trainer helped me to fix my swinging leg and pinched knee by explaining that I needed to rotate my leg in right from my hip so that more of my inner thigh and inner calf contacted the horse. It helped my seat to be much more stable too and helped me swing my legs less and keep my heels down and toes forward instead of turned out 😊 Haven’t lost my stirrups since!
Oouu that’s a good tip!!! I’ll try and keep this in mind for my next lesson 😊
@@RidewithClara I’d love to hear if it works for you too!!! Good luck next lesson (even though you don’t need it lol you’re doing great!) :)
I lost my stirrups a lot cantering for the first time for a couple weeks but I just stopped thinking about my heels and just relaxed and they stayed down and in the stirrups. You just have to relax them that’s what gets your heel down. You’re doing amazing!!!!!
Thanks so much for the tip!! 😍😍
Yay! I love your channel so much!!❤ Your doing so great with your riding!!!
Thank you sooo much!! 🥹❤️
Don't worry, no judgement here, I agree with above, maybe slightly shortening the left stirrup, you have the disadvantage of riding different horses that have different saddles, so it can be a whole different riding strategy, I lose my stirrup all the time, usually for me my right one.
With your left foot "wobble", does it always occur on the your left lead? I find I tend to lean and over compensate and thus not have sufficient tension in that inside foot.
Wow! You have given me things to think about when I ride, so thank you.
You are great and such a delight to watch.
Back at my old barn, the barn favorite was this mare named Flyby. Shes an absolute angel and has the prettiest coat (palomino dapple)! I had the honor of showing her and we got third! Shes so sweet and just amazing to be around lol
Daisy kept stalling with her hay 😂
In my last lesson, I rode a horse called Eddie and he was having a lazy day, but he CAN be quick if you work well enough, but at one point in the lesson he just stopped, and we weren’t being asked to stop, but we were trotting one by one, but we had to keep walking and Eddie was like: “NO WAY, I’M NOT MOVING >:).” I was apologising to the riders behind me, like: “Oh no, I’m holding up the line!” 😂 It was quite the ride in my last lesson, I’m writing this as I’m preparing for my next lesson funnily enough, so I’ll update if ya’ll wanna know what happened during that one.
Someone said they wanted another update so I suppose I’ll say it.
Today I got the beginner lazy boy Rocky, I wasn’t exactly- happy, but we still had a good lesson, but since it was so hot he was lazier than usual. I had to use a crop with him that day. When we were TRYING to canter he was SO against it, I swear I did a whole lot of sitting trot because he wouldn’t canter! But I quit trying to canter and we just walked and trotted for this lesson. Eddie is a lazy bones, but Rocky is even lazier. I know for a fact I could’ve gotten him to canter that day, but he didn’t want to I suppose. We’ll try again next time, but I asked for my favourite pony for next time, Freya.
LOLOL I know a couple horses like that 😂
update!!
Losing your stirrups in the beginning is very common due to the fact that beginners are usually unbalanced in the saddle. Doing no stirrup work or bare back can really improve this. As for your leg moving, I recommend shorting your stirrups on that side or letting both your stirrups down a notch or two. It could also be a balance problem, in which case doing the stuff I recommended above can seriously help (no stirrup work) generally by the time you get to your first jump, you shouldn't be randomly losing your stirrups often (we all lose them sometimes) your a rider with great potential, and I can Really see that you have passion for this sport, keep practicing ❤️❤️
Thanks so much for the tips ❤️ and Awww thank you so much 🥹🫶🏻
Your trainer is so sweet, I just left my current barn because the owner and my trainer were REALLY mean to me and I’m so sad because before I went to that barn I went to another one and I got to ride the same horse every lesson I loved that horse and my trainer sadly died because of cancer 😢 miss her
Awww I’m so sorry to hear that ❤️ I hope you find a good barn to ride at with lovely horses and nice people
@@RidewithClara THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPLYING I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH!!
It's always great to get a few consecutive lessons on one horse! I find with lessons sometimes it can be frustrating trying to get into the swing of riding a different horse every week. If you find having your heel down and putting weight in your stirrup to be hard then maybe that's what's making it hard to for you to keep your stirrups?
Yes I completely agree!! And I think you’re right, I’ve been feeling more weight in my heel lately and it’s made such a difference !!
Daisy is so cuteeee😍🫶🏻 I love doing bare back and stirrup less rides to help with my seat and leg! I have the exact same thing happining with my left leg😭
I’m glad I’m not that only one ! 😅 makes me feel better aha
Love seeing the outside jump arena on your way in! Beautiful
What kind of breeches are you wearing? Love the color and the pockets!
