Dr. Guy, THANK YOU for taking the time to put this video together! You were recommended by a fellow cohort in my doctoral class and I must say, this video was a blessing! I am looking forward to watching additional videos and being able to share your page with others as it was done for me!
HI Giovanna! I'd like to bless you and your cohort. If you'd like me to send your cohort a care package, private message me your mailing address and I'll send some free goodies your way.
Thank you Dr White these tips are just great for me as a novice in research field. It makes things easier as one get lost in a pile of information. Thanks
Thank you for putting yourself out there and sharing such a well-structured video. You have just explained to me in full what synthesis means and how am I supposed to do it. The example you made about how synthesis should look like was an eyeopener. So I could not thank you enough and express enough what that means to me at this point. I am forever grateful. Please continue to publish these great videos, because they are lifesavers. Thank you and peace out.
Hilarious "the coffee's kicking in" - totally feel that! But that's part of the reason I'm grateful for your strategies in organising material. Still on phase one (gathering my material) but good to have this in the forefront of my mind
Astrid Coxon Sticking to the steps is so difficult when all you want to do is write write write and finish. Congrats for sticking with it, even though this is one of the most difficult projects you will ever do. Send me a question any time, Astrid!
Wow! This tutorial was very helpful. I just started my doctoral journey and we had our first assignment which was a synthesis essay based on articles that were given to us. My professor commented saying that she's knows I put a lot of work in my paper however it's more of a summary than a synthesis. Your tutorial helped. I wish you could have given more examples or elaborated a bit more. This doctoral degree is really hard. Although I just started, I'm ready to quit!
Pam, I hope you have not quit the process. I don't often make a direct recommendation like this, but I recommend you read my new book "The Dissertation Warrior." I have a feeling the first three chapters will make a huge impact. Cheers and blessings.
Jelena, thank you so much for your kind words. Here to help. Reach out any time! If you've not already checked it out, you might want to go to my website. On the "start here" page, I have a free training program that you might find interesting. Peace.
First video I watched from your channel and I immediately subscribed. It's so clear. I hope the panel will appreciate it and follow your pointers. Nevertheless, thank you sir! Cheers from the 🇵🇭
Thank you so much, I have TWO questions: when we find different theories related to our topic which ones do we select? Second, when a key concept in our topic has multiple definitions, processes, how can we focus on only one despite that most of the processes are related, e.g : Reading comprehension that means: extracting meaning, deep reading, synthesis, anlysis, evaluation, ...so on , please I am waiting for you an answer as soon as possible. THANK YOU AGAIN
Hello Dr. Guy, These resources are life savers. In your set of resources, do you have something on who to create an outline for the literature review? Also, what exactly are you referring to as quotes? They give me a general sense, but I don't wish to assume that I know what you're saying. Thanks for your response.
Dr. Guy, the major, major, major problem [PROBLEM], and I emphasize that problem in caps because for me my dissertation experience has been a nightmare of guessing games and painful frustration. As a PhD student I never received the proper instruction on how to write a dissertation. Although, I acknowledge that I received about 40 courses (estimated) of different topics. I ACED those topics. But dissertation writing was never part of the instruction process. I have searched for answers outside of the PhD curriculum to find the unlimited number of ways that I am expected to present my dissertation as a scholarly written document. I truly believe that PhD programs fall short, very, very short of properly training students and preparing them for this final stage of the doctoral program they are completing. Excuse me for partly venting my anger, disappointment, and disillusionment of the PhD process here. But it is an open forum. :) ... and thank you Dr. Guy for all you do to help PhD students make sense of this insane process. :)
Hi Delia! Thanks for watching this old video of me in my "hoodie phase!" I have MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH to say on this topic that you bring up. To summarize, though -- this is why I created my Accelerator Program. You should check it out: www.thedissertationmentor.com/store/oeL9WYdw Know that I am here to serve you! Let's keep this dialogue going. I want to help in any way I can.
Dr Guy, your videos are extremely helpful. From here in Scotland, thank you so much for taking the time to make them. I'm an undergrad and trying to incorporate your synthesis tips, but my health course has set a new honours project this year. They want us to conduct a literature review for a target journal, written in the style of that journal. Unfortunately, the journals we can choose from have a maximum of 25 references (excluding papers reviewed, mercifully, but it will still affect the introduction and discussion sections) in a 5000 word paper. The lecturers seemed unaware of this detail until I brought it up so I'm a little concerned that it might not be taken into consideration when marking. Either way, it's a little difficult to use multiple references to substantiate a claim and it's antithesis as you do in this video with reference restrictions. Do you have any tips which could help make this easier?

I bought the book. I love it!
Thank you so much Dr. Guy for this simple and friendly illustration of an important topic for academic researchers.
Thank you, this video was very helpful in highlighting the clear distinctions between good versus poor synthesis formatting.
Thank you Dr Guy.
Thank you for your elaborate and thoughtful video! This was such a great explanation
