Thanks for the review, but really I want to say thanks for not spoiling anything. I started to read a review this morning that jumped to talking about the plot points.
I do my best :)
The ending likely was chopped off. There had been rumours since the games announcement that it was going to be done in bits like Hitman or the Final Fantasy VII remake. Square Enix is really pushing their luck with their business model as of late, and it's frustrating because they often produce pretty damn good games but I hate the way they're releasing them and marketing them etc.
Mine had an ending - it has a 'secret' video in the credits at the end and depending on what side missions you did and who lived/died, you get a custom new report giving you story on what happened next for each person. I dind't kill anyone (got the pacifist award) on my play through so the ending was quite long
Was the secret video not the mid credits holo boardroom scene? The news report at the end was cool but it seemed that nothing had really changed with the political situation.
John Cleave yeah, the trophy for is says something about watching a secret video - I guess you can skip the credits and miss it or something?
they don't know what the fuck they are doing.
Necro reply... I just played through this after the winter sale. It's great - but it totally feels like an "Episode 1" - not really a complete game for Deus Ex. As such I'm not sure $60 is totally appropriate as a selling price - and the dlc...
This game looks fantastic! Can't wait to buy it in 2 years with all expansions for $25
...I'm not going to wait 4 years to buy it for $10, that'd just be silly ;)
Nah, $6 in a Humble Bundle. :)
Lol that's exactly how I buy and play games. I got a PlayStation 4 and I'm just now playing Mgs5 and Bloodborne. Unless it's something I plan on playing online with friends I always wait for a price drop and dlc bundle
deus ex human revolution 19.99$
Better make that 20 years for $10
I think that had decent game play, I could be wrong but I remember learning NMS had bad gameplay as well as nothing to really do
Good lad. Don't be a chump paying full price.
This is one of the best reviews I've ever heard. Superb structure & honesty, far better than the likes of IGN or Gamespot. Superb. Keep em coming.
I've only played a couple hours of it so far. I really love the conversation system in comparison to Fallout 4. I love knowing *what* I'm going to say.
Oh yeah, it's an awesome system. Grab the conversation augmentations when you can, makes it even more involved!
Review the original Deus Ex game please!
I agree!
Do it bro!
Excellent review, was fair in its assessment of the DLC/Story without letting it hamper an overall positive impression left by what is undeniably stellar gameplay and level design, something other reviewers couldn't seem to get past. Subbed.
I've hesitated from watching this video because I was afraid of spoilers. I have now learned that you do a good job of relaying important information to people who haven't played the game without spoiling much. Thank you!
Loved your review, even when I played the game years before and was eating English muffin with black Forest ham and hot sauce, will keep watching your old and new reviews man, love your videos
I started watching you for your Sims reviews so this is the first non-Sim review I've watched of yours and I just have to say you did a fantastic job!
Thanks!
has nobody else noticed this game came out in AUGust
It's all the little details I've come across so far that make me smile, for example when I realized one of the things I can craft is a multi-tool and it kinda shook me a little with the simple reminder that as far as the timeline is going we're getting close to the original DE.
I'm sure there are a good few small details I've missed but it's nice to know the attention is there.
Could somebody please explain to me why there are people who click on these videos and thumb them down? I never understood that in the first place, but when it comes to such a polished and well-executed review like this one...? Who would do that?!!
If you REALLY want more Praxis points or credits, just load up Cheat Engine. And you can do that on as many or few playthroughs as you want.
LOL, the other day someone made a Reddit post saying the same thing, and some *genius* tried to spew this:
"they can VAC you for using them, since modding the game cuts into their profits."
That shit made my day
(...for the potentially non-savvy, that's utter BS)
LeiserGeist
Yeah, I don't think he actually knew what VAC is...
But... but my dad works at VALVe, Blizzard, Microsoft, NASA, and Burger King! He says that hacking your own single-player experience is totally illegal! /s
Poki#3
Not in the slightest
Peter Richmond I needed a good laugh, thanks c:
Cheat Engine is the best. It's like a GameShark for PC games.
A fun, enticing & well thought out profile, I loved it & am hoping to start it today myself!
Amazing Review LGR Love To Listen to your Reviews.
