    Tip: the 5600 series has 10 more pins on the socket than the e5 2400 v1/2

      @@cloudninjas recently bought one to go in my rack to host mail and Web servers for my business and my parents business. Was using a DIY E3-1220v2 with 32gb of RAM but 32gb is not enough for me no more

      @@cloudninjas Would you really notice any difference if you populate 2 sticks per CPU? i mean i have 4x 32GB DIMMs to run the Hypervisor and its running over iSCSI.

      @@VioletDragonsProjects with 4 DIMMs total... as long as they are all in different memory channels then you are in good shape.

    Hi,
    Does it worth buying 710 in 2023 for home lab purposes ?

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd recommend going with something newer. You can realistically get the R720 at the same price. And even the R730, which is based on DDR4, has come down. We are running specials right now on the R730 8 Bay SFF. Check out our deals of the week page - cloudninjas.com/collections/cloud-ninjas-deals-of-the-week

    This may be a weird question, but what is the stick/plunger looking thing on the right side of the screen in this video for?

    Will the following RAM work on the r710: Kingston 32Gb 4Rx4 PC3L-12800L ECC REG Server Memory - SL32D3L16L11Q4? Where can I purchase the RAM trays you you're using in you video?

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That will not work. That is load reduced. You need ECC Registered. I'll add a link to what you want in next comment.

      I recommend going with the the 1333MT/s option as that is true fastest speed. Here is the kit you would want to max out your R710: cloudninjas.com/products/dell-384gb-12-x-32gb-ddr3-1333-mhz-pc3-10600r-ecc-registered-server-memory-upgrade-kit

    I am a total noob with this server stuff. So if we can only install 12 32g sticks can we put something smaller in the other slots or do they all have to be the same size?

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Unfortunately not. 12 x 32GB is the max and would leave last slot of memory channel empty.

    These servers are fading out, my first (well second) rendering was this, among a 385 g6 had 6core ddr2 like the r805. Still using it as a game hosting server. So many tears to spend.

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes their heyday in the sun has set long ago. We still support components for them but don't build them anymore.

    Are there out 4 sff bays sold separately (im thinking about making a 12 bay sff)...

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe so...

    • @cloudninjas
      @cloudninjas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For instance with R720 8 Bay LFF... you have to jump to R720xd to get 12 Bays...

    • @cloudninjas

      2TB drives are the largest drives supported by the Dell PowerEdge R710 server according to Dell. However, I have seen people use as high as 10TB SATA. Need latest FW and H700 controller. Good luck!
