Oppressive heat, humidity, heart breaking poverty, violent crime, kidnapping are ignored in this video.

Yeah, take this video with a grain of salt. Living in thailand on $500 for a westerner would be barely making it. For $1500 you could live comfortibly if you aren't partying. I have a house in chiangmai. You can eat for 100 baht no problem. Thats about $2.70 usd for one meal, so a day will cost you, $8ish, lets make that $10. Thats $300 for a month if you don't drink alcohol. You can't cook at home cheaper unless you are just eating rice. If your rent is $300 which is doable for a month for something tiny, you gota electric bill, and internet, and water. You haven't included transportation, or entertainment. Also, in thailand you have to have X amount of money in a thai bank in order to qualify to get a retirement visa. Trust me, the video is fantasyland. My niece grew up on a farm. She lived in our house and went to school in Chiangmai. That girl is frugal and no way she could live on $500 if she had to pay rent....

Agree with everything you're saying. Indeed, 300 bucks is a lot for a place (in Thailand) with utilities not included. Looks like this youtube channel purposely and grossly deceives its watchers.
Albania was an affordable country before 1992. Unless you want to live in a village close to the mountains, this country is expensive for a tourist (it's not Nicaragua or Nepal). In 2023 I lived for almost 3 weeks in Vlora, in a private accommodation (a small apartment, that is, not a hotel). Landlords in this touristy town are as greedy as a typical NYC landlord. Sure, utilities were included (with a few, infrequent power cuts "on the house") but the price (USD 200 for 18 days) was steep for a modest apt. with no view to the sea. And groceries in Albania are expensive because most of them (even eggs) are imported. And one last thing: you're screwed if you don't always have cash on you in Albania. Besides 5-star hotels, table cloth diners, and supermarkets (although not all them), no one accepts your credit/debit card.

Charming city of Vientiane ... That is something new to me :D As someone who visits Vientiane every week for 4 years now, i can tell many things about the city, but Charming is not the first word which comes in mind about it ...
Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang is Charming. The Capital is just the capital of the Country, nothing special ...

Living in the Philippines is very affordable. MY one thought is managing your money. Being able to access it. Yes ATM's are available with its fee...but its available everywhere. One problem I have encountered is if the ATM encounters a "problem" with your card it will retain your card. Meaning the bank will have to open the ATM to return it to you.. My suggestion is use the same bank atm . So if there is a problem you have established a relationship with that bank.

The issue in the Philippines for me is it doesn't have the infrastructure Thailand has. Accommodations are primitive unless you are in a 5 star. For sure you can live cheaply but its a laugh at the level of how foreigners live there.
My wifes family are farmers and live old school style but even they live at a higher standard than I see many expats living in the Philippines. I'm 62, my wifes 40. We have no desire to live in a hut.

Some countries require you to have at least $50,000 in savings to even apply for a visa unless you married someone in that country
