    +jammidodger While I can understand that the question is extremely personal, I'm sure there have been some people who've asked the question who are trying to better understand the ftm journey. Rather than simple puerile interest, some people asking this question genuinely want to understand the process of deciding whether or not to have bottom surgery. The why or why not to have the surgery, and how the experience was (or wasn't) for you, is just as much something that interests people as all that you've shared about having top surgery. The only difference between talking about top surgery and bottom surgery is that most people are raised to think of their genitals as something they discuss only with a very select group of people (as you outlined in your video).
    Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that you should answer that question even though you're uncomfortable with it. Obviously, the choice to talk about it or not should be left entirely up to you. But I do think that your supposition that no one asking the question has the proper motivation is in error. Yes, it's true. Some people are just rude asshats. But I think a lot of people are just looking for some guidance and/or better understanding of the ftm process and the choices transitioning people have to make.

      If wanting to know about the journey to bottom surgery was the goal, then that person would ask a more constructive question, such as "have you felt it necessary to complete bottom surgery to fulfill your gender identity?" No one simply asks "do you have a penis?" under the guise of deeper knowledge; it's pure Rude curiosity.
      Can you honestly say it's any different than some random person asking a woman "what's your cup size?" Sure, they could be asking because they like how the bra fits the woman nicely & thusly want to know what brand it is. But if that's the goal, wouldn't the more pertinent question be, "what brand of bra are you wearing?"
      It's simply and plainly rude to ask blunt questions like those. This is the internet for f'ing sake... one can take Time to write a Mindful question that actually captures the Meaning behind why one's asking it in the first place.

    So... click bait? I clicked here to learn about ftm Trans and all I leaned was "don't be curious." sorry. I'm curious. Guess I'll resume my search elsewhere. perhaps retitle the video with something like, "what not to ask a ftm"

      @stijn slim -- If you are curious about such things and click on a video entitled, "Ask
      a heterosexual woman: Do I have a smelly vagina?" "Do I swallow semen?"
      and then get told that you shouldn't be curious about such things, you
      would have a right to feel mislead by the title. If you walk up to an
      unassuming person on the street and say, "Hey, do you swallow semen?"
      then yeah, you might be stepping out of line. However, if the person
      invites your curiosity, then reprimands you for having it, you are not
      the one in the wrong.
      As to your suggestion, I did google that. This person's video was at the top of the google results page.

    Allow me to respectfully disagree with your opinion. Transgenger and transsexual people are a recent reality in humankind (yes, there have been transgenders for a long time, but being allowed to be one openly is something from the 20th century). If people like you are making videos to create awareness and understanding, you shouldn't feel offended if people who don't know your reality ask you about genitalia. Biology tells us that the main difference between men and women is the reproductive system. You are a person with a female reproductive system but a male appearance. Having people asking what kind of genitalia you have is just normal. It's obvious that some can get confused and need enlightment.

    • @Jammidodger
      @Jammidodger  9 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      +VeraDonna Creating awareness and understanding does not require people to know the status of trans peoples genitals. It isn't normal to ask a stranger about their genitalia, and it shouldn't be thought of as okay just because someone is transgender.
      If you think you need to fulfill a curiosity to understand people who are transgender, and think genital status is something that is relevant to raising awareness, then you are seriously mistaken.

    I'm reading the comments on this and I don't get it when cis people defend the question as curiosity. Just because you're curious about something doesn't mean it's appropriate to ask about it. Even if you only take our word for it, well, we're the ones you're asking, so you basically have to listen to us when we say it's rude to ask that.

    If you're trans, you have got to understand something: PEOPLE ARE CURIOUS, and you need not take offense to the inevitable questions. Hell, I STILL don't understand all of the terminology and what's what, let alone to try to imagine how a penis can even be constructed and look relatively normal....when you tell people that your trans, well....they're going to have questions and you should expect that. If it were me, I wouldn't mind these questions at all; then again, I've always been very open and I have no problem discussing anything sexual about myself, trans or not.

      I wasn't being sarcastic when I said that I loved that he didn't answer the question. I legitimately love that he didn't. Thank you for informing me about FTM's. I've been in transition for 10 years, so I'm well aware of the FTM experience. And FYI, It's probably best if you didn't speak negatively about surgeries that you don't have extensive knowledge or experience with. It's fine that some trans people don't want surgery, but there are amazing outcomes that are possible for folks that need them. And very well "worth it".

