    Here’s something Adam made me realize:
    One could argue that the two kids get their manipulative behavior from the mother-who literally hires an assistant to scam her own son to “teach him a lesson.”
    Hence, Georgie thinks to steal his mother’s credit card while Sammy-despite being against this-doesn’t snitch on his brother (as a way of playing both sides)
    When the mother catches the older brother, Sammy nonetheless is rewarded since he never fully supported Georgie. The point is:
    I heavily doubt Dhar Mann had this in mind when writing the episode, so it’s funny how this interpretation could be AT ALL applied to the video…

      To be fair, there are parents like that. That's probably the only realistic thing about this video. There are really toxic parents out there who will basically goad their children into making a mistake, so that they can correct them after the fact in the most traumatizing way possible. Basically because some people believe that people should be punished for their mistakes rather than rehabilitated.
      I specifically remember the case of the parents who let their daughter be lured out by a stranger only for them to surprise her and drag her into a van, putting her through extreme distress and trauma, to teach her that she shouldn't be going out with strangers.
      That's a perfectly good lesson, but damn it, if you want to teach someone something like that, stop them when you know they're about to commit to the mistake, rather than waiting for when it has the most impact. You are going to mess with their heads.

      But you see, it was ok then, because he was doing for the prize and to pursue a career in E-Sports. Dhar’s morality stops at “entrepreneurship”. In a way, he’s a great reflection of the mainstream ethos. All is forgiven under the word “entrepreneur”. If the kid here was stealing so he could stream for more hours and make extra bank on Twitch, the video would forgive him too.
      You “help the poor” by giving them a chance of working
      You “don’t humiliate service employees” because they are working and one day might end up rising so much in life that you might be working for them.
      It doesn’t take much for one to *sniff* out the pure ideology underneath his videos - Because it’s basically pre-60’s style old school “protestant work ethic”. The fact that it takes such a twisted form, even in his utterly fantastical scenarios, shows how wicked this worldview is when contrasted with reality, specially contemporary reality.

    Okay, I need to rant real quick about this. The USA uses both metric and imperial. In fact, the federal government recognizes the metric system as the preferred system of measurement for trade and commerce. Federal agencies are required to use it in most circumstances, and packaged food will always have both metric and imperial units printed on it, with the metric unit being the larger of the two. In science and most fields of engineering, metric is used routinely. The USA has adopted metric as much as it reasonably can. To go further, we would have to do things like update road signs to be in metric, which would be a massive undertaking that would take extremely long and be very expensive, and it would only make things more confusing for local Americans who are more accustomed to using miles instead of kilometers.

    • @LangstonDev
      @LangstonDev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Thank you! Adam doesn't seem to understand what a costly and massive undertaking converting measurements and currency would be in a country with the size, population and diversity of the US. Far easier in a place like Canada where your entire population is less than California and 90% of the population live in only like 10% of your landmass... If the costs dramatically outweigh the benefits (monetary, time and labor, plus the burearucratic red tape of getting all 50 states to adopt them PLUS convince tax payers to fund the changes), it's not going to happen...

    Like I’m willing to agree with Adam on the metric system vs imperial but I am not with him on the others. US dollars are some of the hardest in the world to fake and I’ve never had one fall apart on me no matter how wet or hot it has gotten, I find them in my pockets out of the dryer now and again, they just have trouble getting wrinkled. And the deal with Fahrenheit is that it covers a ton more degrees in between. At 100 C you would literally be dead, Fahrenheit is a more scientific method of temp vs Celsius which is very simplified, it’s not bad and I ain’t gonna shit on Celsius. But it’s more handy if you grow up understanding Fahrenheit and less daunting than learning it when older, letting you better describe/understand different levels of heat.

      People take saunas at 100°C.
      You can use decimals with Celcius, -273,15°C for example, so I'm not sure what you mean by °F having more degrees in between.
      Fahrenheit isn't more scientific either.
      Celsius is actually used in science and engineering (sometimes alongside Kelvin) and only converted to Fahrenheit if the data is sent to the US and most often not even then.

    • @ItsJustCartier
      @ItsJustCartier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@timoyr2954 The problem is tho that Fahrenheit gives you almost double-1.8x-the precision* of Celsius without having to delve INTO decimals, allowing you to better relate to the air temperature just by using degrees. Pretty sure that’s what he meant by there being more “degrees”. We're sensitive to small shifts in temperature, so Fahrenheit allows us to discern between two readings more easily than Celsius ever could with its decimal system. On top of that relating to temperature in decimal form is kinda silly method in general when we already have a easier way to measure temp without even having to use decimals so it makes sense that no one in America wants to use Celsius just to argue what decimal the temp actually is.

