So uhhh... people are watching my video and I don't know how to feel. Thanks for coming. I mean you make the videos so people will watch it, but I'm not used to that actually happening. Hi new friends!
hi, thx for the video, this game means a lot to me too, been playing all of Yoko's games, and a little info on the day cycle of the game, is that the earth stopped rotating due to some event and that's why it always day time in that side of the world, If not mistaken this is something from before the 1r Nier, so is basically still happening during automata time
@Raymer Rodríguez thank you for the response. I am sure I encountered that at some point but don't recall it specifically. I played these nier games numerous times now but I'm certainly still not an expert and I've learned some backstory from several of my commenters.
@Bryan Alexander I still think I did a good job with that video but it rendered wrong and I didn't realize til too late. It has some audio issues. In regard to playing replicant. Do it. If this game made you feel things, replicant is libel to get you as well. I hope you enjoy it like I did.
Congrats on getting picked by the algorithm bro. I fell asleep listening to another Automata video (more about the game as a whole than a story retrospective) and woke up to this one autoplaying.
This made me feel like I was finally talking with someone about this masterpiece of a game. A slow and boring day at work turned into a walk down memory lane with all the different moments in this game. There are people who can actually enjoy this long format just to chill, so thanks! I wish there was something like this about all the scattered lore of this game (the novellas, the audio discs, the concerts, the interviews, the short stories, the cameos in other games that add to the lore, etc). Anyway, Take care :)
Excellent. That was the inspiration for this work. In regards the assorted other media, I'm sure some one has made it but I haven't looked for it. Partly because I am the type that enjoys some of the holes in my knowledge. Sometimes your imagination is better than reality. Perhaps I'll be inspired to seek out the stage play and the novellas and all that at some point but the holes in the history is interesting enough for me at this moment. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I think rather than a plot flaw when 2B says emotions are prohibited, it is more a reminder for her to keep her distance. In the short story long, you read about some of 2B’s pervious encounters of taking out 9S. Even in the beginning, she tells him to drop the formalities. She knows him, almost a little too intimately, but she kills him over and over and over.
Yeah it's not something that bothers me with any real sincerity but I still maintain that angle should have been expanded on to merit it's inclusion. It seems pretty obvious that the point is that no one follows the rule anyhow and that is what is most interesting anyways. I don't really care but foe how many times they reiterated that they never show any consequences for any one showing any emotion

this is perfect example of one of the millions of great YT movies that almost nobody will never see. YT algo recommended your movie after week long searching and watching NieR related content - and most of it was way below the level of this movie.
That is a very nice thing to say and I thoroughly appreciate it. Sometimes as a small creator you have to make something because you want to make it without worrying about whether or not people will watch it. Comments like yours make it worth it for me.
what i think is most sad.. how under rated this game is at times. i always hear "Under Tale has the best story and tragic characters.." but those same people have probably never considered this game. this game plays with your emotion in a way other games have never tried, and having a more focused theme only deepens those emotions.
In the timestamp of 2:06:27. The word that is most likely blep out is "Free" because in nier reincarnation (mobile game that square enix made) there is a event that is focus on 9S and it high lighted that he want to free 2B, Also he hack 2B and saw all the endings and his own deaths multiple time.
Interesting. Yoko taro left that intentionally vague to spur people's imaginations. That bleep left a far greater impression on the masses than any 4 letter word by itself could have. Free makes sense. Thanks for the info
Some people have suggested other alternatives, too, like "kill" - the fact that it is vague is interesting... but would have been better if the word was crackled out rather than bleeped out because there are only two or three words that ever get bleeped out, and from memory only one of them is a verb.
There are a LOT of words that fit here to be fair. Kill, Free, Save, Hurt, Love, Kiss, etc. and they all fit, their relationship is extremely complex and all of these words convey it
I couldn't finish playing NieR because of a medical issue, and I'm so grateful for your video. I watched a few others, but yours truly made me feel like I didn't miss anything. Amazing work, thank you so much!
I fell asleep watching youtube and woke up to this video, I watched it out of curiosity and got hooked. Did not expect the emotional rollercoaster of a video that this was for me, amazing video
The hard work was done by yoko taro and crew coming up with this game but I'll take it as a compliment that I was able to properly express the emotions of this story for you
Never finished automata because things got in the way before ending C and never got back into it. This video let me experience a wonderful story that I would have otherwise missed due to a lack in time and motivation, as I could easily watch this whilst working. Excellent stuff, made my day both sad and good
Thank you for making this video! I played Automata last year and just finished Replicant few months ago which had led me to the thought of maybe replaying Automata again. This was the last push I needed to finally redownload haha
I seldom replay games. I did so with this one and having the knowledge of the story definitely changes your perception of it. You notice tell tale signs of what is to come far sooner and other subtleties that were lost on you in the first pass.
Now that I finally watched the full thing all I can say is Thank you. Your passion was trully seen while you told the story. I dont really play games and I decided to watch this to know what can I expect from the anime but now I think I will maybe buy a console to play this masterpiece. Thank you again and soon Im hopping into your other videos
Thank you. When I made the video I had two hopes. I wanted to share my appreciation of the game with those who already loved it and inspire others to check it out themselves. This is the ultimate compliment and I am happy that you took the time to watch the video and that you had such kind words.
the flower field, i didnt know its original meaning when i kept visiting a recreation of it in vrchat, at least till now, and looking back at what i used it for, it brought a tear to my eye, that i honored its intentions and spent time in it either thinking or with friends, talking things out.
