I’ve been learning the guitar for around 18 months and I love Oasis/ Noel’s music. I’m no musician, but what I’ve noticed is that Noel seems to be the musical version of a Chef that’s got 5 Michelin stars but only uses the food in his mom’s kitchen to cook.
I’ve seen loads of incredible musicians on TH-cam, TikTok and instagram etc, slaying guitar solos, juggling drumsticks and playing bass guitars with seemingly magical finger movements, but none of them can write an album of music that changes the musical landscape of a generation by using such simple chords and original melodies.
And he’s a proper music fan. Absolute hero to me ✊🏻😎✊🏻
love that comment mate
Facts! ❤
This is well timed. I’ve been studying these tutorials and they have significantly improved my playing. It feels like they have been building up to this one
I’ve watched so many tutorials about the pentatonic scale but your tutorials has really opened my eyes to how to move around the fret board. Thanks 😊
Perfect video in time for the current Oasis reunion.
Once i reach the guitar skills of Noel i may be in the position to say that he is an average guitarist. Until then i gaze in wonder and try my best. Great inspiration. Thx for this video 👌
Easy for a cover band, hard to create....
This is the perfect video for the perfect solo, a double Masterclass!!!
I almost skipped past this for I thought it was too simple, but then I decided to stick around and learn the lead and damn it was awesome!!!
I’ve seen you teach those shapes numerous times, it’s some of the first things I tried to use , I’ve also seen Noel Gallagher playing numerous times on videos, but never actually noticed he was using that scale/ shape , great video, and it just highlights what you’ve been showing us ,, finger wise I struggle to get my pinky involved ( osteoarthritis in my hands , so limited mobility, ) it’s something I’ve actually been concerned about, but it looks like I could probably manage with the fingers that work 😂( to be fair , I’m still 💩, but only been playing 18 months) look forward to your next tutorial 👍👍🤠🎸
I know what you mean. I have the same problem with my hands, but I get by and never get put off by it. Just love the Guitar 🎸 .
@@mickh1402 oh yeah, it doesn’t put me off , I have a good go at it , I’ll never be headlining at Wembley or auditioning for oasis 😂, I often wish I’d kept learning as a youngster but unfortunately back in the 80’s I got distracted by girls in Ra Ra skirts and leg warmers , along with cars , now I’m 54 and learned my lesson 😂, 👍👍🤠🎸
@c.h.fieldsports9876 Yes, those were the days. That's for sure. Those beautiful girls. It's all thier fault. 👍 🍻
@@mickh1402 yeah, definitely their fault 😂
Brilliant lesson, beautifully explained; thank you!
Thanks for another useful, fun lesson, Jules!
This was excellent! Ironically I approach the guitar much the same way as Noel, unintentionally of course. Some of this theory touches what I've been working on with my guitar instructor. It's all good good timing I say! Cheers mate!
Thank you Jules, your videos have transformed my guitar playing. I'm starting to sound like I know what I'm doing!
Great video .. the right choice of guitar for this song too ❤
A very good, example of usage of pentatonic shapes across the neck
The only Gallagher that was underrated was Rory Gallagher ‼️👍
👍🏼
I think they're both underrated at least by the mainstream/cork sniffers. Rory and Noel are easily two of my biggest influences. One for blues mastery and the other for the art of songwriting.
@@M1M25Way to prove the guy's point
@@M1M25 you did not think this one through, eh? lmao
Amen!
Liam Gallagher is also a underrated guitarist
Brilliant mate nice one
File 'Noel Gallagher Guitar Mastery' next to 'Raygun Breakdance Brilliance' and 'Mrs Brown's Boys Comedic Genius'.
Use the letters NGGM. Then again for Noel Gallagher’s Gold & Money…
as much as i have zero to no whelm for oasis this was a great vid
Well done, and thanks, Jules. Great stuff 🎸👍
Awesome lesson, Jules! Thanks so much for walking us through that beautiful solo and all those great techniques!
Well done Jules.... very much appreciated mate!
I like the way you make it clear in the text description that you are talking about the Noel Gallagher who is from Oasis. You never know when a Martian might be watching your video.
