That was an example of "True Talent". This is music that is inspirational, imaginative and entertaining. Artists like this should get more air time on TV and Radio.
He's incredible! Fabulous technique. This type of music is not that easy to play. And he's a wonderful showman. His performance grabs you. I adore the Hungarian gypsy violin music! Always very lovely and extremely schmaltzy!
Thank you so much Martin Lass. Absolutely fantastic violin! What a great skill and talent (and handsome too). My Dad had an LP record of similar gypsy music. "Just for a Lark" @ 3.52 sounds very similar as I remember, and I really thought it was fab violin. I have just searched several sites on TH-cam before finding this site and I can say that none have come close this wonderful video. Really lively sound. Violin at its best!
First piece is "Two Guitars"... my arrangement of a gypsy classic. There is also "The Canary," "Sonnet," "The Lark," and "Those Were the Days" ("Road to Vladivostok")... some of the sheet music for these is available on my website. TH-cam won't let me post a link (why??), so go to martinlass d o t c o m and click the link for half price sheet music (scroll down the page a little). Enjoy! :-)
gypsy music draws upon all different national folk musics... russian, hungarian, armenian, rumanian... lots of eastern European sources... and then the gypsies give it their own flavor/twist/soul, expressing what is essential in their soul.
Hi! Nice preformance! I love listen that music, I love "Red violin" the movie, and many others classical themes witch gypsy motives: Sarasate, Monti, Brahms. In you preformace I especially like firts piece, "Two Guitars... and a Violin". Good work.
I had a comment from somebody telling everybody here that what I play is not real gypsy music... To each his own... everything evolves... the roots of what I play are most certainly gypsy. And I bow down to those who have gone before me, including the legend that our friendly commenter mentioned as being a "real" gypsy, i.e. Grigora Dinicu, whom, it is rumored, was described by Heifetz as the greatest violinist that ever lived. In my next post, an example of Dinicu's mastery...
Daniel, I'm now living in Sydney, Australia... still doing a few headline shows on cruise ships. And a few other shows here and there. May be coming back to the USA in the spring, but will keep everybody posted on my website, on fb, and through my email list, which you can find on my website.
I was commenting on my FB page this morning about Chiron -- never realizing that you are the Fiddler on the Roof in my existence this time. Bringing the winds of change....and my hair really isn't red either. - SueAnn
Hi Martin do you remember the days in Chippendale with Colin & Fiona. I am the bassplayer that shared with them for a while. I now run a string program and can't wait to show my kids your clip. Fantastic!
@darominu Hi Dariusz... that's a long time ago! One of my first cruises on RCI! Hope all is well with you. I like the music on your website... all the best to you!
yeah i met him when i was really young 2, i was at the fiddler consort aswell, i think it was like 7 years ago or something, and a 4years back, i was at the shops at like 9pm and i met him walking to his car again lol
Unfortunately, there is not yet a full video of "Two Guitars" online, but I have one, which will be put up on youtube in the near future... stay posted!
Wow im somewhat into classical music but generally my taste is in very fast sort of neoclassical metal with guitar. Im curious what the part at 1:09-2:09 would sound like if transposed from the origional score onto guitar. I dont suppose youd have any idea on where i could find sheet music for this song would you? If not thats fine, either way i really enjoyed listening to this. That guy kicks ass.
For examples of the legendary gypsy violinist, Grigoras Dinicu, search his name here at TH-cam... I can't seem to post links to the specific videos... Enjoy!
Send an email to the contact on the website. I will reply personally, giving details of music available, prices, etc. Let me know what you are interested in. Thanks!
Have seen him performing live at the School of Arts Cafe, Queanbeyan, Australia, and he is out of this world. Makes the violin sing and appreciated.
He is another kind of Paganini. He is fantastic. What a strength, on this mild instrument. Amazing he does not break it.
That's right; I'm not Roma. My background is Hungarian, Russian, and German. But I grew up with gypsy music around me.
First song is "Two Guitars" - a traditional Russian folksong.

Congrats Martin, great playing!
At around 4.44, I've NEVER seen a violin played in that fashion, simply fascinating!
Wow. Incredible!!
I had Inspiration goosebumps the whole way through.
Paul :)
Amazing! I think I heard some of Bach's Partita #3: Prelude around 7:25, followed by Brahm's Hungarian Dance #5. Nice!
Bravo Maestro !

No, this was not recorded on Crystal Serenity. It was at "Don't Tell Mama" cabaret club in New York City.
As my five-foot Hungarian violin teacher used to say, "Get a girlfriend! And then practice, practice, practice! (On the violin, too!)"

This is great. Saw you at the School of Music, Queanbeyan. Where was the video shot.

Sheet music for most of these pieces is available. Computer printed, so great quality. Enquire at my website (Google: Martin Lass).

I don't actually have red hair! It was the lighting and the video... poor quality! But I guess it suits the musical style...? :-)
