@@cloudninjas Would you really notice any difference if you populate 2 sticks per CPU? i mean i have 4x 32GB DIMMs to run the Hypervisor and its running over iSCSI.
I'd recommend going with something newer. You can realistically get the R720 at the same price. And even the R730, which is based on DDR4, has come down. I am a total noob with this server stuff. So if we can only install 12 32g sticks can we put something smaller in the other slots or do they all have to be the same size?
These servers are fading out, my first (well second) rendering was this, among a 385 g6 had 6core ddr2 like the r805. Still using it as a game hosting server. So many tears to spend.
2TB drives are the largest drives supported by the Dell PowerEdge R710 server according to Dell. However, I have seen people use as high as 10TB SATA. Need latest FW and H700 controller. Good luck!
Sorry only seen it know if you could make a video on it as i would like to install a 10tb in my poweredge r710 and why is it that i cant use a different raid card with higher speeds

@@VioletDragonsProjects with 4 DIMMs total... as long as they are all in different memory channels then you are in good shape.

That will not work. That is load reduced. You need ECC Registered. I'll add a link to what you want in next comment.

Great question. Unfortunately not. 12 x 32GB is the max and would leave last slot of memory channel empty.

Yes their heyday in the sun has set long ago. We still support components for them but don't build them anymore.

For instance with R720 8 Bay LFF... you have to jump to R720xd to get 12 Bays...
