Everyone always talks about how much of an underrated guitarist Eddie Hazel was but you know who is also extremely underrated...Mike Hampton. The man is a true virtuoso
I was 15 yo then when I first heard it in a music store. And was counting my drachmas back then to buy the LP. I was so excited…. Not the same downloading an mp3/4 these days
Face melting and beautiful... I always get teary eyed when I think about Eddie... He was the most underrated guitar player ever...I don't see him on any lists but he should be up there in the top 10...RIP Eddie... I just read the biography for Eddie Hazel (the lead guitarist for "Maggot Brain") over at Wikipedia. It stated that Hazel left Funkadelic after recording the "Maggot Brain" album, but he continued to work with the group off and on on their studio albums. I came across a Funkadelic performance of "Maggot Brain", under the listing of "Eddie Hazel and Mike Hampton" from 1985 here on TH-cam. Here is the link to the concert performance of "Maggot Brain": th-cam.com/video/kc8H6USGR90/w-d-xo.html Eddie Hazel died in 1992 of internal bleeding and liver failure, at the age of 42.
George Clinton is a genius to surround himself with absolutely great musicians and out of this world stage props. No other group has surpassed the Landing Of The Mother Ship.
Eddie played on the first three funkadelic albums plus the parliament osmium album The live 71 gig and the toys a collection of outtakes from 70_71 is another must have if you love that early funkadelic sound Eddie plays on some of America eats it's young he pops up on pussy, everybody gonna make it this time, and miss Lucifer's love and sings backup on loose booty Hes mia on cosmic slop but plays on every song in standing in the verge of getting it on and plays on the goose, and whatever makes my baby feel good on the parliament up for the down stroke album
I've been a Funkadelic fan deep for a long time but this is as close to Eddie hazel solo and original. By the way Michael being 18 years old. A legend of guitar. Hit me one time.
Michael Hampton is a great guitarist but he can’t quite get the soul Lord Hazel could. Eddy’s hands were fucking gargantuan! They completely ate the neck. Omfg Hazel was so damn good.
don’t forget cameras of the day sucked at mixed light conditions, i’m sure it looked great in person... it’s appropriate lighting for the song, low key, let the instruments speak now.

One of the best guitar solo ever

THE ONLY THING MISSING HERE IS BERNIE'S KEYBOARD SOLO AT THE BEGINNING IT WAS ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SONG.
Damn his tone sounds like if Glen Buxton’s guitar and Marvin Gaye’s voice had a love child. Incredible.