    • @soupitywoop
      @soupitywoop 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounded a lot like you were being sarcastic so I simply read it differently. I wasn't aware that you were FTM so it wasn't my fault that I misinterpreted what you said. Don't tell me I don't have experience. I don't want to be belittled by someone like me only because I don't have the privilege or support to come out and transition. I speak negatively about the surgeries because I've looked everywhere to find out about something that will end up actually looking decent and I have yet to find anything. I would prefer not to cut the skin of my arms and legs to form something that doesn't even remotely resemble a penis. That's only my opinion. As much as it kills me that I don't have male body parts, I wouldn't want to regret something so serious.

Our world is changing with more brave people like you who take the time to show many that there´s always another option on how to realease or reorganize the pressure in our heads. Stay as cool as possible when the insults and vulgar curiosity strikes from those who are only reflecting their own pressures; "they" may not have the same issues to deal with, the same lessons nor the same support from others.. but, that "pressure".. that one is always the same.. To me asking this question is due to curiosity, for those of us who aren't going through this transition or don't personally know anyone who is but still support it. There's nothing wrong with wanting more knowledge about it. For me I watched the buzz feed video about him and then I went to his profile and watched some of his videos and on his buzz feed video he said he thought he was a boy growing up which implies that he in fact had a penis when he was a child and there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking the question. I say that but let me also state that I do respect his decision to keep his answer a secret bc it is his choice. And I admire how brave he is for putting his business out there for people to know and to help those of us who are curious about the transition. 😊

    Imo it's a perfectly legitimate question, not necessarily to ask just like that in a casual conversation, but more for the enlightment of the common cisgender people (which I am part of). What I think most of the people want to know are things like: Can a trans person have a fully functional sex life with new genitelia? Does a trans man have erections and does a trans woman naturally lubricate? Is there a certain proportion of trans people who choose to relate to their sexual identity but to live their life with the genitelia they were born with?
    As a gay man, I can relate to the "What's going on in my bedroom is none of your business" part, but I think it is our duty to give answers on several subjects to help people understand us more. On a more personal level, I came here because I've seen a few trans people on dating apps and I just couldn't figure out if dating a trans man could be something I would be confortable with and what are the things someone can expect in regard of sex life... I know it's probably very different with each person, but I think it would make things a lot easier not only for us cisgender, but also for you trans and queer people, to tell us some scenarios we can relate to.

      Wow calm down Phi Phi... Normally I would just assume a guy I would fool around with has a penis. I actually went through the same process as when I was questioning my sexuality: would I go out with a man with a vagina? I tried to watch "pussy boy" porn and turns out I'm not interested, turns out I like penises and not vaginas, even on a boy. Does that make me a perverted fuck? No, just a plain gay man who likes dick. Now I'm sure there's more to it than men with vaginas, but the VAST MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE OUT THERE know virtually NOTHING on this subject. To which extend does a "fake penis" work and how? Can it be erect? Try giving answers instead of insulting people.

      Hey, I appreciate where you're coming from, and I get that people are frustrated thinking they will get the answer. But I made this video (and the other one you commented on) to highlight just how often I am asked these questions, how invasive they are, and how inappropriate it is to expect an answer (and even to ask in the first place) just because I'm trans. I tried for a very long time to just ignore the questions, but I've literally been asked about my genitals and sex life hundreds of times both online and in real life. The titles are the questions because the content is my answer to them - as well as highlighting a few other points in relation to them - they're just not the answers that the people who ask are looking for.

      Please tell me how the answer would increase education, awareness or help people understand better? Because I don't see how it does any of those. It instead would just satisfy curiosity (Google is amazing for this by the way).

If someone asked a non trans person what's in their pants than they would not really hesitate to say a penis or vagina as long as they are not in a place that is formal like school or work. If a lot of people are curious then just tell them. I think you shouldn't add a taboo to sex and your sexuality since all that does is create stigmas around the FTM community

    I am really impressed with his transition through the years. The penis question is really not all about being transgender. As a male we find that the penis fixation of any kind is just an all around male thing. Granted that the transgender genital curiosity does have a play when it comes to the general public, men are just absolutely obsessed with male genitalia especially in the "Gay" world. Guys can attempt to defend themselves against this but it would only be absolute denial. Famous Gay bar quote: "How big is it, cut or uncut?"