Love the 60fps, thanks LGR, keep up the good work man
I really love your reviews :) thanks
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for thanking him, I love your politeness :)
Thanks for awesome and rapid review! I really love the way you covered what I wanted to know :)
Microtransactions in a single player game? They are true phreakin dee's :)
I loved Mankind Divided. It's such a shame that they've put the series on hold. I never had much of an issue with microtransactions because I never bought any. The problem with not buying a game like MD because "it has optional microtransactions" is that it sends the wrong message to SE, as we can see from them putting the series on ice. Instead of saying "we don't want microtransactions" it says "we don't want games like this", or at least that's what the higher ups will take from it. Not buying microtransactions says " we don't want to buy microtransactions."
Speaking of cyberpunk, have you played Remember Me? I think that was a flawed but underappreciated game. For me the Parisian neo-noir/cyberpunk environment and atmosphere made it well worth the playthrough.
I have indeed! It had some issues, but no argument that the environment was amazing.
Remember Me is in the Capcom Humble Bundle right now. Amazing deal if you have both PS3 and PS4. Hase RE remakes for PS4 and like 10 other games for $15.
Fun fact: It's by the same developers as Life is Strange. I loved Remember Me.
You're right about the main story which is like meh, but the side quests are what really spice up the game in my opinion. I've played MD 3 times so far and each one I've found new side missions, new characters and areas to explore.
Also, I felt the Utulek Complex aka Gollem City is another location on its own as also is the Palisade Bank (specially if you add the expansion story System Rift.)
I love your style of reviewing so I subscribed. I came for the Sims and now I'm here to see the rest of your videos. And btw, I really don't mind to see shirtless Jensen brooding on life and the world looking through his apartment window drinking whiskey 😍
Great review. I appreciate that you added in your thoughts about the not so great parts of the game without dwelling on them. I absolutely loved this game. It was perfectly streamlined, without being dumbed down. The gameplay was just immensely satisfying, so I found it incredibly really sad to read soooo many bad reviews on Steam, just because of one or tow annoying problems with the game. Nothing is perfect, and I found that the good far outweighed the bad in this game for sure.
Your review of this game is the best :) You really do appreciate Deus Ex -series.
As someone who has played every Deus Ex for the PC, this game continues to keep the awesomeness alive! Good review, the DLC season pass BS bothers me. This is a franchise built on alternate endings.
gonna buy it. thanks for another great review. LGR RULES
Oh, right, Deus Ex takes place in futuristic Czech Republic. I knew that. But why didn't I played it yet then? I don't know!
Clint, as always, thank You for hugely intriguing video, I don't know anybody who has better voice for reviewing something then you. Also, you are encouraging me to trying new games, I am awfuly conservative and that means I don't want try anything new. Without you I would never know about these good games, because nobody else can do it. Thank You again very very much!
Greetings from Loket, Czech Republic
June of 2020 will be the 20th anniversary of the original Deus Ex. I *really * hope you'll do a 20-years-later kind of review of it.
6:39 you could say that about every Deus Ex game to be honest, It's nice to see it's mostly kept it's original formula almost entirely!
Thanks for mentioning the Ending. Guess i will be buying DEMK when its fully released.
Wow the graphics is Amazing in this game. Such fine details. 😃👌
Stay Awesome. 😎👍
Sweet. i bought it right away but haven't had the chance to get at it yet. Now I can't wait.
I always watch your reviews for PC Games dude, can always trust your judgement 😊
I was never really able to get into Deus Ex back in the day, I've tried repeatedly to play the first one over the years and they were never able to keep my attention for more than a few hours. I absolutely loved Human Revolution tho (despite me never completing the game) and it will probably be a while before I can pick up Mankind Divide, so I'll definitely have to play through HR again before MD goes down in price.
So tempting. I liked HR, but I think I'll wait for that sale.
Very nice Clint. As always :)
I'm waiting for all the DLC to be finished and for them to release a GOTY or Director's Cut edition. That's the Mankind Divided I'll buy. Because a lot of people are saying the same things that you are: There are a lot of conspicuous holes in the plot that feel like they were left there just to be filled by DLC. So, if the complete game isn't there yet, I'll just wait until it is.
Cool! I'm surprised so many games lately have been reported to have lackluster endings though; that's a pity.
I've HEARD (only heard) that the game was originally going to be much longer, but Square Enix chopped it up into two or three pieces to sell it as multiple games instead of one. That's probably why the ending is weird to you.
Really, hrm That'd make a lot of sense, because the ending genuinely feels more like the ending to a first act as opposed to a whole game.
Is there are any source of this info online?