I finished this game a few years ago, for some reason, i forgot the plot, but i knew in my heart that this was the best game i ever played and i dont want to forget! But i dont have the time anymore to play again so thank you for this incredible video, it brought back the feels. I feel good!
Fell asleep to this multiple times its not boring or anything i just love sleeping to really long videos of a soothing voice explaining something and this is my favorite so far with how its 3 hours long
I want you to know that I see all the effort you put into it, and remind you that most people live their entire lives without finding something that truly fuels their passion. You added to the pool of human consciousness. Thank you!🙏🏻💜
I appreciate your kind sentiments. I did my absolute best with this video and I am proud what I was able to accomplish with my limited capabilities. I've been very happy to see that people have found it and this video has really resonated with some. You are right that this video required a lot of effort, but it also has given me a lot of satisfaction with it's results thanks to kind comments like yours. Have a great day.
I can't thank you enough for this video and the experience it gave me. This game and story is now an emotional matter for me too. I feel incredibly lucky that this video was my first contact with it.
I've been waiting for 6 years to find an in depth story video on this fascinating game, thank you for all the hard work you did making one. You answered so many questions I had about this game.
Just wanted to drop a comment saying thank you so much for doing this! I really wanted to re-exoerience this game in-depth with the story being top priorety, but didn't want to slog through a long, unedited playthrough, and my laptop is garbage with my PS4's on death's door. So replaying it wasn't an option either. This was EXACTLY what I needed. I know from watching that you obviously know how meaningful this story is and still is today, and thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to sink back into the depth, immersion, and emotion this game excells in. I also watched your Replicant video and had a blast with that!!! (And yeah, I'm here because the church mess dragged me right back into this universe half-heartedly kicking and screaming lol.) Again, thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the kind regards. That is exactly the intent of videos like these. Sometimes you just gotta sit back and feel the second hand appreciation that some one else has for a piece of media to properly grasp your own appreciation. I beat nier automata and then immediately bought nier gestalt. Then once that was completed I sat back and absorbed as much content on the games as possible to be able to live vicariously through other people's new found enjoyment. As a small hobbyist creator, I appreciate all of the viewers who take the time for my videos and I appreciate kind words even more.
Thank you for such an excellent video. I like how your humor spared me from bawling my eyes out yet again while re-experiencing the amazing but tragic story of Automata.
Just finished automata within the past few hours and the first 5 main endings after months of occasionally picking it up for a few days over time etc etc, thank you so much for this vid, this game was so fucking amazing and one of the most creative I've ever seen, exactly what I needed after bawling over ending E :')
I just finished playing NieR Automata and your video was suggested by TH-cam. I have to say your passion for this game really seeps through the videos and aspires me to play it again to get all the endings. Thank you for the beautiful explanation of the story.
I love love love love love this game and how deep it goes into existentialist philosophy. Great video, dude! Really happy that it ended up in my feed. I hope you keep growing; this is one of the best long-form videos on Nier I've seen.
So interesting to note that a predecessor or antecessor of 9S, name no.9, Created Project Yorha and started this life and death cycle between 9S and 2B indirectly. It was so cool to see 9S though grow in strength through out the game. At end game, he was stronger than 2B seeing as she could not defeat 4 Yorha flight units, at the same time using a flight unit herself, while he was able to take them down 6 flight units while on his feet alone. At the same time defeating bosses like Operator 21B and others! his resolve and murderous tenacity after going off the deep end was what overclocked his body way past its limits. I would of love to see 9S defeat/kill 2B multiple times and joined up with A2 in one of the routes or create a separate new route. In the Nier Concert Drama which you can find on TH-cam, they have a video where they extended Ending E or modified it up a bit. Showing how 9S and 2B were revived at the end.
„I often wonder about the god that blessed us with this cryptic puzzle... and wonder if we'll ever get the chance to kill him ” Yes she did, and did it over and over again.
@@denismitrovic1860 technically not! our 9S is not the same as no.9 while no.9 was the one who started it all and knew everything, our boy 9S didn't know a thing.
@@Danny-mg1hu I think of the ones that set the cryptic puzzle in motion as the same ones who created yorha. The same ones who created the back door to destroy Yorha. She doesn't get to kill them during this game but finding the genesis of all these actions continues to lead you back a step further to an even earlier action all the way back to the humans and project gestalt. This game isn't about laying blame at the feet of any specific party. everyone is cuplable for the state of the world at this time. The machines and the network, the androids, the original alien invaders, and even the humans. All are equal actors.
I want to thank you for talking about those of us with physical differences. I'm hearing impared, and having the script in cc was very helpful. Thank you for being cool!
Watched till the very end. I've played nier automata once before but never to completion. This video inspires me to wanna go back to it and play it myself and then come back to this video. Thank you for such a big comprehensive video explaining it. I loved the passion you clearly show for this game and the slight jokes you would make in the video made it funny as well as entertaining😊
So I’ve gotten myself the PS5. While God of War came with the system, I decided to buy and play through Nier: Automata first. I’ve always been impressed by the character designs when seeing either commercials or crossovers. While I would consider myself a true fan since I have yet to play any of the other games in the series, I was not disappointed with the game. The documentary was very enjoyable. Honestly, I’ve had to learn most of what I know from listening to other people talk about the game since I’m not the player that’s going to put in the time to piece everything together. After first seeing A2 in the forest my thought was “please tell me I get to play as this character?” I would consider myself someone who enjoys the surface level of games. I got ending C, but I will probably never do the later routes because the novelty of the latter content is fulfilled in videos on TH-cam. I agree, there is something about this game that hits differently. Appreciate the work.
