Where I live in Australia you need a license to keep these guys - not a very hard process at all, just fill out a form and pay a fee and then you can go buy one. I applied last week specifically to keep these beautiful little things, I just think they’re great👍
Hell yea, Nephrurus wheeleri! After watching your other WA adventure videos I got a pair of Nephrurus wheeleri as pets and they are awesome little geckos. I love these specific species videos and the information about them in the wild and keeping them in captivity. Keen to see what is next on the list. Thanks, Frank!

Hi mate, nice video and beautiful content as usual ! I was wondering something. When going out by night to spot geckos, does their eyes shine when your torche/headlight is in their direction? Like spiders and moths eyes do? And do you have any tips/advices to increase my chances of seeing somes during my night expeditions? Cheers
What is the difference between these two , I cant really find any information on them but I'd really like to get one but I'm leaning towards cinctus , i would appreciate it alot if you could provide any info :)
Yo, the difference between the two visually is the band count. Wheeleri have four bands and cinctus have five. Wheeleri are the southern species and cinctus are further up:) hope this helps!
@@reptiliandiaries Thanks! I also talked to another breeder and he too said 1,5 years for the females and about 1 year for males. And no less than 20 grams for females.
@@Mario-ku4qc This sounds about right to me. Females definitely need a bit more time than the males. They also get a bit bigger usually. My male is actually quite a bit smaller than my two females.
Most natural sand is fine for these geckos. You just want to make sure you are supplementing (dusting) the food with calcium and vitamins. This will keep them from eating the sand.

Yes they do shine back at you. It takes practice but this one very good way to find geckos:)
I thought that cinctus is a subspecies of wheeleri. Has it changed?
It has changed as I mentioned. I believe late last year.

Great Video! What do you think is a good weight for a female wheeleri to start breeding? And what about the males? 🤔
I honestly don't weigh my animals at all. I generally will breed wheeleri females at 18 months, and males at 12. Hope this helps!

does anyone know if different sands are ok for knobbies? Like is black sand safe?