Lazy Game Reviews
That's why I said I "heard" it. I think I was listening to a podcast that a few game journalists have and one of them mentioned that the ending was strange. That was followed up by another journalist saying that he/she had contacts with an anonymous source who worked at Square and said that they cut the game up.
I really can't find the official documentation of that, and I listen to a lot of podcasts about gaming. But I think it might have been the Podquisition (a podcast that Jim Sterling, Laura K. Buzz and Miracle of Sound run.)
But I can't say if that was the exact source, either.
If it is true, then that would make a lot of sense. If not, then I take all the blame of being wrong.
Update. I found the exact source. Podquisition Episode 93 at around the 29 minute point. Jim Sterling talks about it.
Holy crap this game looks so pretty. This might be my first new game purchase since I got my GTX 1070. Also my first Deus Ex game ashamedly...
just doing Human Revolution DC with ENB graphics, got it for 5 EUR on Steam sale, great title and ENB makes it look crisp and modern.Mankind Div. is in my queue. i7 6700k plus R9 390, should I get win10 for dx12 for this?
I don't think this game supports dx12.
I have 2 980ti's with an overclocked 6800k and I still can't run the game with max settings. Make sure you turn off MSAA
+Spiritusantus sure will need to find the golden ballance with one R9 390
oh man that's rough.. what resolution are you playing at?
the only reason i'm interested is the graphical immersion of the game to be fairly honest
the city looks rather interesting and moody, maybe in time VR is gonna catch up on that but it makes me excited to model/render stuff
When this game came out i know a lot of people praised the fact they got rid of the yellow filter, but I kind of missed it. I don't know why either. Still enjoyed the game though. To get around the micro transactions I used cheat engine to get praxis and creds.
I think the yellow filter gave human revolution a retro futuristic noir vibe and I loved that. Kinda reminded me of some of the lighting in the original Bladerunner too.
Damn. 5 years since human revolution?? That game came out during such a simpler time (for me at least). No college, job, girlfriend, car, or responsibilities. There's no way the new one can live up to the nostalgia of HR, so I'm not going to buy it until it's on sale. Thanks for the review.
Underrated game! I love it. So great! Anda so the DLC's
DXMD is one of the most underrated game in the series that felt far more like the original Deus Ex and returning some of the features from the first 2 DX games. The only problem in this game is that it didn't have more hub worlds and a rushed cliffhanger ending (at least it's nowhere near as bad as HR multiple endings).
Too bad that it has microtransactions...microtransactions that shouldn't be there at all
Wait. Games can open with an optional story recap?
Square Enix, I want you to add this feature to Kingdom Hearts 3.
Granted, it would probably be 3 hours long, but it's better than nothing.
Looks like a game I will be excited to play in 2-3 years when the $25 gold edition comes out with all DLC already included. Microtransactions in this type of game is something I won't do.
Having really enjoyed hr, this review sure is a relief.
Can't wait to get the Series X and replay this.
There will be almost zero difference on the Series X, fyi... It’s in the same resolution as Xbox One and it’s even in 30fps too. You will get better load times only, lol
@@alenko4763 it has boost on series x
@@finalforest7561 Yeah now it has, so that's awesome. But it didn't when I wrote the comment
One of the best reviewers on TH-cam 🙂
4:37 I like how he kept a smile the whole time, even while getting donkey punched XD
So when will you do a Deus Ex 1 retrospective / 20 year anniversary?! :-)
Be a better gamer and don't let the publisher fish you on praxis kits and ammo and enjoy the game as it is. Even if the plot is a mess..
I know right!?!These Micro transactions are a real cancer In the industry and people that bought them are the worst. There's no excuses,we're not talking about paying for something you can't have In game 'cause you can.Dlc tickes me off But at least It's almost always something new,but paying for level ups,In game credits that can be found during playthrough? No that shit just dumb.
First step, stop calling them microtransactions. They are in-game payments. Or if you want to be cute you could call them a cheater's tax. That one has the added benefit of bringing everyone's dislike of paying taxes along with it, and it's off putting because most people prefer not to think of it as cheating.
Just don't buy them.... On medium I completed the game and had all but 4 Augmentations options completed (4 options, not 4 actual augments that have 3-6 options within them). On NG+ I got the rest as was fully beefed out in no time.
The MT are there for people who want to rush through it - so its up to them if they want to buy them - but you literally don't need them at all - On my playthrough I got the Pacifist as well for not killing anyone at all.
