  • How to Care for Your Night Guard
The Night Guard that was custom made for you is a hard clear acrylic exterior with a hygienic soft thermoplastic inner lining. Please follow these instructions, as well as instructions provided by your dentist for optimal results in use and longevity of your appliance.
    Wear:
    • Brush and floss your teeth before insertion.
    • When placing guard in. If guard feels tight, place the appliance in warm water for 15-20 seconds. This will quickly soften the inner lining allowing for ease of placement.
    Care:
    • Upon removal, the appliance may be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste. Or antibacterial hand soap.
    • Use care not to brush too abrasively on the soft inner lining. DO NOT use an abrasive tooth brush i.e. Denture tooth brush
    • NEVER soak your appliance in mouthwash, or alcohol based rinses
    • NEVER soak your appliance in bleach or harsh chemicals
    • NEVER boil your appliance, it can distort.
    • Keep appliance away from animals. They will chew appliance.
    • Your appliance can be soaked in a denture cleaner for a maximum of 20 min, 1 time a week
    • Store your night guard in a dry case when not in use
    Replacement:
    • Over time the appliance can discolor due to age.
    • Guards should be brought in at your annual exam to a sure it is providing adequate protection.
    • Be aware that eventual replacement of your appliance will be necessary depending on the severity of grinding as well as regular wear and tear. You can expect your appliance to last anywhere from 3-5 years.

I read several articles stating that you weren't suppose to use toothpaste (too abrasive), soap's better and that alcohol is bad since it damages the guard.

I’m so glad I saw this! Just got my NTI guard yesterday (night two and I strangely love the thing lol). I asked the dentist how to clean it, and the hygienist was the one to respond “antibacterial soap and water.” I had first asked if Efferdent was okay because that’s what I used waaaay back in the day on my expander and retainer lol oddly, they said liquid hand soap and water was good enough? Crazy. I understand the alcohol deteriorating it part. But it’s crazy to think that toothpaste is abrasive too! So what are we supposed to brush with 😱😱😱

Just. Sleep with it on relax your mouth and when you feel relaxed and you lose your mouth you will sleep in a comfortable manner.

    • @fearless6947
      @fearless6947 ปีที่แล้ว

yeah mine lasted for a month or so. Sometimes 2 months but it's very random. Sometimes less. It's the way you mould the cheap mouth guard. Sometimes I bite too hard, if you bite too hard, it won't last long lol. It's always different when you try and shape it hahaha I think they both have there pro's and con's. The custom made one is expensive. The cheap one is cheap and you can buy in bulk. Custom made just feels better and last longer. I have a custom made one a week ago and I'm loving it. Time will tell which one is better.
