Can confirm irons can melt fabrics with ANY plastic in them. If you're not working with purely natural fabrics (cotton, wool, bamboo, animal fur, real leather) then a too hot iron is going to burn through the plastic if left there too long :/ if I'm ever working with synthetics I NEVER set my iron to a setting higher than 2/3 of the max heat it can go to and I take it REALLY slowly. I'm no physicist but my rule is always: unless you know the fabric is 100% natural all the way through, never set it to a high temperature when ironing. Go halfway at most and turn it up as you need SLOWLY. That being said, making ALL of Yasha's entire level 20 outfit in 6 fucking days???? HUGELY IMPRESSIVE even with the setbacks (and tbh I've never met a CR cosplayer who didn't have a million things go wrong with their outfit). You did amazing!!! And hey it's a learning process with making stuff, just be sure to take it slowly next time if you can :) Well done either way tho!! It looks amazing!
your energy is so infectious and refreshing! Your videos have been keeping me company while I craft my own stuff for Comic Con Africa in... a month holy shit
That happened to me one time when I was working with Micro Suede. I had my iron up too high and it melted a hole in my fabric, like 1 inch hole. Luckily I was folding it so I had a line to trim it and I could cut off the piece anyway
If you want a straight-looking stitch that can stretch, try a satin stitch! It's a really narrow, really tightly done zig-zag stitch. you make your stitch length almost 0, and take your stitch width as low as you can get it, and you can also use it to completely cover the edges of anything you topstitch on to make the connection look real crisp~
incredible!!! im always so impressed when critters pull together these super detailed cosplays. im sorry the wig didnt work out like you’d hoped but it still looks wonderful with the costume!
the build turned out stunning! and tbh I love critters so much, like everyone is so passionate and eager to make friends and it's just so fun and welcoming. I love seeing stuff like this
This is so awesome to watch- there's something so fun about super fast builds though. And love looking back on it and thinking about what to do differently next time!
This is so good! Love seeing your process on how you are making your Yasha! i'm also making a yasha cosplay but haven't seen many people post anything besides pictures. The heat n Bond for the straps are so smart, going to definately be doing that for mine!
The iron heat was too hot for a prolonged period. Most mesh/stretch fabrics are made from a poly fibre, and prolonged exposure to heat above 30 degrees will affect it. Usually just 3 seconds hover is more than enough to get things bonded. Anything above that, the iron will attack (do it again)
Usually you don't have to cut metal rods for 3D prints, you just have to buy it in the correct length. All the ones I've ever gotten are designed with the standard length you buy in a store in mind. If it popped off that easily, I would just carefully disassemble the entire thing and try with metal rods instead. :(
Gosh I don’t have these skills…. Wish I had these skills… if I did I would have made jester ages ago… but I’ll just be the sprinkle to peoples Jester with the onesie that was totally worth the buy. ❤
My biggest life saver when topstitching things like your straps are dual needles! Its a pair of parallel needles that sew at the same time so you dont have to do both sides individually!
This was so fun to watch, I love these super long build videos for when I craft on my own projects. Do you think you could invest in a little mic for the future? It would be easier to hear what you're saying :)
It was so fun in a earlier vid to see like a cr shirt and go "heyy a critter" and here you are, making a full video on it :D Nice! I went to the London live show, do you have any plans of seeing them live?
That heat and bond is meant to be lower heat for delicate and it should be like 2-3 seconds of pressing. I'm not that familiar with power mesh, but my guess is it requires a low heat setting
Ah! I love this! I have yet to check out Critical Role >n< But this Yasha cosplay has piqued my interest. I really love all of your videos! Also, I screamed, you have my artwork next to your sewing machine xD The pink Oekaki Girl postcard >u< Thank you so much! XOXOXOXOXO Are you going to AX?
i love this cosplay!! honestly i’ve never had the alcohol marker method NOT bleed when it comes to dyeing wigs, i’m starting to think people are lying when they say they swear by it. it’s such a messy process lol

This was sooo fun to watch! not only super cool to see all the crafting process, but always delightful to see critters being critters.
Thanks so much!
Speed builds are always inspiring, great job Simrell!
Thank you!! 😊

thank you! and same, it's really energizing to have something completed so quickly :3 but so much i'd do different if i took my time lol
This was fascinating and had some real emotional depth. Also dogs.

yesyesyesyes i fricking love yasha!

Lol yeah I started looking for lav mics when editing this for that same reason 😅

commenting for the love and views
Damn it now I want to organize a CR meet up here in France. Ik we're at least 10, that's enought for a meet up, right :)) ? Love the final costume!
DO IT! it was so fun!
I think the iron problem was that it was left a bit too long on the fabric, maybe ?
oh heck 😩 it didn't feel any longer than the other times but I wasn't timing myself haha
Too long or too hot or both. The iron melted the powermesh.
too long with the full pressure of its own weight staying in the same place concentrating the heat?

OMG I LOVE YOUR ART SO MUCH !!!!!! 😳💞 and yes I'll be at AX! i hope you'll be in artist alley so i can get more from you hehe
@@simrell Yes :D I shall be in Artist Alley table F28. Can't wait to see what awesome cosplay you'll create for AX >3
Might I suggest heat erasable pens? :]
47:59 I'M WATCHING THIS WHILE MAKING A HOMESTUCK COSPLAY.
Was the sword made of resin? Why the glue didn't work as predicted prolly due to the mold released, which means it wasn't truly 3-D printed
i love this cosplay!! honestly i’ve never had the alcohol marker method NOT bleed when it comes to dyeing wigs, i’m starting to think people are lying when they say they swear by it. it’s such a messy process lol
OKAY LOL good to know, then maybe it wasn't just me
u indeed look very mighty
*flexes*
Ever leave your iron sitting on your fabric,