Just got ending E for my first “full” play through and I’m so glad I found this video to help me debrief the emotional and amazing experience I had. Cheers
Just wanted to leave a quick comment commending you for putting in enormous amount of effort it took to create and edit this massive video. A while ago I played route A, and when I started route B with 9S, I was a bit annoyed with how hacking worked, and I didn't want to put in the time to finish the rest. Now years later after hearing about how I very literally only touched the surface I thought to look up the full story. This was a joy to watch and experience. It was the level of detail that I look for, and it may get me to pick the game up again, if only to experience this masterpiece of storytelling.
This was my ultimate ambition with this video. My ultimate hope was to reach some of the people that didn't put in the time to finish or even start the game. I obviously loved it and my hope was that some of that love could rub off on others so they could see what I could see with this game. The hacking is very much a potential sore spot for some. If you do ever come back to give it a second go, I'd suggest using some chip upgrades to improve his hacking skills because it makes him an absolute god of a murder machine. Maybe if you're destroying whole mobs in just a couple of hacks you might find some enjoyment while using his quick attacks to smash through the weaker enemies. The story picks up again and splits off from route A fairly early and those who reach that point are far more likely to be motivated to finish. Even if you don't go back, I'm just happy to hear I was able to inspire some appreciation of the story told. Thank you.
I will say, the quests in this game are mostly amazing, like very few offer little while the others are layered with story, world building, character interactions, references to philosophy, emotional driven elements, almost all of them have these factors, the most heart wrenching being Emils Quest, that one broke me
Bro the second emil fight got me hard. The remix of his music soaring behind you while his clones lament their existence hit me in the feels. There were several others I didn't specifically mention like the machine who is caring for animals in the forest that enjoyed as well but I had to draw some kind of line in the sand as to what to mention or my nearly 4 hour video could be even longer. This project already took me forever haha
@@shepergames3734 that last Emil fight shattered me too rarely do i ever cry out loud over a game, although there is something I noticed. If you have time, look at the weapon story for Emil's Head, there is something there that shocked me, I'll give a hint: look at what year this game took place Also the "android aren't allowed to feel emotions" plot line wasn't forgotten, it's still there and even extends to Novellas and stage plays
@@FintanMajora it feels like it was a tangent in this story. I have only played the games so I can only speak from that experience. It's referenced that they aren't supposed to show emotion but inevitably literally every character in the game shows tons of emotion and there is no sign of consequence for it, nor is there ever an explanation why that rule would be in place. In my eyes it was a minor gripe so I voiced my opinion on it but it had such little impact on my enjoyment that I struggled on whether or not to even mention it.
@@FintanMajora oh snap I just read the weapon story. I really hadn't done so since when I first played the game the weapons had no stories. So his head basically hints at the sequel... alright I'm game. I would also be ok with a game set in a past timeline with all new characters or maybe one playing through as emil or his sister during the middle of project gestalt. I just know I'm a yoko taro shill now so I'll basically buy whatever he puts out.
@@shepergames3734 the rule isn't a strict one, but 2B enforces it hard with 9S because as you saw, her killing 9S severely hurts her, her line "why does it always have to end like this" is emblematic of the fact she has done this before, the Novella "Memory Cage" has stated she has killed 9S 48+ times and the end of the game reveal she is a Model E Android task to kill 9S from discovering their dark secret, the issue is she fell in love with 9S and everytime she kills him and he forgets, it wounds her, so she always has to force that rule and act cold to limit any chances of strengthens that love, it's a desperate attempt to cope with it, her love shines the hardest in the Epilouge which has the most depressing ending I've seen and it really made me cry hard like Holy shit. Seriously tho that Emil Head Weapon story really changes things once you notice, and I only noticed a few weeks ago
i watched the entire video.... i played the 1st ending and started 9s and stopped mid game play.... always wondered if there was anything worth continuing i came to see this video.... and my god pascal's story crush me i played it.... and i thought it was sad but didnt cry, hearing ur analysis did crush me.... and made me realize how little attention i placed on certain quests.... 10/10 recap man i am a new sub!
The youtube algorithm really showed up today. Your longer form content is great and your delivery is really good, its very easy to listen to. Lookin forward to more!
I just wanna say that I think you are doing an amazing job, this is the third video of yours I have watched now and I can already tell you will become one of my comfort creators. You are really nice to listen to and make it easy to follow along even for my adhd ass who used this as a podcast while doing other things. I am a huge sucker for listening to people talk about their passions and you really brought across how much it moved you, I really did enjoy it and wanna give you high praise for doing such an extensive deepdive. Longform content my beloved, and shepergames my new comfort content :] You should be proud of the videos you make, I sure am
Thank you so much. I'm slowly finding some kind of a groove. When you take on a task you are proficient in you do so with confidence. Creating videos is a task that is out of my comfort zone. I leave up my older (and not as high quality) videos as a reminder to myself that I'm improving. When I get kind remarks like these it gives me further confidence.
Ok you got my attention. I always reach about around the 1 hour mark of your video in the story and stop. This time I will push trough and then watch your vid. Great job, keep it up!
