- What a Boxing Day of Test cricket! Australia captain Pat Cummins won his first toss of the series, elected to bat and then it was the Sam Konstas show. Konstas made 60 from 65 on Test debut, ramping and lapping and charging India’s attack. Usman Khawaja made 57, Marnus Labuschagne 72 and Steve Smith 68 not out but Travis Head and Mitch Marsh missed out, preventing Australia from making a monster score in front of a record crowd of 87,242 at the MCG. Izzy Westbury and Mark Taylor break it all down and answer questions from the Secret Cricket Club.
UPDATE: Kohli has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and awarded one demerit point for his contact with Konstas, according to reports.

I think a key point here for the lack of fear in the youngsters stepping up to the Test team is that if they do get out cheaply and only end up playing one Test it's not the end of being able to earn a really good living from Cricket with all the other T20 series round the world and shield. 10 years ago if you failed to cement a place in the Test side for a good few years it was almost impossible to make a proper living from the sport.

Yes, the style of cricket has changed and these shots are used more and more, but boxing day test on debut? It gave me Glenn maxwell vibes. The class of ponting, slater, martyn have gone. In saying what I have, I'd actually like to see McSweeney and Konstas open for australia in the future. McSweeney's start to top level cricket reminds me of Phil Hughes

I should not expect very much but as a fan think sam can be handy on sl tour too if avg score on turning pitches are 190-220 and he adds 40-60 runs quickly that will ease the pressure.

@reality5357 he didn't show tho he played specifically for 4th test BGT at MCG. He deliverered. He has a good upbringing in all forms as a young kid. He'll adjust and hopefully remain in selectors radar following this game..for his longevity of test cricket🏏
I think that Australia are well and truly ahead in this game and the series after notching up over 300 runs in a day. I think that it is very unlikely that India comeback in this game. India hasn't scored over 200 in their first innings in around 75% of their matches in 2024. Today too they let the game drift away from them in the morning.The main issue is the failure of the top 5 to contribute collectively and regularly. India's top 3 doesn't really absorb pressure resulting in them losing half their side before 100. The Aussie bowlers are faster, taller and more accurate than their Indian counterparts.
Konstas' controlled aggression against Bumrah was a sight to behold and his intent has put Australia on the cusp of winning the series.

I have seen many innings of sehwag and hayden. Both played there first international match long after I started watching cricket. Never saw Both of them playing scoops against new ball. Hayden wasn't even that agreesive in test cricket. His Sr is just 60.
Playing agressive cricket is one thing but I'm talking about playing high risk manufactured shots. Those work in t20 cuz Sr is all that matters. Just work on your game awareness so I don't need to spell out everything to you.
Lastly this guy hasn't done anything in cricket yet to make me jealous of him. India has ton of players like him who can play super agressive cricket. One of them named jaiswal is already playing but the team management is asking him to be more patient instead of being more agressive. There is a reason for that which is obvious to anyone who understands cricket.

I'm simply saying most of the success this guy got today was by manufacturing shots. Those shots are risky against new ball for any batter so he won't find much success in every match if he relies on them. These things work on your day but fail on most days.
