WE GOT ENGLISH VOICE-OVER RIGHT AT THE LAST HOUR, LET'S GO!!1!1! While we may not have the game as open-source, hopefully it could bring attention to The Ur-Quan masters. They deserve all the money they can get from this sequel of a masterpiece of a game.
I’m really glad that the original creators of this game were able to maintain the rights to the stories and all their species. Too bad they couldn’t keep the name. Thankfully, they were able to put the source code on Steam/GOG, and keep in touch with the fans (recently added it to my library). I remember watching Yogscast play this game however many years ago and thought it was really cool. It’s crazy just how much content this and other old games like Daggerfall have. I hope that they’re able to reach their Kickstarter goal to get voice actors and other things. That really enhances the setting.
That’s interesting. They also introduced me to Cube World (such a shame the retail game turned out the way it did. It’s so weird how the guy making the game radically altered the progression, instead of building on what people enjoyed about the Alpha. There’s this open source Cube World clone called Veloren -‘d it looks really cool), and I think also Dwarf Fortress (so happy it’s now on Steam with various quality of life improvements. I was a bit iffy about them adding graphics because the original has a certain charm to it, but now they’ve grown on me and things are more identifiable). You should do more short videos like this where you’re talking about the games, instead of reuploading clips. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the different games (there’s also this Lego fan site called Bricklink, and maybe you could use their Studio V2 program to make MOCs of some of the ships if you have any skill with making custom Lego builds. That would be cool). I’ve heard that 3 was a mixed bag that improved on some things, and regressed on others. It has some interesting ideas like colony building, but apparently the new systems were half baked and the old regressed in some ways. Apparently, it’s fine if you look at it on its own, but not a worthy follow up to the original. I like the weird puppets used for the cutscenes. Some look good, while others look bad and don’t really look like the pixel art. They make me think of what classic Fallout did. Haven’t played Orgins either. From what I’ve heard it’s perfectly fine if you view it as a spiritual successor. One thing I really like about the aliens in Origins and the originals is how they’re truly alien. They don’t look like humans in suits, or just a different skin color (aside from that one in 2 that’s supposed to be the trope of a sexy alien). But, instead have all these crazy designs, and radically different personalities/worldviews.
Algorithm? Orz are *happy campers* when they see this *party* in *bottom*! We like to *play* with *campers* sometimes, especially in this *playground*.
Hopefully even if we don't reach the VA goal, there will atleast be support for potential fan-made VA. SC fans have a great track record for good fan VAs
Well, only since Master of Orion failed. You can use my voice acting if you like. I do a Russian engineering admiral scout accent (a little system shock a little sc2) and a space gumshoe cop (a little macguyver&a little bruce willis). My portfolio is in aethercloud, but I sound recorded like 300 plus lines for a vehicle driving satnav command voice. stored on app which i renamed, "Dipshit Soundboard."
I think th may collect more money after the Kickstarter. Voice acting is too nessesary for CHOI, I think they must do it or everything will be ruined) Or, in thebworst case, we will do the voice acting ourselvess, as we will be able to mod the game in Steam. And the orgignal creator's reputation will be somewhere at the very low point.
@@tarponpet I just hate the general vibe of 'Origins sucks, let's get back to SCII because we'll never do better than that'. I get that they're separate continuities and you can't just ram together the two universes, but there's just something about retreating into nostalgia that doesn't sit right with me.
@maltheopia Thats the thing though, this ISN'T a reaction to Origins. Made by an entirely different company and they tried to start back when Origins was in development. This isn't Stardock backpedaling on Origins, they still plan for their own sequel to Origins.
Do you know if the devs have any plans on adding colonies like in 3, or did they reject that like they’ve done with 3’s story? Also, does Origins have that feature, or is it mostly just a spiritual successor of 2?
There don't seem to be any plans for colony mechanics. And Origins doesn't have any either, it's a spiritual successor of 2. Though Stardock does own the rights the use Star Control 3 races in the future.
That’s too bad. If done right having colonies could really enhance the game. Too bad there’s no overhauls for 3 that fixes issues with how the ships are balanced, eliminates soft-locking for quests, adds more content, and other stuff like that. I tried to find one, but sadly it didn’t exist. I’m assuming the reason is due to a combination of the source code not being released, and since most of the fanbase rejected it the crazies who use their skills to overhaul/add more content aren’t interested in working on it. Such a shame because aside from story issues there’s a really good foundation. That’s good to know that the species introduced in 3 aren’t in legal hell. I hope that Origins throws them in at some point. It would also be great if they added a fleshed out colony system. The idea of going out into the stars and building bases is a really cool concept. If you had multiple factions/species doing it it would give the impression that the galaxy is truly alive.
it doesnt seem like the VA thing will be hit, although I hear that a lot of kickstarter projects get a big rise in funding near the end. although i wonder if that mostly just applies to ones that havent been funded yet.
@@tarponpet tbh i never found out how to play star control 1 this looks exstremley promising! you mind if i make a community post about it? hopefully it could expand this!
Let’s go hu-nams! Don’t you want to hear the beautiful voice of Fwiffo 30+ years later??
Launch fighters! Go! Go! Go!

Honestamente tiene una pinta increible, que ganas tengo de que salga ya
Here's a comment to help boost this to the algorithm.
Replying for algorithm
Juffo-Wup fills my fibers and I grow turgid. Doing-the-same action ensues.

I wish I could have helped with this, I adore The Ur-Quan Masters.
Can still donate on backerkit!
I hope they do a second kickstarter or open things up to the potential for dlc tbh
Looks incredible

I'll pay if there's a chance of seeing SC: Origins races like the Lexites or Scryve. Otherwise, eh. I like SCII, but nostalgia is the mind-killer.
I love Origins but this is one of the strangest complaints I've seen lol

Commenting to boost the algorithm.
Shit I didnt even know about this, I would have donated
You can still via Backerkit I think!
Looking forward to the sequel to my favourite game of all time...even without voice-acting 🥲
Thats NOT the spirit!
Comment for the algorithm!
so is this a sequel to a sequel?
I mean yes but theres almost no reason to play Star Control 1 as it was just ship fighting modes with very little narrative.

@@_danishdude Why would I mind? Spread the word! That's all I'm doing!
