Nicolas is one of the hardest working patreon hosts on patreon. He has interesting, more relaxed videos that he puts on patreon weekly and lets you know ahead, all his interesting plans. Definitely a good deal being a member of patreon! There is even a video of the elusive Vanessa.

Ditch the painting above the fireplace. Looks like grandmas house. In your travels, purchase a piece of art that makes you so happy! Then, for a more modern look, just prop it up on the mantle and don’t frame it.

I agree. Since you kind of don't like it maybe you want to look at replacing the "electric fire" module with a different one. I have a very realistic one that looks "real", puts out heat very inexpensively, and also "crackles" like a real fireplace.

    • @barbarafairbanks4578
      @barbarafairbanks4578 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I agree. Install an updated, better performing firebox and use it as a focal point that will also lend some function to the room and some warmth.
The boxes stacked in front of the fireplace look, imo, like they should be jnside the firebox, making a roaring fire, lol .
Love the rug - it adds a lot, and the fine black lines mimicked in the prints compliments the rug and vice versa.
I agree that the round skirted table is outdated and dominates that corner of the room.
Although that round shape in the room lends some relief to existing straight lines and sharp corners, perhaps a chaise with a very subtle, softly rounded profile (trending right now) would maintain some curves in the room without overwhelming it.
Lightening up the walls with a beautiful shade of white would be lovely ;))... there are so many beautiful shades of white to choose from!

    Hello Nicolas,
there are three things I absolutely like because they are not so often to find here in Germany:
    1. An open fireplace
    2. Symmetry interior
    3. Typical british style.
Therefore I would never hide such a phantastic fireplace.
In our home I just try to introduce symmetry and more and more british home furnishings.
By the way: I made a real bargain and for some days now our kitchen is the place for a new Kitchenaid Artisan - in red.
Guess where I got the idea !

Looking awesome! From afar. 🇨🇦 I see face the tortoise should face out into the room, place the mantle mini floral between the center and end of frame as it sits on the end of the mantle alone. Move the arrangement of candle stick and holders together on the coffee table to take up less space and look like a cluster. Do not block the fireplace you are so fortunate to have with baskets perhaps use candles to fill up that space. Embrace the luxury of you home. ❤️❤️

Love Ur new Tea for 1..Tea Set!!.. It's gorgeous!!...
    On a side note... Symmetry is not the only way we can achieve "Balance".. "asymmetrical balance" may also be achieved with ascending and descending ANGLES...which I can see very clearly in Ur new stage of design.. sometimes we like and create things subconsciously... (;
The new pops of bright green also bring in the natural energy of the outdoors..which I know Ur fond of... Agreed..I think the chaise should be a muted sagey color.. I see these greens in the central painting above the fireplace.. and the sisal rug "grounds" the entire space...
When we design and style with our "hearts"...everything always "clicks"... Enjoy!!..

It's obviously a very small room and I do like the furnishings and "romantic" feel. A lighter wall paint will definitely brighten things up in the corner. The only thing that throws me however, is the lycra coffee table. Perhaps something with real glass would still give the see-thru element without looking plastic? The room is too elegant for that piece. (Any chance a fancy mirror over the fireplace mantel would work? It would add more light, but obviously I don't know what would be reflected.) Can't wait to see new look!

Although I love the F&M baskets... I would have them a little to the side of the fireplace. I think the brass of the fireplace screen gives the pop of reflacted light and blends with the candlestick. ANd I know you think the paint color is dark.... I call it moody . Moody= sexy! And with the new green chase and reading lamp would be masculine moody.

Hello Nicholas, love the adjustments to the livingroom. The only part I don't like are the baskets in front of the fireplace. They are a tad rickety and battered. I would either put a nice, full green plant in front of the fireplace or move the chaise back towards the fireplace. The baskets also take away from chaise as it is very pretty and it does not look good in front of them. Hope you don't mind I making a suggestion. Thank you for sharing.