This game got me into overclocking my gpu, optimizing graphic and shit to get that smooth over 30 fps with my GTX 960. Still that's worth it.
"...you may want to wait for a sale." Well, all I can say to that, is; Y'arrgghhh.
Thank god the gog version don't even got the microtransactions.
I enjoyed HR a lot but just from what I see here this doesn't seem to be for me. A lot of the reason I liked HR was the environments, especially Hengsha. The plot is what kept me going too. Since the plot is apparently not as good and the environments look detailed yet unpleasant I might skip this. I'm let down that the only real hub is dilapidated Prague, not that I dislike Prague but the futuristic yet slightly dirty hubs of HR were nearly perfect for me.
As for the plot, I can't say I loved the endings of HR but through most of it I was pretty engaged in what was going on and I enjoyed characters like Sarif, Malik, and others. Even side missions had some interesting extra lore and stuff.
I just want to end this by saying I give them kudos for trying something different. I guess they could have played it safer and kept it more the same like I wanted but decided to take a chance. On the flipside, what the heck is that real money for in-game stuff? Like, can't you literally just modify game files for such items? I know not everyone can but that's so bizarre to me.
Your instincts are good. This game is nowhere near as good as Human Revolution.
Really great game although i didn't like it as much as i thought i would at first.
Some of the early quests are kind of dull but once i was sneaking in to government buildings, stealing people's crap and breaking in to vaults something clicked and i was hooked.
I've been watching LGR since you uploaded the top 17 worst games of all time, one of the best list :-) I'm a gamer but also Lazy.
bought it in the steam summer sale for 20 Euros with all dlcs. Awesome gameplay weak story. I love it.
Rumors that Squeenix is going to port this to Linux. I CAN wait because for some reason there is mixed to negative reviews on this game on steam.
Thumbs up for using the line "narrative blue balls" ;-)
its a better overall game than HR, maybe not the story or characters like pritchard sarif etc but its very complex, only one hub city but its got a lot going on, there's tons of dungeons, secret areas, locations to spend a lot of time getting lost in, more ways to do things, its super fun, the DLC criminal past and system rift are also very good large areas with lots to do, i still love HR its one of my favorite all time games but MD is very good also, i would prob give them the same rating a solid 9 but for story edge goes to HR but overall locations and complexity that goes to MD.
thanks for saying on sale word ^^ and yes game is on sale on psn digital 11.24 included season pass bundle
I love the style of the two recent Deus Ex games on console. I just can't get in to playing them.
Back when the first Deus Ex came out, it made me buy a 3d card. When HR came out it made me upgrade to a newer build, and this time around it's Mankind divided that made me move forward in time, instead of sitting like a duck. Now, all we need to do is somehow erase Invisible war, and we are all set with a great trilogy of games.
Speaking of dead space, I'm surprised to not have seen a review of Dead Space 1 and 2 yet from LGR. Also the Dead Space Remake.
The first one is getting old enough for a proper retrospective, for sure
narrative blue balls... GLORIOUS! 😨
I'm glad I bought the game, those graphics (splooooosh), I've played through it 3 times already. I just HATE that ending. It was clearly cut. I only hope that it comes in DLC and I don't have to wait another 5-6 years to play it in another game. Hope you'll review the DLC!
I'll wait until the "full" version comes out.
The soundtrack of the game is amazing
I've really been looking forward to this one. I think I played HR through maybe 6 or 7 times just trying new things. Think MD can be as enjoyable through so many replays, LGR?
I don't really think the microtransactions mattered at all, I mean they are there, they are awful, but as you mentioned, at no point the game ever pushs it at you. There seems to be a lot of people making drama about that, claiming that ruined the game and they won't buy it, there are more important things to be taken into account when deciding to buy the game or not than microtransactions in DX:MD
one thing that's really confusing me, when Deus Ex: HR came out I remember the general reaction being "yeah, it's ok i guess" but now as this game comes out I'm just seeing "I loved DE:HR" or "DE:HR was so awesome" and I'm just really confused at the sudden change of tone regarding it.
My only let down was the repeating train scenes, the people should be more diverse on trains in every ride. The city would have felt more lived. The entire game is amazing, hope the dlc gives us more side missions.
Lately finished the game and I have to say I don't remember what the story was about. Just some generic conspiricy stuff "Corporations, illuminati, etc.". Good level design and gameplay maintained it.
Do you think perhaps they put the option to purchase Praxis and Credits in to help players who found it too difficult or something?