    • @rottytherottski522
      @rottytherottski522 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ItsJustCartier thanks for putting what I meant into a better wording, I was trying to cover a few things without making a totally massive wall of text and you got it 100%. I was an artillery guy and I find similarities between this and degrees (360 in a circle) and mils (6400 ((x1.0186)) in a circle) which allow a greater precision while working with whole numbers and the differences between C and F. I mean I wouldn’t complain if the US switched over to using Kelvin in that case but it would start to get even more crazy XD.

    • @rottytherottski522
      @rottytherottski522 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timoyr2954 though I’ll give you that outside of using decimals the 0 to 100 Celsius scale on its base makes more sense than 34 degrees being freezing at a glance, but when used outside of things specific to water like trying to judge air temp for how our bodies react the whole degrees tend to cover a much wider swath of temps. But if you don’t care about using decimals to pinpoint exactly where on the scale your temp is I understand you saying it is still a very scientific method of measurement and I won’t argue on the fact that it is widely used and dosent harm the scientific community. I was meaning more for accuracy related to daily usage and laymen, I’ve never heard a European friend tell me it was 30.306 degrees Celsius outside.

    I grew up in Europe and was a firm believer that the Metric was better, until I moved permanently to the US and out of frustration I looked up what are the benefits of Imperial.
    Take their base and divide it by 2, 3, 4, and 5.
    Here's what you get with each system:
    Metric (base 10): 5, 3.333333[...], 2.5, 2
    Imperial (base 12): 6, 4, 3, 2.4
    Noticed something? Yes, *for everyday common things* (like in the grocery store/etc) dividing things in Imperial gives you easy round numbers.
    This is probably why Canada and the UK still use them. Because for certain things, it's better, and for others, it's not. You know, like every other tool in existence.
    But that's about it though. I still think Metric handles better going up or down a unit, etc, etc, and I still use Celsius even though I live in the US. But base 12 I kinda get it.

    • @steveman9668
      @steveman9668 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, it's similar to why currencies used to divide by 240 instead of 100 (100 has 9 divisors, 240 has 20). Metric is nicer for math since we use a decimal number system, imperial is nicer for day to day stuff a lot of the time. And I say this as a european

      I don't find decimals traumatic, or imperial to be better in any way. Nah, the reason why Canadians sometimes use imperial is we're right next door to the U.S. We are one another's biggest trading partners, and many Americans live in Canada. So our goods are double-labelled, e.g. 355ml and 12 fluid ounces. Also, we're constantly exposed to U.S. culture and information, like recipes with 12 ounces of tomatoes, or building projects with 2" by 4" lumbar. If we weren't, we could just as easily have cans and recipes for 400 ml of tomatoes.

    • @pekalicious
      @pekalicious 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@floraposteschild4184 I would argue that you not minding dealing with decimals is anecdotal, and not fact. You literally cannot use the result of 10 divided by 3 because you get an infinite decimal. It's not about whether you can or cannot make the division in your head, it's whether the result of that division is useful. And in base 10, it's not, while in base 12, all divisions by 2, 3, 4, and 6 are useful (even 5). That's like 99% of the divisions you will do in your daily activities.
      Honestly, I think the reason it's not used more is because sub/sup units are just bonkers. Like the smaller units of liquids and how many ounces are in a gallon or pint, oh my god, I don't even want to go there. Same with weights.
      But base 12 is where it's at man. More things should use it :)

    I'd probably punish the little brother, too.
    Little brother: "But... But, I didn't do anything."
    Exactly. You're either telling me outright what's going on or you're playing games and not telling me at all.

    I still disagree with the Celsius thing. I don't get why people act like it's good because "Water freezes at 0, boils at 100", not only do I not need to measure water temperatures on a regular basis, but it's just as arbitrary as Fahrenheit when it comes to every other liquid. I think Fahrenheit works better for weather stuff because there are more values to work with that apply to the weather (Fahrenheit can go from 0 to 100 for weather whereas Celsius only goes to 37 on that same scale, idk if that makes perfect sense)
    The one thing Celsius has over Fahrenheit is the fucking spelling at least. I was literally looking at the word written out while typing and still got it wrong

      I agree, you can at least use Fahrenheit for survivable conditions in the real world with a much larger and more precise scale compared to Celsius never even getting close to reaching 100 degrees anywhere on the surface of the planet

    While it might seem easier to counterfeit, the US Dollar has a number of securities against such. A few simple measures, such as one side being black, serial codes, and seals, as well as more complicated systems, such as using cotton in the paper and water marks on higher value currency.

    Fahrenheit is a more convenient scale for measuring ambient temperature for human environments. 0-100 F is pretty damn cold to pretty damn hot. 0-100 C is fairly cold to instant death. No one gives a shit about boiling and freezing water, I wanna know if I should wear a jacket today.