In fairness Noel's been a single artist for over a decade now without any mention of Oasis in his shows. Some of the younger fans who go watch Liam live dont even know what Oasis is..they think its a still drink with summer fruits.
It's my all-time favorite guitar solo. There are plenty more technical solos out there, but for me, a great gutair solo has to compliment the song, and this one is just the best. The million note solos leave me cold, a simple solo always sounds better to my ear.
**edit...omg, a unison pitch bend! I've been wondering what the heck that sound is called. Thank you for answering a question I've had in my mind for ages!
Great lesson. Thank you sir😊
Noel is a great guitarist for early guitar players to look at - easy chords and rewarding songs to learn fairly quickly, and song easy lead playing (not a dig, it’s easy to play but harder to write catchy solos etc). He’s a better songwriter than guitarist but ideal for keeping early players interested
I could never use the pentatonic scale as melodically as he does. He always puts the melody first and foremost but it's a bit hard to do that with strictly the pentatonic scale (at least for me). I think singing a melody while you're playing it might help.
One of my favourite Noel's solos is the one he plays at the end of Slide Away (Wembley 2008). He plays a weird dissonant note there that might catch your attention.
I don't have Noel down as a particularly good guitarist. He is a truly amazing songwriter though. That's where his strength lies. I'm no big fan of oasis but their songs are almost all singable. That's some serious talent. The rate he churned quality melodies and lyrics out out was off the scale
Melodies? Yes. Lyrics? Not so much.
I think they are really good lyrics
Thank you
I like Noel's solos. Yes they're not ultra technical and fast but that's why they are good. You explain that well. A guitarist friend once said to me that music is the gaps between the notes. This is right. I always prefer musicians that leave space in their music. If you are playing at a million miles an hour with stereotypical riffs it's utterly boring and unengaging. Guitarists that slow down a bit and tease the listener with fairly simple riffs but that repeat in slightly different ways are far more interesting to the ear.
Brilliant lesson. I can play guitar , I can play this, but I have zero knowledge of the theory and can’t get my head around scales. I can play by copying and memorising which I am sure is sacrilege to most and it makes me feel guilty. I don’t want write any songs so I tell myself it’s ok haha😂
No reason to feel guilty if it sounds good then it sounds good
I like good music and that's what Noel creates, with his guitar licks and solos contributing musically to the song. He's written a lot of great guitar songs, with attractive solos. Lindsey Buckingham did the same in Fleetwood Mac, albeit at a superlative level and often for Christine and Stevie's songs. Noel's guitar playing is more accessible and inspired me to play when Definitely Maybe hit the streets 30 years ago. Keith Richards is also not technically great but highly musical.
This is closely related to the Let it Be solo. Both C major pentatonic.
Theres a mentality amongst guitarists that the best guitar player is the fastest. Never taking melody into account at all.
...or you could possibly do both, if you're as talented as someone like Jeff Beck. Nothing wrong with technique if its applied musically.
He’s an instinctively great songwriter.
This comment section is great. On one hand you’ve got the grandads harping on about Van Halen (who wrote some properly awful songs by the way), and Oasis fans whose only comeback is ‘Oh, but he’s sold millions of records so you must be wrong.’ These are the facts - the song is a hit; Noel Gallagher is not a great guitarist; a shred guitar solo that winds through unlistenable modes and sweep-picking would wreck this anthem of a song. Its simplicity is its strength.
I fricking love EVH. I also love Noel Gallagher's playing also.
For the best example of his pentatonic expertise, take a look at the video entitled 'Best Outro Ever', which features a massive solo at the end of Champagne Supernova.
Great video , thanks. Subbed
Listen to the solo from Damaged by Primal Scream. Suspiciously similar...
I hear that. To be fair some of those licks are in many guitar solos. E.g. One of the licks is in All Right Now solo from 1970…
Great VI Thank you
항상감사합니다^^
Hey, here is a masterclass for all you fretboard w****r/s out there complaining about someone giving Noel some respect.
The people that you admire will never ever ever sell Wembley Stadium a venue of 100,000 seats, 10 times in a row!
The whole point of music is to make people feel good and Noel Gallagher has achieved that millions upon millions of times over for decades now ! And judging by the demand to see him back in Oasis, that fact has just been amplified to becoming a global phenomenon unlike anything we’ve seen!
