- Spain has gone through a turbulent on-off relationship with national finals, to say the least. After switching back and forth between televised shows and internal selections in the 1960s and early 70s, they did not host a single NF between 1977 and 1999. After the turn of the millenium, RTVE mostly relied on public selections again. With this video, I want to give you a quick recap of all the songs Spain almost voted onto the Eurovision stage!

Still cannot believe La Casa Azul "Revolucion Sexual" was never put through! First discovered the remix a few years ago and was totally blown away...and shocked to find it was a failed Eurovision entry. Since then I have become a firm fan here in the UK!!!
That year it was all set up to send "Baila el chiki chiki", because a spanish late night showrunner called "Buenafuente" worked his way on sending one of his sketches to the rival channel TVE to mock both the public tv and the contest.
As a spaniard, that was our most shameful moment in ESC ever.
@@GastonTheGreat wdym shameful 😭people STILL remember that song 16 years later. IIt's one of the most iconic and beloved Spanish entries of all time in our country. Don't be disingenuous just because you don't like the song.

There were fraud and intention to mock the contest and its followers. There's no possible defense.
La recordarás con cariño tú, porque ese año desde la propia TVE el mensaje que se mandaba era que no se podía tomar en serio el festival porque era un hervidero de frikis.
Yo le doy la vuelta a tu mensaje, si a día de hoy esa participación sólo sirve para que el Manolo de turno diga de manera peyorativa por las redes "mejor llevábamos al chikichiki" cada vez que no le gusta la candidatura escogida el correspondiente año, es que muy digna no fue.

@@dhilandass7986 We didn't. Manel and Mirela ended up tied on points, with Manel being the jury's favourite and Marela winning the televote by a landslide. However, it was the jury who broke the tie, deciding in favour of Manel.
It was a bit of a scandal back then. People in the live audience started booing loudly and there was a lot of backlash on social media. The program, "Objetivo Eurovisión", was discontinued after that edition.

I don't like her because she overacts sooo much...but she has a great voice and deserved the victory more than the winner, at least in 2008. Losing against THAT must be insulting. I've heard she was really mad after the show, and she had good f* reasons😅

I still think she had a better song than Ruth. The lyrics aren't the best but neither the ones from Dancing in the rain, it barely says nothing
2022/23 were missed opportunities :( but that shitty stage in Italy was probably better suited to Chanel... And while I prefer Nebullossa i kinda feel like St. Pedro could be giving the better result? Who knows
I think St. Pedro would be in top 10, but Nebulossa will be bottom 5. Maybe televote will save her, but I can't see her above 15th place. She'll probably be one of the last places by juries, while St. Pedro probably could be top 5 by juries but would be killed by televote.

Hay un salto grande de los 70 a los 2000... entre los 80 y los 90 también hubo grandes descartes. En 1990 siempre se ha dicho que iban a enviar a Locomía en vez de a Azúcar Moreno.

Spain may not have sent "Ay Mamá" in 2022, but we can say that they redeemed themselves in 2024.
Except one or two they are as bad as the winner and sometimes fairly discarded (speaking specially about the 2000's and 2010')