Great video. watched a lot of lore videos to be able to catch up with my friend who loves the game and lore. This is by far one of the most detailed and well explained videos thus far. Thanks
Really good video man, really love how even if you stumble in a monologue you push through in a video like this about philosophy it makes it more human :)
So, I've listened to this video twice and I suggest this video to any of my friends that don't have the time to play the game. I suggest to them to listen to it like a podcast. Thank you for your work!
Well done man, thank you for dodging all those glowing balls and explaining all the cut scenes for us. This story is SO Epic and impactful. I got a lot more out of your video than the 3 hours I spent just replaying the first segment of this game, never getting to save once lol. Then again I didn't know you could CHOOSE to take recovery items... I might try again... Thank You!
I was too bold at the start. I'd suggest playing the first section of the game on easy, then switching to normal once you can save. No shame in the game player. You can't experience the game without actually playing all the game. As you might be able to tell, I have a passion for this franchise and it is worthwhile to experience it yourself in whichever way you are capable. No one is grading you on the way you play games. Well, if they are then that sounds like a personal problem.
i always come back here from time to time and just relive this game.... i will forever be sad that i missed devola's and popola's bodies before entering the tower. I didn't see them and only later read that they were there but that's how it goes. nier automata is a game that has an everlasting place in my heart and it's such an amazing and throughout compelling story and experience. great video
Thank you for reliving the magic with me. I've watched a lot of nier content on this game. There is some kind of magic that lures a lot of us back. Not only do we appreciate the experience, but we want to continue to live it.
I didn’t know about the records you can find from anemone! I stopped your video, went to my game and played through the archives. Freaking heartbreaking. Love your entire video! Thanks for putting it together! ❤
Oh man what a save. I'm so glad I could help you get that piece of the universe clarified. It's better to live it for yourself than to have me inarticulately describe it to you. Thank you for taking the time to watch my content. I appreciate you.
I've just binge watched your Replicant video, and then this after having been fascinated by the world of the game for the longest time, but never really being able to get very far in either game as the gameplay wasn't my thing. Regardless, both of these games have touched me deeply, without even having played them I lost count of the amount of times I cried, both during this video, and your Replicant video - I don't think I'll be able to see any NieR related content anymore without tearing up at least a tiny bit Out of all the videos I could find that attempted to recap the whole story from start to finish, yours were by far the best, audio issues in the Replicant video be damned. Thank you for making these games that much more accessible, without your two videos I would never have experienced these two absolute titans of storytelling
If I'm able to stir up any interest in these two games then I have succeeded in my mission. Thank you for giving my content the time of day. I'm a fly on the wind shield in the scheme of TH-cam content and I appreciate your time and praise.
I like the way you recap the story, but also go through the gameplay elements along the way. Nice format. It will be handy when a sequel to a game is released and one wants to freshen up on the previous game(s). Keep at it.
First off, what a phenomenal video. As you hoped towards the end of the video, your passion absolutely shined through here. It was an amazing way to experience the game again. I played it around launch, but I remember everything so vividly. I can't express just how emotional I can get just by hearing someone talk about parts of this game. The only thing I wish you'd touched on is 9S finding 2B's flight unit during Route C. It's such an emotional gut-punch. Anyways, thanks again for the amazing recap and interpretation of the game, story, music, and characters.
I very much appreciate your kind words. When you make a video this long, one would hope it would be a completely thorough look that encompasses all events and one's thoughts on them. That is what I endeavored to do. After I hit upload, I was already thinking of things I didn't touch on. Every video leaves me feeling like there are things I could have done better. Usually my longer videos take so much time that I do a better job, but I still feel kind of incomplete nonetheless. This particular video was certainly a passion project for me and I'm very glad it has been received as such.
@SheperGames Oh, I can't even begin to comprehend what kind of a monster this was to tackle. And I can completely sympathize with "Oh man, I should have added this" or "Man, maybe I should have paced that differently." You did a great job, and I'm truly happy I stumbled across this video today.
this is a fantastic video, thank you for making it! i haven't seen a lot of people talk about the many beautiful side quests in the game, & i myself have enjoyed most of them in my playthroughs. I just want to say that for the "Wise Machine" quest, i think it's implied by the game that it's just one machine changing locations until its demise, although i like your interpretation that there's more than one machine considering their own mortality
Well that makes me feel sheepish. It makes sense that it is a single wise machine but his locations on the map are all present at the same time so I just assumed it was different machines. Plus, he's a machine so it isn't like they are known for their distinguishing features. Thanks for the insight and your time.
@@shepergames3734 yeah that's a totally fair way to see it! the way quest markers show up all at once in the map is honestly a bit distracting sometimes, but don't feel bad about perceiving things the way you did, that's the beauty of different people playing the same game :D it was a pleasure to discuss this with you!
As someone who doesn't play video games, this game has drawn me in. I watched your whole video and definitely appreciate all of the pointers and insight. The tip for the long jump is super helpful and appreciated! I love this game and the depth that went into it. I understand getting sucked into hours of just fishing, I love listening to the music and relaxing while just catching stuff.
Several people have thanked me for that small tip and I felt sheepish including it since I'm loath to try to act like I have any measure of expertise. I'm glad I did now. I think this game is great because it appeals to the crowd that wants to express their mastery of the combat and it appeals to us that are less masterful that are taken with the experience as a whole. Some people might be charmed by the themes or the whimsy of the world. Some people like the style of the grungy anime aesthetic. Or some people are crazy enough to make a 3 and a half hour love letter. Thanks for taking your time for my video and even more for commenting.
