Great shout about consumables. Until I started hobbying a little more, I had no idea how nice it was to regularly change my sanding twigs and X-acto blades. I basically pop a new one every time I use each of those tools, so I go through them like I'm eating them as snacks. I would never be sad to get more of either. After snooping at your recipient's workbench, you might learn that wet palette sponges and/or papers could go into the consumables category as well. If you see a can of GW primer around your loved one's hobby space, then you know someone with deeeeluxe taste in spray paint, and they are *going* to need another can of the stuff. A painting handle that can stand on a table is nice - if you don't have one, using a painting handle can be a nice upgrade. If you do already have one, two let you have more than one model on the go. A wet palette or magnifiers can also be a fun "I thought you could try it out" gift if the recipient doesn't already have one. I've also heard good things about the Citadel spray stick, which is a device I would never buy for myself but wouldn't say no to. Little skulls - you know, Khorne tufts - are almost always useful.
Great video! I specifically passed on the Warhammer 40K Encyclopedia, as it would make a great gift from a family member or friend. Did you mention gift cards from the Friendly Local Gaming Store or Amazon? That way the gamer can buy whatever they want or need. If they don't already have the paint organizers for their containers if paint on their desk, that could be another good idea. If they don't have a good light/lamp for their desk, a lamp that is easy on the eyes might be the perfect gift they didn't even know they needed yet. If the gifter wants to go big or go home, an adjustable height desk is a game changer for a model painter. They can paint sitting down or standing up. Model storage, both for in their painting space and/of transportation of the finished models to and from wherever they are gaming at is another good choice. If they use an airbrush, a booth specifically made to paint with one, that includes a filter and fan to clear the air would be an amazing option.
It’s always tough for a non-hobbyist to figure out what to buy for a warhammer enthusiast. Making a wishlist is hard as well, we often don’t even know what we need. Do we really *need* more Warhammer? That’s life’s biggest question. But when it’s gifted, we won’t complain.
the paints as a gift are absolutely true, I've recently converted over to proacryl and after I put rogue hobbies' paint collection on my christmas list, i went through what I already have and realized I had 2 paints from that set. Speaking of proacryl, I just tried out their new spray paint and I'm going to try and make it a part of my process now.
Thank you for this, I have a young teen grandson who is obsessed with Warhammer, I'm into miniatures, building dioramas and the likes and usually want hobby adjacent stuff like tools for building with wood or paints and terrain items, I'm hoping you will point me in the direction of some Warhammer adjacent items that would be appreciated by my grandson.
