  • We chose to install the well pump ourselves, so now that our well had been drilled, the next step is to install the pitless adapter. We'll show you what it is, why we need it, how we installed it and why we won't be using it just yet anyway!

    I made my removal tool with 1/2” pipe to make it lighter. I just put an adapter to 1” near the pitless. Getting ready to do my daughter’s well. Thanks for video!

    well done Matt and Diana
    always remember fitting in your left hand tape in the right hand wrap tape clock wise

  • @joeadams7857
    @joeadams7857 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    When using thread tape, an easy way to remember which direction to put it on is to spin the pipe or fitting in the direction of installation while holding the tape in one place. As you spin the fitting it will pull more tape off the roll and as long as you spin the fitting the same direction as when you install it, you will always be correct.

      Oh I like that. Makes perfect sense, thank you!

      Was going to say this exact thing. Pretend you’re screwing it in with one hand while holding the tape with the other

    Good explanation of a pitless adapter. Nice job.

    3:36 "and this is what's going to screw into... uh, this piece. ::contemplation:: It's not, it's the wrong fitting. ::intensifies:: No it is" thanks for keeping that brain malfunction in the cut 🤣a penny for every time I've had a moment like that trying to DIY some plumbing project! 🙃

      Oh my goodness, it happens more than I care to admit! No matter how much preparation you’ve done, sometimes it just takes a minute for your brain to catch up 🤣

    Excellent video, just what I needed. I have to replace our pitless as it is leaking and new O-rings don't help. Apparently, the brass with our slightly acidic water (or was it alkaline? Anyway not neutral) ) will degrade over time. Our well is 25 years old. I am planning on going with a stainless steel pitless.

    Run the drill in reverse to start out with with a bit in the steel it will put a Groove into it and then run it the other direction to actually punch the hole

      Thanks! I've just been out plowing our driveway with the tractor. It's about 37°F so although it's still snowing, it's not settling as much. Stay safe!

    Excellent job and great demonstration of this entire process. I am getting ready to do ours here in Montana this weekend and this has been very helpful. Best video on this topic I have seen, and I've been through quite a few of them 😊 Eric PS- one hurdle I have is that we have artesian flow of water coming out the top with about a 3 gpm head pressure. I think I am going to sink a pump hose down below so the water, or at least not as much, isn't flowing out the top and the side as we drill the hole and install the pitless adapter😅

      @AdventurousWay  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the kind words!
      That kind of water flow sounds like a nice problem to have. Curious though what happens in winter?

    • @websuitemedia
      @websuitemedia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @AdventurousWay yes, it would freeze. That is why we are putting the pitless in down 6 ft. Then we'll run that to our heated utility shed with the pressure tank. Cheers!

    You got lucky there but seriously when drilling, especially metal and oil potentially flying about, safety glasses are something you should not go without. I'd probably not fire one of my employees if I saw them doing what you were, the first time, but we'd definitely have to have a serious talk.

    Why not use a brass barb

      @@AdventurousWay coming of the pitless adapter to the suction line instead of ss just use brass to brass tape and dope is not gonna stop electrolysis. You need a dielectric union, but brass is better then steel so just use brass next time.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, for the stubbed supply line on the outside of pitless adapter? Yes, you're right, I probably should have used brass there. The SS was probably just what I had on hand at that point, but we'll be replacing that with the real supply line soon anyway so I can switch it to brass then. Good spot!

    If it was me I’d be concerned about losing the part that goes inside. I’d have to leave it attached to the 10’ pipe.😬

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The piece of pipe was good insurance to make sure it didn't fall out while installing, and once it's in there, it's nice and secure! I hope 🙈
