Had she brought them in on the plan, on her past, and what she knew about Duscur, they would likely have joined up with her, and the war would never have happened - with all 3 major nations of Fodlan united against the Church, they could have ended it quickly. There would have been much less death, and the students wouldn't be killing each other. She had opportunities to minimize damage, and She. Did. Not. Take. Them! And yes, I KNOW that she didn't believe that Rhea would consider peace and she had good cause to do so, but if she'd talked to Rhea about her past, I think that Rhea could have seen how her crest system was causing others the same pain that she herself felt when her family was killed before her eyes. Granted, Edelgard really has no reason or opportunity to tell Rhea about that, and with Rhea's poor mental health and position of power that she refused to abdicate and likely would have continued to hold for many more generations had she been allowed to, a conflict was inevitable - and indeed, there were many. Just look at poor Lonato for evidence of that. But there were a lot of people on her side - good people, like Cyril, Catherine, Flayn and Seteth... people who were DEVOTED to her, and would die to defend her in such conflicts. And many of them did, especially since some of them just couldn't be recruited to stand against Rhea. And that sucks. I just wish that there was a way to save all of the characters.
Warm Lillie I think she started a war that could have been avoided if she’d talked to the other house leaders or Rhea about her concerns, personal history, and feelings, thus getting an untold number of people killed needlessly. I don’t find that adorable in the slightest.