Also you can tell she is a great lesson horse as she slowed and stopped when you are close to falling and/ or loosing balance. She took care of you ♥️ some other horses won’t be as easy 😬 as far as keeping your stirrups (I’m older so think) it took me quite a few consistent canter lessons, turning, circling etc …you will get it! I can tell you are determined!
My breeches are the brand Elation! I have a couple from them and I love it, good quality and affordable ☺️ she really is !!! This is just another reason why I love her, she’ll take such good care of a more beginner rider and she’s also so forgiving ❤️
How often do you ride? Once a week? Your stirrup issue will be a thing of the past before you know it! ❤
Hey Clara! I think I might know why your left stirrup feels longer. When you mount you mount from the left, thus stretching the leather. So what I do is change the stirrups around every now and then e.g. left stirrup moved to ride side ect. Hope this helps!❤
Oohh I never thought about that! Good idea 😇
@@RidewithClara glad I could help! ❤️
Claraaaa!❤ I’m so glad that you held on and got back up! ❤❤ I hope you keep posting videos for us!! ❤❤❤ You are an awesome rider ily! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much !! 🥹❤️
Love your videos!
I’m glad you like them 🥰
I love this channel. it is sooooo nice to see an horsey/riding channel that is still learning to canter. i know there are probably others but this is the first I have seen. If anyone has any good channels pls tell me.
I’m so glad you like it 😊🫶🏻
Its great to ride different horses for exposure, but having a few lessons with the same horse in a row can really help you understand what you're doing differently too! Don't beat yourself up too much about having a swinging left leg. Same as with the horses, we all have a weaker side and a stronger side. I ride better on the right rein than I do on the left. Sounds like you know what to work on, just a case of practise and repetition! I think you have a great lower leg considering how long you've been riding, you'll stop losing that left stirrup in no time I'm sure!
I completely agree!! Each lessons horse has taught me something different, it’s just such a pleasure to ride Daisy 😇 thanks so much!!!
omg i love this!! thanks for making my day clara! your videos are AMAZING!
also, i cantered for the first time yesterday and i did not lose my stirrups at all! am i just lucky?
Thanks so much! And OMG that’s amazing!!! 😍 congratulations!!!
i used to drop my stirrups and after only a few ( few being 2-5 ) months, i got the hang of it. still figuring out the sitting canter, especially on bouncier horses since i don’t ride the same all the times yk.
I totally get you !!! It’s so easy to have a nice seat on a smooth horse but the second you ride someone bumpier all that goes out the window haha
Congrats u earned a new subbb
I just subbed!❤I love your Channel so much
Omg thanks so much 🥰🫶🏻
I have a problem with my right foot I am always messing around with it it’s so annoying. Love your vids ❤❤
At least I’m not the only one and I’m so glad you like them ❤️
i used to loose mine alot when trotting or cantering it got better after a while though
Glad I’m not the only one!! 😅 I used to lose them a lot with trotting when I first learning and it doesn’t happen anymore so there’s hope for canter ahaha
Hey Clara! Just a tip! when leading the horse to the arena, try not to stand in front of the horse just in case they bolted! They could catch your leg and it could end badly! I mean that’s how I was taught to do it but I don’t know if you were taught differently but yes try hold along side of their feet but not in front or behind ❤
Thanks for the tip!! 😊
@@RidewithClara my pleasure ❤️
I love your videos
I’m so glad you like them! 😍
I see that you have glasses and if you wear them while riding you can buy this stuff called NerdWax and it helps keep you’re glasses from slipping down at all.❤
Love your videos!! ❤🤩
I’m so glad you enjoy them! 😍
Keep up the good work!❤
Thank you 🥰
@@RidewithClara ofc!
Did u get ur own saddle pad cause it really matched ur shirt today
I’m getting one soon!! 😍 this one was just a happy coincidence hahah
@@RidewithClara oh haha yeah I just got 200 dollars so I went to get a saddle pad and earbonnet I got yellow what coloer well u get
Maybe try to canter in a half seat for a long time to help your leg because I found that helped make my legs more stable! ;)
Thanks for the tip! ☺️
Nice!! Curiosity: You have breeches that stop before the ankle or that stop above the ankle or that cover completely your ankle?
Mine cover the ankle completely!!!
@@RidewithClara Could You make a video where you show and wear your breeches collection?
What barn do you ride at?
Daisy seems to love her hay a bit to much 😅
She acts like she’ll never see hay again 😂
@@RidewithClara 😂
I have question!Do you consider,in the future,to make a poll on your chanel with possible new video titles?