I think they did it because _money._
Lazy Game Reviews Lol Unthinkable!
Let us never forget the "Augment your Pre-order" debacle.
yeah...
One complaint I'd add is that the game is somewhat too easy compared to HR. I just beat a stealth playthrough on Give Me Deus Ex with really no problems. I think it basically boiled down to how much energy I had compared to HR. Without the need to constantly replenish it, many sections could be bypassed just by going invisible and burning a couple biocells.
every time I play or hear something with Elias Toufexis in it I think to myself: "he never asked for any of this"
last one being assassin's creed: odyssey.
Rift was the same. Some of the bonus items were one time only, so tough shit if you used them on a character you then ended up not liking/playing.
will we see a classic Deus Ex review from you some time soon?
So I think I'll just wait for a full edition with all the DLC before I buy it. still love the deus EX games though :D
Guess I'm gonna do the ElderScrolls/Fallout routine and just wait for the GOTY to come out and buy it all at once.
Hey Clint, have you heard about the Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary event? looks like Gearbox has something in store for us. I hope it's Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded. Though somehow, I doubt it. But we'll see...
Wait, as it seriously been five years? How time passes.
loved the video, thanks :)
I never played one of these games. Why did someone want to cause everyone with a prosthetic part to go nuts? I seen in some lore stuff they talked about this happening, but never actually explained why.
Honestly, I think I would like this game if it wasn't about going from point A to B, and hide or shoot everything in between. With the looks, UGI, and what not. I think this game would be great with a real open world aspect. Maybe even a open world MMO like Star Citizen

If this is just Human Revolution.5 then I'm all for it! And I haven't played the original or Invisible War, do they hold up?
The original holds up if you don't mind oldschool graphics. Look up TotalBiscuit's hour long special / 250,000 subscriber special on Deus Ex for a good overview.
If I've never played any of these Dues Ex games, would this be a good game to start with?
Do you just want to play a fun game or do you want to "start playing Deus Ex"? If you don't care about the story, sure you can start here. You won't be missing anything necessary to play. Like he said it even has a recap of the events of HR.
the first one is VERY entertaining and some people replay it all the time
At least play HR, it's a very good game in both story and gameplay and it would be better to play it before MD to prevent be spoiled.
HR and MD are prequels to the original, so you can play them before the original and still don't be spoiled.
If you decide to play the original, just don't dismiss the others if you cannot stand with that gameplay, and if you are able to overlook its old gameplay you may encounter one of the best games of all time.
The first one I played all the way through was HR. I had played the original previously but hadn't really gotten that far. I really enjoyed HR, but after that I played the original proper and was just blown away. The original doesn't REALLY get going full steam until you get to Hong Kong, but when you do.... Oh my it's just divine. I would say that if the newer games help ease you into the series then that's just positive. You might end up playing one of the best games ever, period.
What happened to JC Denton?
Haven't played the deus ex series since the first one.
Play Invisible War - you'll see what happened to him ;)
IIRC the two modern deus ex are technically prequels, which is why Jensen is mechanically augmented more in the style of Gunther and Anna instead of nano augmented. JC didn't feature in Human Revolution as I remember.
The game takes place the same year JC was born.
+MightySavagE You recommended Invisible War to someone? That's cruel man.
edirhC No, because it's not a bad game. It's actually pretty good.
Hey man, can you pllllleeaaaasssee do some more Tech tails?? Do one about the Commodore or the Apple II?
good review !!!
How is the game in terms of end game playability? One thing that really disappointed me in HR is that once you finished the story, you couldn't really do a whole lot to just mess around, it wasn't very open world after that.
I'm curious if this game improves upon that at all.
Great video man, I thought Mankind Divided, was great.. Awesome, deep backstory, lore and atmosphere/environment.. I just think the core story wasn't the best.. Besides that, overall great game!
Just got it on the steam sale. $10 for all the Deus Ex games and dlc. Lol
Great game, however I think LGR is right about the ending. Its like that left it incomplete on purpose, to charge as DLC later.
i am now on my second play through what is the location @6:34 ? travos security has only a small office in the city i dont remember that place :0
is that in the bank???
Got the game on sale for $5.
Extremely pleasantly surprised.
Would have paid full price for this kind of replay-able experience
Easy to nab this nowadays for less than $10 with season pass included. Having played all of it, have to say the DLC is great. Much better than HR's DLC. Game was dissapointing storywise but still very good gameplay worth $10 easy.