I always thought about buying this game but didn't know if I should, but after watching your video it just makes me want to experience for my self. So much love and emotion put into this game
I love that expression. Thanks for taking your time to watch my content. I'm glad that I was able to impart my love for the game into the video in a way that has been well received by the community.
I played through ending A and decided that it wasn't worth the time to play through the whole thing. I decided that I was just going to watch someone explain the story since I knew it was something that many people thought was special. But as I got to the end of route A in your video, you convinced me somehow to play through the whole thing. It seemed to be something that I had to experience for myself and it really was. I spent 10 hours playing route A and another ~20 hours to get to ending E. After finishing route B, I watched your video up until route B and it was like playing it along side someone which was nice. You encouraged me to play through some frustrating parts (at the time I didn't realize the power of heal spamming, I thought I should save the money for something else. Also dodging on pc felt dumb because you have to double tap your movement key which made it a little slower. Also there was a bug I found where if you spam it, your dodge will just make you sort of stutter walk). Nier Automata was a truly special experience which transcends normal games. I will treasure as such. So thanks for this video!
Thank you for this. When I made it, I had my friend Matt in mind. Like you he got frustrated and stopped playing early into route b. He was under the impression that it would be a complete duplicate of route a and there is no way of curing him of that idea without spoiling it. I really just wanted to encourage others to give this a go. Your story is the best case scenario I could hope for. I appreciate your viewership but I appreciate that you persevered through the game even more.
I started the game drunk, many years ago. Now I'm sober and would like to resume but needed a recap of what I had gone through, since I typically don't like repeating stuff. Thankful for your video for the chapter-per-chapter summary!
It's gonna sound weird but this video felt actually too short heh I just didn't want it to end. It was a lovely listen while I was working but since Route C started I found myself taking the time to pay full attention and take it all in again, I felt mesmerized. Experiencing the story will never feel the same as the first time yet my love and nostalgia for it keeps me coming back. I don't know if it's just me but it felt like your narration fit the personality of the story perfectly - at the surface strict and rational but with little surprises here and there, the funny remarks and the personal feelings seeping through. I think you really did the story justice, touching on all the vital parts that also had the biggest influence on me. I'm so glad you set aside time for the side quests too, I have yet to see another RPG that puts as much care into the simplest fetch quest to turn it into something meaningful and fun. Thank you for the effort you put into this, you can see it comes from a place of genuine passion!
I'm just gonna say it. It is just you. No one else felt this was short hahaha. Genuine thanks for the kind words. Obviously I'm a novice at this, and I'm being carried by bullish passion and a lack of understanding of just how bad I am. I feed off of all the positivity I've received and it genuinely feels fantastic to have people find my videos and watch them. Especially my really long recaps that required so much work to make.
Thanks for this video! I'm always on the lookout for new nier content and a few hour video done as well as this was awesome! I think I'll use your video as a recommendation for people who are into nier automata but won't actually sit and play it themselves. I'm always lending out my copy but so many people get caught up in the repetition of route B and lose interest. Your video is thorough and explains everything really well!
Most my friends loved automata but one of them couldn't get over route b. I get it. That's why I made the video. It is more accessible than asking for a 30 hour playthrough of some one. And hopefully, I could get some one intrigued enough to give it another go. Thanks for your time.
The women in the red cape had the same creepy laugh as the infected androids.. The captain controled the infection no problem. I have so many questions
I don't even know where to begin my response lol. The problem with a long and complex story like Nier Automata is that it requires long and complex answers to any questions you have about it. In regards to the commander, she was infected. She didn't immediately go haywire, but her end was assured. The logic virus is shown to affect the machines as well as the androids but not every character shows the effects of the virus at the same rate. That is why the machines in pascal's village start eating one another. The effects are similar because the goal of such a virus is to perpetuate the war between the androids and the machines. The androids have perpetuated the lie of the humans to give their kind a reason to keep fighting and the machines have purposely programmed themselves to fail. They were programmed to fight the enemy. If they win, there will be no more enemy to fight. I hope that somewhat fills in some blanks.
I'll watch this at a later time but damn I'm really happy people are still talking about this game, I just finished watching the Replicant video and I enjoyed it despite the audio issues. Yoko Taro has made god tier games and has inspired me wholeheartedly, even enough for me to direct an animation. I'm looking foward to this video.
Yoko taro inspired me to make this TH-cam channel so I know the feeling. I appreciate the positivity and take your time with the video because I'm well aware of what a monster it is.
The music never stops never stopping. If I hear certain melodies from this game it can pull me out of the present and bring me directly to a moment of the game. Powerful stuff.
Buddy this is hands down one of the best analysis I have ever experienced. Thanks. Had to sub. I loved this game when I played it but you made me love it more.
A wonderful Video with a lot of heart and thought behind it clearly, Regarding the 3rd Option for Pascal's end, given the Machine's tendency to repeat their mistakes over and over again always made me think that wiping his memories was far more cruel, same with killing him... killing someone to "help" them over Heartbreak is an extreme way to "Help" anyone with their Grief... Leaving him, while cruel yes gives him the freedom to choose. To choose if he wishes to end his life or to overcome his grief and not repeat past mistakes but as usual everyone is free to interpret it as they do.