    I think for me, it's the curiosity of knowing why you choose to have the surgery for it or not. However, I understand that it must be way frustrating to get asked this question by transphobics who don't understand the difference between sex and gender.

  • @wakaran2414

    I was considering asking because I'm having issues with my gender and considering transitioning if I can break down the mental walls but I don't know if I want bottom surgery. At this time I don't know if I want full top surgery or to just wear binder or the open shirt binding method. I just dunno and I know most people look at your chest or legs when trying to determine gender if they can't tell by face or hair and I dunno if it's considered rude or bad to wear something in your underwear like socks or something. I felt bad asking so I didn't but I mean, I dunno.

    • @Jammidodger
      @Jammidodger  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, this video wasn't at all aimed at people who are asking because they are trans themselves/questioning their gender, and are asking in terms of bottom surgery. (I have made a video recently on bottom surgery and my opinions on it, if you're interested).
      This video was for people who are literally just curious, or think that they can learn more about trans people but knowing about their genitals, which isn't the case.
      In terms of yourself, I would recommend just taking things at a slow pace, experiment with different options of binding and see how that makes you feel, and there is nothing rude or bad about wearing something in your underwear. It's called packing, and you can do DIY version, like socks, or you can buy a packer (which is essentially a silicone penis).

    I honestly never would have thought that would be an offensive question if not asked in a deliberately offensive way, but now that you've explained it I totally understand how it would be and feel stupid for not considering that before. One thing though, with regard to only asking in the two scenarios you mentioned, in the first one I'm not sure I agree that a person would have to be on the verge of having sex with you to want to know that. For some people, it would be important for them to know that before entering into any kind of romantic/sexual relationship with you at all, because, while they may not have an issue with the fact that you weren't born in a man's body, they may have a certain physical preference that they are attracted to, and if you don't have it, it may not work out. Some may or may not consider that to be closed-minded, but there will be people who wouldn't be able to entertain the idea of a relationship without knowing the physical details. My point is that when someone has a growing romantic interest in you, it may not be inappropriate for them to ask such a question before pursuing a relationship if it's the kind of thing they'd consider a "deal breaker."

    A lot of transgenders out there would ask this question too. As I understand it, there is the general top surgery that people transitioning FTM do. The bottom, however, is not readily visible to the world like breasts and pecks so its very optional.
    I guess the problem I see is that there's a lot of trans who feel free talking about the progress in their top surgery and zero that talk at all about bottom surgery. Seems very prudish and hypocritical to me. There's those that ask just for some immature giggle and theres those that ask for actually good, helpful, reasons. Your video only seems to address the former, ignoring your fans, the latter.

    • @Jammidodger
      @Jammidodger  9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Charles Hoots I made this video because I got so many anonymous messages literally just saying "Do you have a penis?". So yes my video does just address the people who ask purely out of curiosity, or for some other immature reason. If you don't understand that, then you missed the point of the video.
      I am not addressing people who ask because they want to find out more about a certain procedure and are seeing if I can give them information, nor am I addressing those who want to find out if bottom surgery is something I have done/am considering. This is because if people send me a sensible message asking for information or for help because they do not know what to do, then I will do my best help them and share my personal experiences. This video definitely does not address those people.
      I am not being prudish or hypocritical by not answering the question "do I have a penis?" to random strangers who ask me on the internet for no other reason than curiosity. I do not have to answer any questions about my genitals. To anyone. Ever. So even if I didn't help out people who send me sensible messages about this topic, I would still not be being prudish of hypocritical. No one would be, as no one has any obligation to talk about, or answer questions to strangers online about things that they wish to remain private.
      I hope this could help you understand the video more, and who it was aimed at.

      This video was not addressing questions about surgery, if I knew enough to make a video about lower surgery procedures, then I would. This was addressing being asked about my genitals by people who have no interest in how lower surgery works, they are just being intrusive.
      If you want to know more about lower surgery options, then look into phalloplasty and metoidioplasty - those are the two broad types of lower surgery trans guys can get, and then within this there are variations and different combinations of procedures.

Most biological men adhere to the notion that just because u say u are something doesn't mean you are all that thing. So by asking, "do u have a penis?" they want to know at what stage in ur transition are you? Are u still a biological woman? or have u taken the step to become an artifical man?