I always look forward to a new episode. The new paint color will be excellent peppered with that chaise, should be delicious. Elegant minimalism means for me to pare down to a balance. Keep the fabric, you may have a use for it later.
BTW, have you thought about a proper smoking jacket to relax in? You would need a proper watch. I would recommend a Frederique Constant thin quartz, the 37 mm gold with the white waffle face. It is elegant with a dark green, blue or maroon smoking jacket. These watches, mine at least I bought at a heavy discount and I adore it.
As to tea sets, I prefer Royal Doulton. My issue is that I drop things.
I am trying for Las Vegas desert southwest as my design. Bold and dramatic elements to lead the eye. My final addition will be a 1960s aristocrat slot machine.

May I suggest you place the bookcase in the corner (will not impact on bench space at fireplace and will hug the corner) and your chaise at the window with the light from the window and your floor lamp for the dark nights. I would also swap the round table in the window for the desk side on to the window again for more light. The wall unit at your front door if it's still there can equally work on the opposite wall. A little basket on the desk will take the door keys on reentry.

I love what you have done with your living room so far, especially the rug. I am redoing my living room at present, making it a comfy & pleasant room to sit in. I upcycled an old chest of drawers into a side board by placing it against a wall horizontally & removing the drawers. I use the spaces where the drawers were for my files, folders & stationery. I covered the top with muslin & placed some ornaments on it. Thank you, Nicolas for once again taking the time to share & show what you have been doing. It is always a pleasure to get one of your videos. 💚✌

Love the new rug and simplified decor. The fireplace, even though it’s electric, is an elegant and timeless look and the baskets in front of it aren’t a favorite of mine.

I agree. I love the simplicity of the fireplace and it opens the room. A nice plant on the front on the floor might be cleaner.

I agree. It blocks the flow of the room and It’s like hiding something that must be broken. The green chaise in that corner sounds beautiful. I love fireplaces but if they are not functional large 3 white candles that are 3 different heights look great and give the “feel” of a functional fireplace.

Thinking a hand painted fire board that completely hides the enclosure and that sits on the floor would look more artistic and attractive. Taking up less space also.

I have had sisal rugs in the past but find seagrass more durable … personally I prefer a beige rather than black border. Since you are going more modern in your decor, I would definitely change the frame on the art piece above the fireplace … just a thought.

Love the new rug! I do not care for the small acrylic coffee table. The book is also way too large for your coffee table. Several smaller books would look better. The bench is also too large and the fireplace looked much better without the baskets stacked in front of it. Also a new solid blanket would be lovely in a blue or dark green. These are professional tips not just random ideas. The best to you!

Thoughts….. get rid of the table lamps. Floor lamps are more spacious but give atmosphere.
The baskets just draw attention bro the fire. What about shutter type screen? Get rid of the plant round table. Put the bench in the window as a window seat with cushions at the back.
Put tables by the sofas or chair not in the middle of the room . More convenient and makes it more modern and spacious.
Also I know you love the painting over the fireplace but it’s heavy and dated IMO. Get a lovely mirror. One that looks like a Georgian window. .
Hope you don’t mind the suggestions

Nice program, I like your sharing of the thought process that fueled the changes. I agree the wall color should be lighter. I’d be concerned a white (always a good choice) won’t give enough contrast with the mantle & bookcase. Maybe go warmer vs cooler? While A cool Grayish white is neutral and masculine, and has had great popularity the last decade, its moving out in the area of domestic trends here in USA. It tends to be a bit dreary mimicking a cloudy sky I grew tired of it. If I want to surround myself in that color I go outside to see stone & sky on a rainy day. As a designer, I learned to keep the outdoor outdoors. Inside, surround yourself with something that uplifts mood and energizes you. What about a blue? White with blue-Ish undertones. Look at the colors in that fabulous landscape over the fireplace. Pull a subtle hue from it & wash it across the wall like a water color. Just sharing my thoughts. I’m sure it will turn out beautiful.