Song writing, melodic playing and having an incredible ability to makes millions happy consistently!
That is what being a true artist and musician is all about!
Class over !!
Brilliant!!
JULES, Noel Gallagher uses SLASH Chords and unusual chords which you should find them listen to a lot of oasis songs to make a lesson about these Oasis/Beatles chords
Awesome!
Reunion 2025!!!! Hoping to sang tix on Saturday morning... which will probably be sold out in 8 seconds 😅
Primal scream. Damaged. 🤫😉
Noel is the poor man's Johnny Marr.
Have you been waiting 15 years to release this video?
Neil young was also very simplistic in his approach to solos . Not wrong but really exposes a lack of guitar theory and chops
What amazes me about these online TH-cam teachers is the inaccuracy of the source. It’s not Noel Gallagher pentatonic soloing masterclass, it’s George Harrison licks inspired from Country & Western music & THEN STOLEN by Noel Gallagher.
I don’t like the wrong people getting the kudos if they are blatantly copying others.
He is a great song writer. If it weren't for that, he's a pub musician.
He ripped it off from the Primal Scream song, "Damaged".
Hmm. Never heard that song so I just listened. Yup, good call. He also took many of George Harrison’s ideas from the Let it Be distorted solo.
Somebody else just said he ripped off Let it Be. So which is it? Either way, the Noel ripping others off debate was boring in the 90's and hasn't got any better in the following 30 years.
One of my favorite solos. So much better than “hey look at me “shredder crap from EVH, Guthrie Gowan or Yngwie
Nice attention to the details. But this wasn't exactly a Noel Gallagher masterclass. The solo was robbed off Primal Scream. th-cam.com/video/MLEtOQC102w/w-d-xo.html
Try and unpick the pali gap by Hendrix
if you think this solo rips off let it be, you need to get a hearing aid.
it does however rip off damage by primal scream lol
Firstly Jaws of modern Oasis fan it is a good roof though but it's not good enough for me but yeah it's a riff will be over and loves to do a riff yes you can do a riff I could say it's not too bad yet
Noel is left handed and plays right handed guitar
Don't look back in anger ... also known these days as dynamic pricing ...
The solo was so good that Noel used it on every single Oasis song.
Yeh dya know what I mean, it's gettin better man, importance of being idle and the turning use exactly the same solo as this don't they?!? 😂😂😂😂😂
People saying he's average because it's easy and any basic guitarist can copy him, these people ain't got an artistic nature, all well and good copying, the speed and all the other nonsense is irrelevant, the guitar is an instrument, Noel makes it sing, laugh, cry, scream. That is why he is a great guitarist not because he can bar tap til smoke comes out is fingers
Noel had no musical lessons or understood any music theory back then (I have no idea where he is now).
Noel Gallagher is not a great guitar player in the traditional sense, but he's a great songwriter, always has a killer tone (I mean he can afford to have one) and plays simple catchy licks that always suit the songs. I love my shred and jazz fusion guys but anything more than Noel's bone headed(pun) licks would take away from these anthemic tunes.
His perfect solo is Live Forever, but hey.....
the solo is ripped off from damage by primal scream!!
Where's the feeling though ,playing notes is the easiest thing in the world but playing an instrument ! Not for me, but good luck with the vid 👍
🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
pronounced, gal-ah-her
Oh brother
where art thou?
Well I've been learning the Blues with you Jules 145 so I'll leave it that make good luck make you a good teacher buddy I must say thank you 0 Arthur tedder I don't know what the eyes in there for hit the wrong but I'm not going to clear up anyway you Arthur Jenner Lord after tattoo who was 13 commander the battle of are normally thank you
Not underrated at all
I would play rings around him lol
Most intermediates would
You need to get out more often.
He is a very mediocre player. And you know it.
Like Kurt Cobain ? Really shit…
Who cares it sounds great.
the most important thing is, that he himself knows it and even admitted it many, many times. it seems that all these potential fret wan*ers, sitting in their children's rooms and crying how simple and easy it is, seem to have a problem with it.
True but that solo is one for the ages melodically speaking
He's always said he's average at best. However he's one of the most melodic players out there.
