This is only funny because my rabbits never ate anything in my garden except my grass, but this spring they decided that the sweet potato vines and alternanthera i put in for place holders were their all you can eat buffet🤦🏾♀️ i still love them though, ive just learned to plant far more than their bellies can hold
I have cut sweet potato vine back several times this season; added benefit, stick the cuttings in another pot and create another plant. Love the signature garden, and I want to try those dahlias in my beds!
I have always remembered that we are supposed to give our plants a "July 4th haircut." I gave my supertunias/superbenas a major haircut yesterday. Today I'll tackle the coleus. Thanks Jenny for the reminder and justification for doing this. 😊
Just love it when you're whacking back plants. It never happens where I live as we have a short growing season. It's amazing how quickly plants come back and with beautiful flowers.
You inspired me to go out and trim back . I totally agree that by the end of June things need to be spruced up. Today so far weather in Delaware is behaving this morning with lower humidity. Your gardens are beautiful . If they ever awarded a prize to the most beautiful nursery, you and Jerry would win hands down.
You are such a little wealth of information! Thank you so very much, I really find your videos both helpful and absolutely inspiring!! Hugs little lady!! 🤗💕
Looks great! I was at the garden yesterday and I was so happy. Your staff was so nice. I really enjoyed talking to Cece. I got to have a little picnic for lunch. It was a dream come true. Can't wait to come back next year while on vacation!!!😊
Jenny, l love your garden, the color combination is just right. And also how healthy your garden is. I know it didn't happened just like that. It's thanks to your dedication and know how.❤.
I knew I was going to send someone into cardiac arrest 😉. These plants still have 4 months of growing time in my garden and if I don't do some type of pruning then they just would be a mess. In 2-3 weeks they will be even better than before!
I also love to 'prune back' when necessary. Glad the baby birds are happy & when ready will fly away. However, my local birds stay pretty close to Home, I like feeding them....
I stopped the video at 6:14 and ran out to cut back my Dahlias. Mine are deep crimson, very tall gifted from my sister in law. I now have a few flowers in a vase to enjoy.
I just hacked at most of my supertunias yesterday. 👍🏻 I've got a super long growing season, too. (Texas Panhandle) Thank you so much for sharing all that fantastic information, Jenny! You're fabulous! ✨
The Cleome in Missouri is not bush-like. Ours looks like an airy plant with giant Cleome flowers towering over the plant. Sometimes, I've started the plants from seed, and it takes from February to June to see the first flower bloom. We are in zone 6, so it definitely makes a difference in what zone you are in, I agree.
My Mom had one like yours. She left it in a certain pot and it reseeded every year. Just a couple long 2-2.5 ft stalks with 1 flower! She said it was Cleome....😊
This was so helpful. Today, I pruned some more on a baptisia while also weeding. I discovered a perennial geranium I'd planted earlier this spring when the "shrub" was smaller. I think living in the shadows stunted its growth. We'll see. I may have to move it into a sunnier location if it doesn't "Bloom. Grow. Thrive" there. And everything looks so tidy when pruned back. My nepeta planted just last year needs pruning back. It's starting to look like a jungle. 😱
I have a retail store where we sell hanging baskets. Every year we have house finches nest in at least one or two of them. I just take the baskets down and hand water them around the nest. It doesn't bother the babies and the plants don't suffer as much.
I fill vases with the blooms I prune...kind of a redemptive feeling 😂 plus gives prolonged enjoyment to celebrate the beauty of my labor & the plants' performance. 😅🌺🎉. Your Cleome are really putting on a show!!
A smart statement, be a student of your own garden. I will apply rose tone to the hydrangeas even though I had originally fertilized with holly tone. Everything looks gorgeous in your garden and I didn't cringe when you pruned the clomi. I trust your judgement because I see results! Have a good day!
Always great info and inspiration! So glad that we got to see those cleomes in person at the Signature Experience. They were absolutely stunning but huge! I get why you cut those back, especially because there are so many other beautiful things left. The deck boxes plant combo was so beautiful!! Love that new PW cuphea for next year. Excited to get my hands on that!! 🥰
Oh my!! You did give people heart attacks with the Chelsea Chop! It makes me think I've got to get chopping! I've got a lot of flowers past their prime already.
I bet your sweet little baby birds are Carolina Wrens.😂 I can’t put a wreath on my front door, because they nest in it every time… They even sleep under my front porch ceiling on a little ledge with their little heads facing the wall! So stinking cute ❤South Carolina state Bird ❣️
Can I do the “Cleome Chelsea Chop” on my Vermillionaire? The dad-gum Japanese Beetles got after it and it went from full and luscious to thin and leggy looking before I knew what was happening!
I’ve learned SO much from you, Jenny! I’m more confident in pruning back my things now! Question about cleomes…mine seem to be on the struggle bus. Their foliage is not as vibrant as it should be; kinda yellow/dull green. I’ve fertilized, watered less, done all the things I thought they needed and they just aren’t thriving. They get full sun and have plenty of room to grow but they just seem…blah! Any tips? Thank you!!
Beautiful beautiful Gardens and have love watching the transformations .. how do you know if your hydrangea blooms on old wood or new wood if you are not sure what variety you have ? Thanks so much in advance and enjoy the July 4th celebration with your friends and family 💐
@@GardeningwithCreekside thank you. I'll try staking it in the meantime. I think all the foliage is too much weight for it's little trunk. Living in fear that it's going to snap.
Instead of pruning the entire plant, in the case of annuals, i am wondering whether pruning a few stems weekly would achieve the same without losing all the blooms for a number of weeks? It is one thing with your long growing season but for us in Canada, 3-4 weeks represents a good chunk of our Summer and the annuals usually start being straggly in August for us.
This may be a very silly question but what do you do with ALL of your clippings / pruning foliage? Do you have an area that you would typically put them? I would imagine that over the years it would make some nice compost ? 😍💐💚🙃
I am having the roast luck with my flower bed this year as well as my containers. Treated for bugs and diseases regularly, fertilized on a schedule, try to control the moisture as best I can. But everything is just underperforming, slow and frumpy. Year 3 in the garden and the first two years gave me too much confidence I think. I’m in Northeast Iowa zone 5a. Short growing season May-September at best. Hot, humid, rainy etc. we have had 90 degree weather with storms on either side of that. I have my flower bed facing south getting 10+ hours of sun. Containers get around 6 hours. Petunias like a little less Iowa sun. Calabrachoas are leggy and wire like and I have pruned and pinched and done all the things even fertilize with chelated iron . So frustrating! I’d anyone reads this far and has advice please help
Good morning Jenny!! I have a tiny red bud that my daughter gave me. It is 1 long, beautiful twig. It has leafed out, but it is bent. How can I fix it???
Oh I definitely took more than 30% and they will rebound wonderfully! Annuals can handle severe pruning where shrubs are a bit more delicate. Years of experience have taught me that the annuals will come out even better than before I pruned them.
I planted some superbina pink cashmere and they look terrible! They were shipped to me from a website and looked very wilted upon arrival. Watered and got them looking perky and then planted. No blooms and the leaves look speckled. Not sure what is happening-so disappointing! disappointed in them
Yes. I am sacrificing the current blooms so that I can enjoy the plants for the next 3-4 months. I don’t mind loosing flowers for 2 weeks so that I can have them for those 3-4 months 😊
I truly don’t think I’ve seen prettier gardens. Y’all have just excelled the year!
the rabbits usually prune everything before I get to them. sometimes they prune stuff down to soil
I have the same problem. 💐💚🙃
Ugh, same. 😣
😂 same here!
🤣🤣

