      Haha human nature bro! People will always need some sort of an external threat/injustice/imperfection to blame or fight against, whether real or imagined, every single day in their own empty lives...or else they cannot even survive themselves, psychologically speaking. So they make one another miserable as well.
      And the more empty and fearful and insecure a person feels at heart, the more he will judge and criticize and seek out greater and greater superiority/control over everyone and everything around him. This is the source of all human suffering and separation and conflicts. Everything comes in circles.

    I am going to have to remember that line about cayenne, "I need to add it to survive." My husband has the most sensitive to heat pallet I have ever known and he asks every time why I am adding cayenne to food. He can't even taste the amounts added to the food, he still asks anyway. Keep up the great work!

    This is so damn cool! I'm Israeli and I've been watching you for a long time! :)
    By the way there is another way to make this. Just cooked couscous and warm it up in the microwave with a little bit of butter then add some cottage cheese and enough milk to make it moist (or to drown it if you like it that way, plus it absorbs the milk) and you're ready for a treat :)

  • @tangentcarrot
    @tangentcarrot 8 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    "Israeli Couscous" is never called couscous in Israel. It's called "ptitim", which literally translates to "flakes". It was invented by Israeli food company Osem, as a replacement for rice, during the Period of Austerity, to the request of Prime Minister Ben Gurion. It is baked, unlike other pasta products, and comes in many different shapes- orzo like, little stars, this couscous like shape, etc.
    In Israel nowadays it is more of a students\little kids\people who really don't know how to cook food. You would never, never see it in a restaurant.

    ok wow ok, so people, TO CLARIFY this RECIPE is NOT called Israeli couscous. Chef Jon is referring to the INGREDIENT, that,in North America, is labeled "Israeli Couscous". Its the same product as regular Couscous (originally from wherever you so adamantly claim it to be from - insert country here) and they are BOTH tiny pasta made from semolina. But whats labeled as "Israeli Couscous" is larger. Almost all dried pasta (see Italian dried pasta) is made from durum semolina. You may continue your hate parade

    • @tangentcarrot

    There is no such thing as Israeli couscous. Nor such thing as Israeli cuisine. It's a pasta known as Aich Berkoukes in North Africa, and tabouli in the Middle East. It is Berber, as old as couscous, and was around for a thousand years before the Israelis claim to be their couscous in 1950. This pasta is to israel, like octopus salad is the Subsaharians

    • @yaarapaz1638
      @yaarapaz1638 10 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      so..... you are wrong. i understand how that would happened since the translated name is not very good, but you are still wrong. israeli couscous is actually nothing like couscous. it is calles pteetim in hebrew, and it is a pasta, not couscous. the translation is just wrong, thats all. it is a dish that was invented in israel when there was a shortage in rice and the goverment asked Osem to make something else that looks similar. it originally looked like rice, now there are many shapes to this, its a pasta you can shape it whichever way you want.

      look, stop being so wrong. The 51st US state is Puerto Rico, not Israel. All of US wars did not originate from Israel, stop lying. Some Israelites today come from the Khazars because the Khazars were formed from migrating Jews from the Levant in 70 AD. The Khazar kingdom was founded hundreds of years after the Jews left the Levant under the curses, so the timeline, and the locations, fit perfectly. Stop lying about the Jews and cease your BHI racist ways.
      And leave this discussion off of a cooking channel, we come here to watch Chef John cook delicious food and see how easy it is so we try it. We don't need this type of discussion here.

  • @purpleghost106

    Wiki it, it's a type of pepper, not quite the same as a bell pepper but similar.
    There are also what are called 'pimento' preserves, these include pieces of pimento in the preserve, some times the spicing in the preserve is styled after pimentos too. :) (so pimento olives for instance, just have pimento bits stuffed into their cores where the pit was)
    But generally it refers to the actual pepper type, just like habaneros and jalapenos are peppers but not bell peppers. Hope that helps. :)

    well some of the audience needs a good talking to! These videos are free and he puts his time and his effort into making these videos and people go on to harp on little details! People just need to appreciate it not start a whole argument.

    judging people and saying that they are stupid doesn't make you any better than them !! and each person have the right to say his opinion as you can .. without attacking anyone !

    The core of the Egypt underground army is shattered.
    How could Chef John, whom you've believed in so faithfully, how could he have misinterpreted your enemy's ethnic roots to create such wonderful dishes...

    there are more than enough videos on that exact subject on youtube. why would you choose this video over them to debate this subject? the fact that there's Israel in the subject line is motivation enough?

    Actually "Cuscus" is made of something called "Semolina", which is a finely sifted flour.
    What you used is called "Ptitim", which is actually just baked pasta - here it comes in many shapes - there are star shaped baked pasta, ring shape baked pasta, rice shaped baked pasta and "cuscus" shaped baked pasta which is what you used.
    So for the people that said they can't find it as "Israeli cuscus" - try to look for baked pasta - if you find the real "Israeli cuscus" (Semolina) it won't work!

    I'll have to use brown rice couscous due to my fabulously horrible gluten intolerance, but this will definitely be in a future meal. *drool*

    Hi Chef John, thanks so much for making different and unique foods, not the usual 'copy and paste' that seems to be prevalent on TH-cam. I'll try this out someday :-) thanks again