I've had this dispute with several other commenters. While I would agree with you, the hardest part of suicide or death is often those that are left behind. In Pascal's case, his loved ones are already gone. He has no one else to grieve him except you as the player. I can't imagine a scenario where my entire family was taken from me and I felt at fault for it. I was being hyperbolic in my presentation in the video. If I were truly in A2's place, I cannot say for sure how I would have reacted. You are right about the machines repeating their mistakes over and over again, but also Pascal is no longer apart of the network. Also I agree with the pod when he says there is a chance for things to be different in ending E. Thanks for participating in the conversation though and engaging with my video. I think I truly succeeded with this one as it has spurred on much conversation so that means that people were engaged by it.
I'm guilty of this behavior as well. Thanks for taking the time for my work though. A person's time is precious. Using some of your's on something I created means something to me.
amazing. you earned my sub and im glad i listened to this, 3 times now. this story honestly has been giving me nightmares the past few days. The script writing/editing doesdnt matter, your love for the game made me enthralled to listen. Heres my comment, thanks for your time, effort and love for the game, this will stick with me.
hello! i just finished watching through all this video and i can proudly say i am a nier fan now, your delivery of everything was way too amazing and understandable! i think this is one of the games you play and never forget your whole life about them, i wish to play nier automata one day.
My favorite part is that you called it compact haha. I struggled to be concise on this one. Well in general I struggle with being concise. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@UCrhu3QNL45iVcMut9KhxmeQ Thanks again. I appreciate anyone willing to take the time to watch my content and I'm further grateful to hear they enjoyed it
@@shepergames3734 well I guess I'm dead to you, Pascal was my favorite character, but it is important for one to learn from their mistakes and out of everyone in the story I feel Pascal the most capable of that.
As this message was in text format, I lack the ability to sense sarcasm. I hope you were sincerely satisfied and not mocking me for my shortcomings. Either way, thank you for watching.
Fun fact about Pascal's outcome, you can also walk away. He'll chastise you, for turning your back on him, but if he wants to be truly human, you learn to live with the guilt and grow apart from it. That's the option I always take. I can't kill him, but I can't erase him either. Both feel hollow to me. Great video, and wonderful insights. Nier: Automata is the game that keeps on giving, because I can always find someone new playing it for the first time. Each person comes to it with their own individual perspective, and that's what really fascinates me most.
Just wait til I mention that option in the conclusion section. You're not gonna like my take. *spoiler alert* I think you're horrible for doing that to your friend hahaha. I was being overdramatic and I've had this conversation with several others. I don't think you're a monster, but I definitely think Pascal deserves better than to be left with nothing but his pain.
@@shepergames3734 Ha! It's okay, each to their own. That's the good thing about these types of games, there's no right way of working through it. Each option is valid. My personal headcannon is that A2 befriends him again. He recognizes that her memory is wiped clean, and so, despite the betrayal he feels, tries to work past it. Because sometimes you have to. But that's just me, I'm a sucker for bittersweet conclusions like you see in Nier: Automata.
@ShantyLady that is why this game and nier gestalt stuck with me so much. I was so used to stories spoon feeding me the happy ending wrapped in a bow. The nier games are a series of down notes with a heavy spoonful of thematic topping that makes you really consider the subject matter in a way I was not prepared for. Thanks for engaging with me even though we had differing approaches.
I just wanted to say, amazing job with the whole video. You have a suiting voice for this kind of thing, and you did a fantastic job explaining the story, having your own opinion while being funny and to the point throughout. Appreciate it and had a good time. This was in perfect timing for the NieR anime coming up very soonish. Take care ^^
Haha I was being hyperbolic and I've noticed that people have found that statement controversial. I still stand by my opinion of that scenario but I don't really think you're a monster.
I didn’t completely finish this game but when I did play it it was the best thing I’ve ever played. This is truly a game game! If every developer put this much care in their games things would be great but mostly today all we get is half baked cakes for games where it’s still undercooked inside. You did a dam good job of a recap of this game! Good job man!
@En3rgyLee it's wild. I was making these videos for myself to learn how to edit and use my brain to write scripts. Most everything was getting less than 100 views. Now all of a sudden this video found a place in the algorithm and lots of people are checking out my work. It's awesome but it's also intimidating. It's a lot easier to try something and not be great at it when no one is watching. As soon as I got lots of eyes on me it made me very self conscious. I'm extra thankful for the positivity when I get it to build myself up a little. Have a nice day.
This should be recommended to anyone looking for Nier content. I won't come across your video if I didn't search for it specifically while playing the Switch version.
I'm glad you found value in it. I think most people find these videos by search functionality. I'm a guy with 300 subs so TH-cam doesn't put my content in the forefront but it's nice when people find it and appreciate the effort i put in.
Beautiful video, I found this before the wave of new viewers but just finished it. Your passion certainly shows through. P.S. I'm one of the 5 viewers in Japan. Thank you for doing what you could to keep the video viewable!
I just recently finished Nier Automata in its entirety for the first time a few days ago, so this video was a nice clarification on a few of the things I didn't absorb from my playthrough.
So uhhh... people are watching my video and I don't know how to feel.
Yo I just recently started replaying getting ready to play replicant and I'm looking forward to watching the replicant video when I finish.
In case the above link didn’t work, look for EruptionFang and their vid The Complete Unabridged Timeline of Nier
Will you be watching the anime in 2 weeks ?

It's better to watch this video than wasting any time playing this game
this is perfect example of one of the millions of great YT movies that almost nobody will never see.
This is accurate. TH-cam sits on a goldmine of masterful content while recommending a lot of popular brainrot.
After watching this bit by bit over the course of a week... wow. This is easily the best long-form TH-cam video I've ever seen. Amazing...
