      Well, a reasonable claim could be that some of these emotions are not actually present in the mines of others at the time. My evidence from the first movie is that Riley runs away from home and doesn't answer her parents' phone calls. This leads to some anxiety and at the same time anxiety among the parents, but we do not see that it has not previously been shown in the minds of the parents themselves. While you could argue that it's still a foregone conclusion if the new emotions shown in Inside Out 2 still exist in the first film, the father's anxiety really comes out of nowhere when something goes wrong, so it could be an act , which the new emotions come when something happens.
      But long story short, since it's just a movie, I don't even know¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. I don't think they stop existing when we mature, it's more like we can control them better.
    2. We see inside the mind of a teenager in Inside Out 1, and they are very anxiety-stricken on the inside about not being "cool" enough, and there were still just the five we see.

      The best part is the movie didn't just act like the first movie doesn't exists. It's a true sequel that just expands on the original idea. Dude was just upset that new characters were introduced? But these new emotions make sense to not have as a kid or at least not have them be a huge part. At the end of the sequel the end scene shows her dad has Anxiety still, he was just hidden and didn't have a dedicated seat. This is why people need to wait until they've experienced something to judge.

  • @lazylexy2123
    @lazylexy2123 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1826

    There's a simple explanation for this.
    The new emotions introduced in the second movie weren't relevant to the plot of the first movie, so to fully design and animate them (and hire voice actors) for a few minor scenes in the heads of the supporting and tertiary characters would be a waste of time and resources.
    So it's safe to assume that they are present in the heads of the other characters, just out of shot.

    • @paradoxine6287
      @paradoxine6287 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +105

      Exactly. Or they could not be there because they are temporary. Adults may lose those new emotions, but hey. I get anxiety and I'm an adult, so I can say it depends on the person.

    • @lazylexy2123
      @lazylexy2123 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +59

      @@paradoxine6287 I wouldn't even say that they're temporary. All emotions exist inside everyone, it's the person's personality that determines which emotions take front and centre, and which get sidelined.
      The evidence is in the first Movie. With Joy being the centre stage of Riley's mind, Sadness being centre stage of the Mother's mind, and Anger being centre stage of the Dad's mind. All 3 of them had all 5 emotions (relevant to the first movie), but it was clear which ones were more dominant in their minds.
      Anyone can experience Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment, or Envy... It just takes a very specific situation for it to occur.
      Riley is young and has just started a new life in San Fran, so Anxiety is bound to set in, but for the parents, they've probably moved places several times in their life, so Anxiety will barely be a problem in this kind of situation.

    • @the_indecisiveartist_5850

    It's not just that we explicitly see like a dozen people's minds and they ALL have the core five in the original movie - it's also like we're pretending the climax of the first movie literally didn't exist.
    The ENTIRE POINT of the first movie is that Riley, as a child, thinks and feels in simple terms, and her "default" state is pure joy. She essentially sees the other emotions, especially Sadness, as obstacles in the way of Joy, or brief stepping stones back to the default of Joy (hence why Joy is so controlling.)
    The end of the film is Riley maturing and feeling and understanding more complex emotions - represented my memories that are no longer a single simple color, but combinations of colors. She accepts not only that she can have Core Memories other than Joyful ones, but that some memories can be more than one emotion.
    Would all these "new" emotions introduced in the 2nd film not fall under the umbrella of these complex combinations of emotions?? Fear and anxiety? Disgust and envy? Sadness and Ennui?

Anxiety could be a mixture of fear and sadness. As teenagers we can't control our emotions that well and they take control on their own.

Envy is easily anger, disgust, perhaps a bit of sadness as well?
      Ennui... I'm not really clear on what it is people have said boredom sort of?... Dispondance is what I see looking at the character, which makes me more inclined to think of when the console went grey, but not as serious, because it seems to be a feeling of being disconnected from the world.

    Im a teenager, I didn’t have all these emotions UNTIL my teenage years. That’s why we don’t see them early on, as a kid, everything seems magical and easy, once we get older, these complex emotions hit us and we don’t know how to handle it. That’s where the anxiety, embarrassment, and the others come in. Once you’re an adult, you’re more than likely to not experience these that strongly, as you’ve worked it out, but as a teenager you don’t know that.
    Edit: for clarification, I did indeed experience envy and embarrassment and boredom, but it wasn’t that present until I was in my teen years. My childhood was for the most part really good, I had little to no trauma until I reached 12-13 years old. Obviously as an adult you will experience these too, but usually by then, life has sorted out and managing all these isn’t much of an issue if you have healthy coping skills.

    For everyone saying that these are teenage emotions and that they'll fade away or whatever when she gets older, you do realise that adults can be embaressed. Adults can get anxious. They don't just lose the ability to feel these emotions and you don't just suddenly gain them when you turn 12 either. Hell, I remember being embaressed by things way before then. What happened is that, for whatever reason, they desperately wanted anxiety to be its own character. Pretty much all of the new emotions are just subsets of the existing ones. The ending of inside out 1 showed that life is often a mix of emotions. That was the whole point. Riley's first mixed memory was of happiness and saddness, the two emotions that are the most opposite. And then we see that many of her new core memories are mixed of emotions. What makes infinitely more sence is her gaining new personality islands, not new fucking emotions.

And plus the emotions r there in the parents mind too. And actually anxiety made a comment abt seeing Riley's moments which were supposed to be moments in inside out 1. Yeah, Disney and Pixar have been writing sequels that throw out the point of the first movie for years. Frozen 1 was about how Elsa belonged in Arendelle even though she had ice powers. Frozen 2 was about how she didn't belong in Arendelle. Wreck it Ralph was all, "Don't go turbo! Stay in your game!" and the sequel was like, "If Vanellope wants to leave her game, you have to let her go."