So sweet to accept the baby birds. The baskets can always be replanted.❤
I have cut sweet potato vine back several times this season; added benefit, stick the cuttings in another pot and create another plant. Love the signature garden, and I want to try those dahlias in my beds!
Still pretty after pruning!

Lol I truly appreciate you being ok with your own sanity. Some people just don't understand the importance of staying in their own lane.
My nanny used to do that too. I'd help her all year long in the garden
Everything is looking gorgeous ❤.

Great job pruning! Everything looks so healthy!
I am so scared to prune, even though I know it is good for my plants. This video gives me courage!
You can do it!!!

Hampton Hack - named for being timed in the season around the time of Hampton Court Flower Show
Looks great, look forward to seeing the new blooms. Your back porch area is gorgeous! I love seeing the draping dichondra silver falls.
Cutting back mid season gives a breath of fresh air to the surrounding plants. Things are looking great Jenny.
Exactly!!!
Good morning, Jenny☕️I can’t watch 😳😱🫣 20:21 I am having a heart attack 😂 The Cleome looked so good! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐶

Awesome job❤it’s so satisfying….. love the work you’re doing, hope you are enjoying the day ❤
Thank you so much for all the tips. your garden looks amazing!
You are so welcome!
I learn so much from garden maintenance videos and appreciate them!
I tackled some petunias yesterday and am doing roses this weekend!
Thank you for this video. I just pruned my annuals that I potted up. Have second guessed myself ever since. 😂 I needed a bit of reassurance.
I appreciate these pruning tips and have gained more confidence from watching your videos. Thank you!
I'm so glad!

Great video Jenny! I’m going to get after my Annabelle’s!
By the way, you look lovely in pink!
Very helpful!…thanks, Jenny❤
Mystic Illusion dahlia is a favorite of mine. Grows well in containers too.
I appreciate you so much! You educate, and that is what many need ❤
The lack of rain this month in NC has been brutal!! My annuals even with daily watering and fertilizer have been struggling 😢😢
I just cut back my salvia and catmint, zone 7a PA 🌿
I felt myself breathe better after the Cleome were trimmed!😂 Now I think my petunia needs a trim!
Thanks Jenny. 💐💚🙃
Oh my!! You did give people heart attacks with the Chelsea Chop! It makes me think I've got to get chopping! I've got a lot of flowers past their prime already.
lol…love it! Chop away girl!
Bless you. 🤧
Could I cut back my Vermillionaire plant? It’s just not as full as I think it should be.
Absolutely!
You gave ample warning regarding the cleome, but whoa.
Plants are pretty amazing when it comes to growth. Those roses by your door are really pretty. Did you use any of the cleome in a vase?

GM Jenny,
My Cally Lillies leaves r turning yellow.
Should I cut them back? I am in Georgia, Zone 7b.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent. 😊

God bless you

I just gave my Supertunias in hanging baskets their first haircut!
Yay!!!

Good Morning Jenny! Do you know what is the best time to prune a Rising Sun Redbud?
Morning! I trim my redbud in early spring after it flowers.

We have several areas throughout the property where we put our “green” debris. From the earth it comes and to the earth it returns 😊

So do you not have mosquitoes biting your legs
We have very little mosquitos

disappointed in them
Give them a good prune and then fertilize them. They should rebound quickly in the next 2 weeks.
Am I missing something? You’re pruning away flowers so you can keep enjoying this plant later, but not now? This bed is so pretty.
She explains in the first 2 minutes! Happy gardening!
Yes. I am sacrificing the current blooms so that I can enjoy the plants for the next 3-4 months. I don’t mind loosing flowers for 2 weeks so that I can have them for those 3-4 months 😊