That is a truly kind thing to say and I very much appreciate it
what i think is most sad.. how under rated this game is at times. i always hear "Under Tale has the best story and tragic characters.." but those same people have probably never considered this game. this game plays with your emotion in a way other games have never tried, and having a more focused theme only deepens those emotions.
The hard work was done by yoko taro and crew coming up with this game but I'll take it as a compliment that I was able to properly express the emotions of this story for you
Bruh, same situation and I kept watching and I’m like this good!!!!
Never finished automata because things got in the way before ending C and never got back into it. This video let me experience a wonderful story that I would have otherwise missed due to a lack in time and motivation, as I could easily watch this whilst working.
Excellent stuff, made my day both sad and good
I'm glad you could experience it one way or another. Thank you for your time.
Now play megaman legends. His history is after this.
I'm sure lots of people got to that bed of lunar tears and didn't understand their significance. All that matters is they are significant to emil.
Wait. You were able to visit places from this game in a VR chat? Please, tell me more.
@@Erosgates ngl, I somehow let that part of the message slip by me. I'm intrigued as well.
Beautiful long-form content. You're bound to go places with work like this. 💙
I finished this game a few years ago, for some reason, i forgot the plot, but i knew in my heart that this was the best game i ever played and i dont want to forget! But i dont have the time anymore to play again so thank you for this incredible video, it brought back the feels. I feel good!
Fell asleep to this multiple times its not boring or anything i just love sleeping to really long videos of a soothing voice explaining something and this is my favorite so far with how its 3 hours long
Haha np I get it. I do the same thing sometimes with grimbeard videos.
Watching this made me realize once more why NieR Automata is so special. I'm glad that it has left such a profound impact on so many people.

Awww shucks friend. Thanks for watching.
I've been waiting for 6 years to find an in depth story video on this fascinating game, thank you for all the hard work you did making one. You answered so many questions I had about this game.
This was an amazing video. I wasn’t expecting to watch the whole thing but I was drawn in instantly. Thank you!!!
Thanks for coming and thanks even more for staying.

Amazing compilation. This game hit me just like it did you ! Loved reliving it again, thank you
*finger guns* no thank you.

Nawh. Thank you.
(And yeah, I'm here because the church mess dragged me right back into this universe half-heartedly kicking and screaming lol.)
Again, thank you!!!
If I didn't make any jokes, I would have bawled MY eyes out while making it. Actually I still kind of did with the Pascal part. You know the one.
Just finished automata within the past few hours and the first 5 main endings after months of occasionally picking it up for a few days over time etc etc, thank you so much for this vid, this game was so fucking amazing and one of the most creative I've ever seen, exactly what I needed after bawling over ending E :')
Thank you very much. I appreciate the positivity. Also clearly I loved the game as well.
I'm glad that youtube led me to this channel I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Every video has been a stepping stone to the next. I'm slowly learning over time and I hope you can join me
watched this all in one sitting, this was more of an emotional rollercoaster than an actual movie, you're really good than what you do, keep it up
Thanks.
This is one of the best game related overview videos I’ve ever watched. Thank you for this unique perspective
I really appreciate it.
I just finished playing NieR Automata and your video was suggested by TH-cam. I have to say your passion for this game really seeps through the videos and aspires me to play it again to get all the endings. Thank you for the beautiful explanation of the story.
Thank you. That's the best I could hope for.
I love love love love love this game and how deep it goes into existentialist philosophy. Great video, dude! Really happy that it ended up in my feed. I hope you keep growing; this is one of the best long-form videos on Nier I've seen.
I loved this game too... clearly. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the kind words.
Thanks, I'll check that out for sure.

This came on automatically while I waking up, I eneded up watching the entire thing this morning, awesome vid. Nier series is too underrated
After first seeing A2 in the forest my thought was “please tell me I get to play as this character?”
I would consider myself someone who enjoys the surface level of games.
If you have time, look at the weapon story for Emil's Head, there is something there that shocked me, I'll give a hint: look at what year this game took place
Also the "android aren't allowed to feel emotions" plot line wasn't forgotten, it's still there and even extends to Novellas and stage plays

Wow the title for ending d, childhoods end, is such an obscure and specific reference that works really well for that part of the story
If it is true that "to error is human", then I am truly very human.
Finally i can sleep in peace after your summary thanks for the explanation and in only 3h !
Good luck in the future 😊
I like your way of telling the nier story far better than others i have seen.
Thank you friend. I appreciate it.
27:34 I love how it makes you make the first strike; you are the aggressor to what is essentially a new born... you teach it how this world works
So, I've listened to this video twice and I suggest this video to any of my friends that don't have the time to play the game. I suggest to them to listen to it like a podcast. Thank you for your work!
Thank you. That was my intent with the video.
This is great. I really like the flow and the commentary.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it.
Regardless, both of these games have touched me deeply, without even having played them
I lost count of the amount of times I cried, both during this video, and your Replicant video - I don't think I'll be able to see any NieR related content anymore without tearing up at least a tiny bit
Out of all the videos I could find that attempted to recap the whole story from start to finish, yours were by far the best, audio issues in the Replicant video be damned.
Keep at it.
Thanks. My prior videos were essentially practice to make this one. I really am pretty proud of how this one turned out overall.
And I can completely sympathize with "Oh man, I should have added this" or "Man, maybe I should have paced that differently."
You did a great job, and I'm truly happy I stumbled across this video today.