      Lol I was really worried about this happening as well but I watched the movie and thankfully they didn’t do that, like anxiety literally explains how she’s different than fear. Emotions are really complicated and so sometimes it seems like they are experiencing something like joy when it’s something different, for example when people nervous laugh or smile when they aren’t really happy. And this is also shown when Anxiety is making Riley mask. It’s not that some of the emotions replaced the others the whole plot is Anxiety gets carried away and worries about the more “simplified” emotions not being what Riley needs so she tries to take over and causes a chemical imbalance (in other words a disorder, and in the movie’s case I am pretty sure its Social Anxiety disorder) I went to watch the movie expecting to give it a 0/10 maybe a 2/10 at best but I ended up rating it a 9/10 because yea it’s not perfect and has some ploy holes but they really depicted the emotion Anxiety vs an anxiety disorder really well so I highly recommend checking it out even if you have low expectations

      Sure it does. Your DNA is a result of mixing the DNA of your parents. And yet you are a unique, distinct, and separate entity from your parents.
      On a different note. Obviously they added the new emotions so the movie would be new, interesting, and fresh (and more characters = more merch). Most people enjoyed the first movie, so it all depends on how well they develop the lore for the new emotions. After all, real people have many more than 5 emotions and can experience them all in different ways. Still, I also hold some reservations about a sequel.
      Perhaps they might have introduced the other emotions via cameos in the first movie, but that would have required knowledge that there would be a sequel, though it was alluded to slightly at the end with the new console. Still, creativity and ideas don't flow linearly and pop into our heads randomly so it makes sense that there is some discontinuity since the whole series is completely original and not based on some already completed story.

      @@annaYnation2554 dude, literally they can explain all that in the actual trama of the movie that is about you know why new emotions came out to us? lmao. why would you in the first place get to do a video saying that the movie doesnt make sense because of 3 videos of like 1:30 mins, also they kinda explain that in the same trailers, when we see that the anxiety in the dads head is not in the central plane and it gets there from nowhere, we also see that they can hide emotions like nostalgia so Am I not seeing the trailers or this video is just bullshit because the author want views lmao

    Agreed, you summed up my feelings on this matter perfectly. Going by the rules established in the first movie, I feel like these new emotions should be fusion or subsets of the Core Five in the same way that Joy & Sadness combined to create Melancholy (Embarrassment should be a fusion of Fear & Disgust, Envy a fusion of Disgust & Anger, Anxiety perhaps a fusion of Fear & Sadness, and Ennui could maybe be a fusion of Sadness & Disgust).

    Simple. Adults have got past puberty/what Riley is going through, and some kids didn’t hit puberty yet. Adults have learned to control those emotions.

    Riley is turning 13, a teenager. We all know teenagers emotions are always very complicated and they are at an age where puberty starts. Everything becomes hard to manage. Overwhelming. After teenage years, people tends to be more control of their emotions. Core emotions tends to settle down

    There is actually a clip that shows the dad having an anxiety emotion in his head. I wouldn't say this is a retcon, as the emotions are still there, but they're just not part of the main emotions in headquarters. I see it as those emotions come and go, but the main 5 are always there in control.

    • @saribeepo.o5111
      @saribeepo.o5111 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's retcomned because he didn't have the emotions before. Even if you want to try to say they only show up as needed, the fact that they were moving across state would have meant anxiety showed up and mom was having to put out so have fires would have been reason for anxiety to show up. She didn't, because she didn't exist because per the first movie there are 5 basic emotions.

    I was thinking that since Riley's mom is an adult. She grew out of those emotions cause emotions like anxiety, envy and embarrassment are supposed to be things that you can control a lot better when you're older and more mature

      As a person with a diagnosed anxiety disorder I actually think the way they portrayed severe anxiety was accurate. Anxiety seriously can override everything else in severe cases, the safety mechanism turns into a deeply ingrained fear of ever making a mistake. One of the best portrayals of anxiety I’ve ever seen in a movie.

    • @titanomachy2217
      @titanomachy2217 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Mr.sweetea I do too and I dunno, I've never felt like I was skied up from anxiety or a panic attack. I've done meth and the high from that seems more like this wide-eyed and excited little guy. If I were to visualize anxiety as a person, he'd be trying to make himself small over in the corner, not looking at anybody and trying not to be noticed. Wouldn't make for a very fun and colorful character. Haha whereas this thing reminds me of Tweak from South Park. Fear already seemed to cover anxiety in the first movie, I mean that's how he acts more often than acting downright terrified, since most of the time there isn't anything posing any potential threat to him so he's just prone to worrying about little things. I feel like they could have picked some better new emotions that don't overlap with the pre-existing ones, feelings that are actually new to you as a teenager, but then again I guess having a character named "Arousal" or "Horny" or something wouldn't be appropriate for a kid's film. Hmm what else...the only other feeling I can think of that is new to you as a teenager is bloodlust, like real, homicidal rage like you can't experience as a child. So...Lust and Bloodlust...not exactly characters fit for a kid's film, so it's understandable that they instead picked emotions that aren't new to you as a teenager, but they do tend to become more intense since you start worrying about your value on the sexual marketplace, so to speak, making embarrassment much worse than when you aren't interested in trying to impress the opposite sex or whatever, and envy is worse when it is romance or sex-related than any kind of envy children experience, so that makes sense I suppose. And what are the other new ones? Awe? Is that one of them? I forget.