😂😂😂😂
lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂
Not really a masterclass. Mostly a copy from beatles Harrison.
"How to write the perfect solo":
.Repeat a Primal Scream solo note for note.
th-cam.com/video/MLEtOQC102w/w-d-xo.html
I was at that gig. Just sayin'.
It's actually a direct rip off of George Harrison's solo on Let it Be.
How true!
Yer arse 😂
@@blairhatton3066 You might be able to play the fool, but you obviously can't play guitar.
@@hkpr-ro6uiI’m absolutely class on the guitar. Those two solos might be similar but DLBIA isn’t a direct rip off.
@@blairhatton3066 It is. Both songs are in Cmaj. Both have the same chords (C F G Am). Both have their solos in Cmaj's relative minor: Am pentatonic. Both descend an octave then return to the centre, then rise an octave. Both are played in the same positions on the fretboard, as Jules illustrates here.
DLBIA is especially a rip-off of the solo in Primal Scream's Damaged that copies Let it Be aswell.
Jules is mistaken - this isn't a "masterclass" - it's a predictable rip-off. You love them, but it's still another audacious rip-off.
"underrated" - he's not even at a level one would "rate".
Really🙄
His solos are pentatonic nonsense most of time, he is a great rhythm player but aside from live forever and the importance of being idle his solos are pretty boring lets be real. Noel is s great songwriter but hes a very average player, nothing wrong with that though
I mean it’s pretty much just the solo on Let It Be…
Still wonder why guitar players on TH-cam have the need to speak that much. Unbelievable.
He's not a good guitarist at all. Very average, and those weak, whiny bends in all his "solos?"😂
There are countless thousands of much much better guitarists playing in pub bands all over the world every night.
Hype and hysteria.
And it’s made him millions! While those other Pub guitarists are just that ! pub guitarist!😂and sound like your one of them !
@@duffers29 ....is "making millions £" your criteria for assessing talent? 😂 Fool.
Just think... think...there are undoubtedly many many very rich musicians, film stars etc who you think are shite. Your "argument" is shite and juvenile.
@@duffers29True, but that doesn’t make him a good guitarist.
@@KevinSheedy10 so what makes a good guitarist?
@@duffers29 A combination of great technique, innovation, writing original and catchy riffs, solos and fills that perfectly fit a song. Being able to play different styles. Being able to improvise. All of Noel’s songs are grade 3/4 difficulty wise.
Basic guitarist with little talent. Just has a big mouth
Prefer proper guitarists such as Sambora, Perry, Slash and Norum
Great song writer but no way underrated guitarist absolutely average at best
Masterclass? Really?
He’s not underrated because he’s just an average guitarist 😂
Most overated band of all time
No, you’re thinking of Coldplay.
*underrated
The answer to that question is KISS. Every. Single. Time.
His bends in the first part of the solo are flat.
Yeah, right on. I remember you totally nailed your bends when you were playing to a quarter million people at Knebworth. What a slacker!
@@simondodd918 he is not a good guitarist. The solo ‘works’ for the song, the song sucks. I’m sick of hearing that Oasis is a “guitar’ band. The guitar parts in Oasis suck badly. The only unique thing about Oasis is Liam.
@@NJackDunkleyand several songs that feature in people’s favourites.
Bends are flat ! 🤣🤣just sold a million tickets in 6hours ! I don’t think he give a shit 🤣🤣
He’s staring right at the fretboard concentrating hard and not nailing his own solo and a huge gig. I know what this tells me.
Compared to Ed Sheeran, he's practically Mozart. Just a level below Mozart... Mozfart?
That is an utterly boring solo. I tried listening to live recordings of Oasis, and just had to turn it off. Teen garage band level. And I’ve heard much better teen garage bands.
Absolutely nothing special about this solo
Dude, that solo is so mid. I guess it’s better than Corey Feldman’s tho
So this is his best work? Skill is in the song writing. It fits nice but nothing special. Took me 5 mins to learn and play. But as always talent is composition which I grant him. Worked with Ricky Gervais he is a nice bloke. Hats off for making it to the big time. But I can't stand the band.
Oxymoron 🤦♂️