@Shirker thanks again friend.
Incredible!! Thank you for putting this together.
I love to hear it
never knew that game could have this much depth in philosophy and in-depth story. It was totally an new experience for me.
Watched the whole thing. You did this game justice. I think anybody who has played Automata and loved it knows how high that praise is 😂☺️
Thank you.
this is a fantastic video, thank you for making it! i haven't seen a lot of people talk about the many beautiful side quests in the game, & i myself have enjoyed most of them in my playthroughs.
Simply amazing. Thank you for making it !
Thanks for watching it
I always thought about buying this game but didn't know if I should, but after watching your video it just makes me want to experience for my self. So much love and emotion put into this game
You absolutely should experience it for yourself and I would be honored to be the motivator.
While not the most complete, this is the best telling of Automata I have ever seen and I've lost at least 30 hours on Nier videos. Well done bud.
Thanks. It was a lot of work but it has been super rewarding to have a bunch of people find and enjoy it.
@@shepergames3734 Well it shows, I'm about to check out your beyond good and evil. Again great job.
You created core memory in my brain. Thank you for that! Loved the game- now loving it even more after watching your video.
Happy to help
This video is just like the game when it came out nobody knew of the masterpiece and I hope this video some day blows up just like the game
*thumbs up* thanks!
Loved it, I’m looking forward to other stories than may come in the future😊
I'll watch this at a later time but damn I'm really happy people are still talking about this game, I just finished watching the Replicant video and I enjoyed it despite the audio issues. Yoko Taro has made god tier games and has inspired me wholeheartedly, even enough for me to direct an animation. I'm looking foward to this video.
Yoko taro inspired me to make this TH-cam channel so I know the feeling. I appreciate the positivity and take your time with the video because I'm well aware of what a monster it is.
@@shepergames3734 I love long videos, but it's 4AM for me so lol
Even watching while watching a video, that end credit music brings me to tears
The music never stops never stopping. If I hear certain melodies from this game it can pull me out of the present and bring me directly to a moment of the game. Powerful stuff.
Buddy this is hands down one of the best analysis I have ever experienced. Thanks. Had to sub. I loved this game when I played it but you made me love it more.
A wonderful Video with a lot of heart and thought behind it clearly,
Regarding the 3rd Option for Pascal's end, given the Machine's tendency to repeat their mistakes over and over again always made me think that wiping his memories was far more cruel, same with killing him... killing someone to "help" them over Heartbreak is an extreme way to "Help" anyone with their Grief...
"watch in pieces" - tsk, you underestimate me xD Thank you for all that hard work that went into this!
Thanks. I'll take your sub and you can take my heart. Have a nice day.
Sir SheperGames, Thank you for documenting this game epic storytelling. 🙏
Saw this vid and promised myself I'd watch after I played the game and here I am again
hello!
i just finished watching through all this video and i can proudly say i am a nier fan now, your delivery of everything was way too amazing and understandable!
i think this is one of the games you play and never forget your whole life about them, i wish to play nier automata one day.
welcome to the club friend
This is the perfect compact retelling of Nier
My favorite part is that you called it compact haha. I struggled to be concise on this one. Well in general I struggle with being concise. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
@UCrhu3QNL45iVcMut9KhxmeQ Thanks again. I appreciate anyone willing to take the time to watch my content and I'm further grateful to hear they enjoyed it
@@shepergames3734 also incase you didn't know there's a 3rd option for pascal if you pick neither and walk out the door.
@@MechReaperofKhaos I think I mentioned it. It didn't initially occur to me but if some one tells me they chose that option then they are DEAD TO ME!
@@shepergames3734 well I guess I'm dead to you, Pascal was my favorite character, but it is important for one to learn from their mistakes and out of everyone in the story I feel Pascal the most capable of that.
Best video to refresh myself on this story before i head into Route C
Bro, that video narration was flawless
Thank you for your time and your kind words.
"Those who didn't make a choice with pascal are monsters" I couldn't bring myself to do either! I WAS CRYING TOO HARD TO TAKE ANY OF THOSE OPTIONS
Haha I was being hyperbolic and I've noticed that people have found that statement controversial. I still stand by my opinion of that scenario but I don't really think you're a monster.
I love the video starting with "grab some tissues", and it's left ambiguous as to why you'll need them.
I mean I guess could go a couple of different ways depending on the person. It's best to leave it open ended. 2b and a2 are omega waifus after all.
Stumbled across this video after finishing the anime, and holy shit this is extremely well done! Great job, and appreciate your work!
Appreciate the kind words friend.
Thanks for the positive energy. I'll take it all day every day.
@@shepergames3734 you’re welcome man!
About halfway in this video And I have to say this is very well done video. Keep it up! 👏🏾
Also I love the moogle avatar btw.
Beautiful video, I found this before the wave of new viewers but just finished it. Your passion certainly shows through.
P.S. I'm one of the 5 viewers in Japan. Thank you for doing what you could to keep the video viewable!
I need that Japanese view so I can act cool to my friends. Thanks for taking the time out of your day for me.
Bro this is a piece of art in of its self thank you for making this ill be keeping an eye on this channel much love ❤️
Thanks friend. I'll gladly accept the compliment
I just recently finished Nier Automata in its entirety for the first time a few days ago, so this video was a nice clarification on a few of the things I didn't absorb from my playthrough.
I understand. Especially in the back end of the game, they begin to toss information at you at a rapid pace and it's not always easy to absorb it all.
