  • I'm working on a 2006 3.3 Chrysler Town and Country with a blown water pump which has to be replaced. With other-model Dodge and Chryslers this job could be different, but with this particular year and model this is how it's done.
    This video includes step by step instructions and "do it yourself" instructions. If you follow them you will not have any problems.
    It's a common problem and it should be an easy, inexpensive fix but it often turns into a complex, complicated, expensive nightmare,
    Listen to what I'm saying, take it to heart and you can do this.
    If you want to do it right - watch this video.

    Get 10mm, class 10.9 (grade 8) 20mm long to replace the stock bolts-they are stronger and less likely to break. Used a Delco water pump with a cast impeller (I know it’s made in China, but everything comes from there anyway). Oh while I was at it I replaced the thermostat. Thanks for the righteous info, you’ve helped a lot of people navigate through a tough project. I gotta keep my 20 year old van on the road, by doing my own work.

      Great tips. Thanks for your input.
      Yeah - this one is tough and it has the potential to be a disaster even for the best of us.
      Merry Christmas.

    Some of the frame rails have a dimple/indentation that allow the pump to slide out and some don't forcing you to lower engine. Apparently it depends on if vehicle was made in US or Canada.

      This simply is not true on the Town and Country. On the Voyager it's true - not on the T&C.

      the only place the water pump and pulley will fit through is near that dimple. Took a bit to figure that out when I was putting it back in but slid right through that sweet spot and went right on next to the dimple

    I put a adjusting strap on the left side of the motor mount then to the right side and put it in the little hole In about 5 seconds it'll pull the motor over about a half inch so you can get the water pump out If you jack your motor up on the oil pan it will leak in a week or two

      That would make a very long, very boring video that no one would spend 12 hours watching.

    i have 2006 and pulled the pulley and pump out without dropping the engine. there are two videos on line that you can actually see it done. i should have ran camera when i extracted mine

      i pulled my own water pump out without dropping engine. it was a 2006 grand caravan. I watched over and over the hand movements a man did while pulling his
      water pump off a caravan about 10 years ago on youtube.

    Just makes you wonder how many of those cars are running around with 3 or 4 of the 5 bolts and a little extra RTV / Gasket Sealer.

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh God, Mark.... There's actually videos of people doing that. Yup - there's people on TH-cam breaking the bolt, trying to get it out, failing to get it out and using massive amounts of gasket maker to try to seal it.... And, at first it works.... but talk to them 3 months later.
      The problem is: you cannot get a drill in there and on a few of them you can't get a drill in back of them. Easy-outs are useless, getting a 4 foot drill bit or a drill bit extension is useless. Nightmare, panic-attack city.

    Yes you are correct. It is recommended to undo the top mount; but Patience and positioning if you angle the pump down and rotate the pump fins it will slide in and out. Took me an extra hour to figure that out. Probably would have saved time just dropping the motor two inch’s though The hose you disconnected didn’t need to be pulled though frankly. It runs to a housing the pump mounts into and you run the risk of the seal not resealing. All together great video though. Least I wasn’t the only one who knew to drop the motor and still tried to prove it wrong; can be done just Will take more time though.

      Why do you people who think you know everything watch "how to" videos?
      You really have no clue of what you're talking about and you're probably working on a Voyager or Caravan or something. This is a Town and Country that I'm working on.

    You could have put a socket on the crank pulley behind your hand and turned it and it would have turned your water pump pulley so you could have got to the bolts

    Is it absolutely necessary to remove the steel water tubing...or can you just remove the bot mounting it to the engine?

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people just loosen it up and manage to wiggle it out. I think it just depends on subtle difference from the factory-build.

    • @JohnDisque
      @JohnDisque  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could've been easier... when things go wrong it can have you truly wishing you never started it.
      The job is a little bit tough when things go right but the way this thing is built is flat-out stupid.
      If you need to do it just follow my instructions to a T and if the bolts are stuck on the water-pump I would stop, put it back together and take it to a shop.
      Peace

      Yeah --- I believe I took the top part of the motor mount all the way off because I didn't want to strip the top threads when the engine is jacked up.
